Frieren, Fern and Stark say goodbye to Himmel in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 episode 1. They leave the village. The three are on a carriage. Frieren expresses that it’s a hot day when she’s reading a book. Stark agrees with what she said. He reminds the two teammates that they’re running out of money. Fern takes a look at the coins in the bag. She decides to go to get a job. Stark is surprised that the girl thought far ahead. She tells him to prepare for the worse. She wishes she will get a nice job.

The three arrive at the destination. They get off the carriage. Fern thanks the driver for giving them a ride. But he says that he felt at ease when the top level mages accompanied him. He mentions they’re going to go to Ende. He cannot imagine it because he spent his entire life in his hometown. He believes that the journey will be long.
29 years later after the hero Himmel passed away. In the wetland, Stark tries to catch a fish by the lake. But his fishing line snaps. He brings a fish to Fern when she’s taking care of the mushroom. The fish is very small. But Fern still accepts the fish. She promises him that she will add it into the breakfast. He swears to catch a bigger fish next time. They notice that Frieren is looking for something in the thicket. Stark is surprised that the mage got up so early. Fern points out that Frieren did it because something caught Frieren’s attention. She has praised Frieren.
Frieren finds a big crystal. He gives it to Stark. He takes a look at the crystal. Fern fails to light the wood. She guesses she cannot use fire magic. Frieren reveals it’s Sealing Magic Ore. The ore can neutralize mage within three meters. She gets Stark to walk a little farther away. Fern can use mage now. She thinks the ore is rare. Frieren reveals the pebble-sized ore can be sold a few gold coins. Fern objects to take away the ore. Because she cannot use mage as long as they keep the ore. She thinks they will be in danger on the way. Frieren agrees with what Fern said. Fern asks Frieren to throw away the ore. She believes that they’re over if they’re attacked by magic beasts. But Frieren wants to show Fern the interesting feature of the ore first. She puts a vast amount of magic power into the ore. It emits a dazzling light. But the light makes Stark not see anything.
Frieren throws away the stone. She and her partners leave the lake. Fern notices that the ore still glows. Stark wonders if they’re going to arrive at the Northern Plateau. He’s told that they need to go through a large forest and a volcanic region. He thinks the volcanic region is very dangerous. Frieren denies it. She reveals the volcano hasn’t erupted for hundreds of years. It’s a safe hot spring location now. Fern is interested in the hot spring. She thinks it’s good that if she can take a hot bath.
The three fall into a hole because the foundation of the wetland isn’t stable. Frieren and Fern can fly. Fern carries Stark. The guy is fine. But they descend rapidly. They see the Sealing Mage Mine. Frieren finds out that the cave is full of Sealing Mage Ores. Stark believes that he will be rich if he takes it back. But he’s told that it’s impossible. The ore is one of the hardest substances. It cannot be cut and processed by magic.
Stark doesn’t believe Frieren’s words. But he cuts the ore with his axe. It’s intact. Frieren tells the guy that it’s not the stuff that human can handle. She thinks they cannot climb out of the place. She offers to go to look for other exits.
The three walk in the cave. Frieren reminds Stark that she and Fern will rely on him. They cannot use mage. So they’re just ordinary girls. She doesn’t forget that he called her old lady. He apologizes to her. They go camping. Frieren falls asleep on the ground. Stark and Fern sit in front of the bonfire. Fern mentions what Frieren said that the giant magic beast might treat the place as his lair. She takes a look at Frieren. She finds out that the girl sleeps soundly. She tells Stark that she’s scared. She encounters the case for the first time. She thinks she’s thrown into the darkness.
The monster attacks the three suddenly. Frieren wakes up. She recognizes the Venomous Dragon. She tells Stark that he might die because of poisoning. He wonders why she slept soundly. She points out that she entrusted her life to him. He reminds her that he’s the one who will flee at the critical moment. She offers to flee together. She puts her magic into the ore. She asks Stark and Fern to close their eyes.
It flashes back. Himmel and his team are in a dungeon. Eisen wonders why Himmel entrusted his life to him. He mentions he gave up the village and fled. Himmel offers to flee together. After all, they’re a team. Black Dragon appears. He breathes fire at Himmel. Eisen blocks the fire. He flees with his team. Heiter complains it to Himmel that he carries the heavier partner since he’s just a priest. Himmel is carrying Frieren to run. He explains it to Heiter that Frieren thought he reeks of alcohol.
At present, Stark carries Frieren and Fern to run out of the cave. Frieren thinks the feeling wasn’t terrible that they fled together. She tries to leave with Fern. But Stark claims that he cannot walk because his legs go weak.
In The Great Sanft Forest, Stark holds the ingredient to walk in the forest. He wonders if the ingredient is enough. He returns to the camp. He finds out that Frieren and Fern aren’t there. He guesses he came back too early. He goes fishing.
Frieren and Fern wash their feet by the stream. Fern cleans her silver bracelet. Frieren guesses the bracelet was given by Stark. Fern shows Frieren the hair accessory that Frieren gave her. She claims that she washed it as well. Frieren finds out that Fern was very happy when she cleared out belongings. Fern guesses she did it because the presents were given by someone else. She lost her hometown and everything in the war. Frieren reveals she put a lot of thought into selecting the present. Fern knows Frieren was torn for a long time. She turns around. She sees Stark. She thinks he’s a pervert.
Stark kowtows to Frieren and Fern at the camp. He apologizes to the two ladies. He explains it to them that he didn’t know they were taking a bath. But Fern isn’t in anger. She dries Frieren’s hair. The three leave the camp. Frieren notices that the atmosphere is tense. Stark is surprised that she can understand that sort of thing. He’s moved. She wonders if he cannot get along with Fern. He denies it. She asks him to let her know about it if he feels uncomfortable. After all, she dragged him into their team. They see a hotel.
The three get into the hotel. Wirbel recognizes Frieren. He thanks Stark for helping him raiding the Lion Pig. He reveals the demons rampaged at the northern frontier. He decides to go to the harbor in Empire with his teammates. Ehre reveals Wirbel complained that he gets seasick. Wirbel wonders if Stark thought about his proposal. He asks him to help him maintain the stabilization of the front line situation. Stark claims that he’s the vanguard of the team. But Wirbel won’t give up. He can do anything for guarding the northern frontier. He asks Frieren to help him persuade Stark. She agrees. Fern is sad after she heard Frieren’s words.
Frieren watches Stark drinks with Wirbel. She can tell that Stark is very happy. She realizes that Stark was repressed in her team. Fern joins Stark on the balcony. She wants to persuade him to accept Wirbel’s offer. But he rejects it. He asks her if she knows why he joined her team. He reveals he reached the limit when he encountered her and Frieren. He almost gave up everything in the village and left. Although Frieren claimed that she forced Stark to join the team, it’s not true. Fern grabbed Stark’s hand. She told him that she doesn’t think he’s the person who will flee. He joined the team after she encouraged him.
Stark thinks Fern didn’t notice it. He tells her that she helped him become a hero. He won’t go anywhere. He begs her to be gentle to him. She gets his point. She asks him to come to her so that she can stroke his head. But he’s scared to step back. He worries that she has a scheme. Fern is in her room. She takes off her bracelet. She remembers Stark carried her to flee. She smiles.
The next day, Frieren and Stark part ways with Wirbel outside the hotel. They won’t take a ship. Because the ship fare is too expensive. They choose the route of the Northern Plateau. Wirbel thinks it’s fine. He knows he will see Stark again.
