In the house, James tells Claire that the smuggler will come in Outlander Season 8 episode 1. He believes that the guy won’t miss the chance to sell thirty barrels of good whisky. She hopes the smuggler doesn’t get close enough to smell the herring. He promises her that he won’t allow it. Although he likes the sound of her voice, he asks her not to speak unless spoken to.

The smuggler comes. Claire pours him a drink. His eyes are on her. He thinks James has exquisite taste. James tells the guy that he won’t have trouble finding buyers in the north. Armies there will be thirsty. He will easily double his investment. The smuggler wonders who gave James his name. James says that Mrs. Abbott in Philadelphia. The smuggler asks James if he often takes business advice from whores. James mentions what Mrs. Abbott told him that the smuggle can be trusted. He reminds the guy that he needs money to pay his debts.
James tells the smuggler Vasquez that whisky wasn’t the only reason he wanted to meet him. He wishes to expand his business. He asks him to tell him where he found the girls. Vasquez reveals he found them at sea. His men and he were looking for a ship heavy with goods. But the captain Pocock was foolish enough to bring his family. A wife and two daughters. The captain agreed to hand over the goods after Vasquez threatened him with the knife. But he refused to hand over the girls. Vasquez had to kill the captain. One of the daughters was too young. She couldn’t earn money for Vasquez. Vasquez tried to sleep with the eldest daughter. But their mother stopped him. He had to throw her out of the ship.
Claire stabs Vasquez from his back after knowing what he did to her daughter. James kills Vasquez’s follower. He kicks him into the pool. He leaves with Claire.
Claire and James return home. She thinks she killed the guy too quickly. She says that her punishment isn’t enough. James comforts his wife that the devil will do the job for Jane, Frances and Faith. Claire is surprised that Faith was alive. She could have had a life with Faith. But the jerk robbed them of that chance. James mentions what Claire told him that she held their baby. She was stillborn, already lost to them. He wonders how their daughter married a captain. She doesn’t know it. She guesses Mother Hildegarde did something. She suspects Master Raymond then. She wonders why the guy asked her to forgive him. She believes that somebody lied. She doesn’t understand why those guys stole their child.
Claire cries in James’s arms after she realized that their daughter didn’t know they missed her very much. He comforts her that she lost her parents when she was a child. But they found each other. He tells her that he’s the true home of her heart. He guesses their daughter found her home. He thinks they should believe that their daughter was loved.
Savannah, Georgia 1779. Claire wakes up from the bed. She learns that his husband didn’t sleep. He was thinking about Faith and the things that they don’t know. He joins her on the bed. She wishes Fanny remembered more. He guesses the girl was five years old when she was sold to the brothel. She thinks they should press Fanny. Because she’s suffered more than any child should. He wonders if they should tell the girl that she’s their granddaughter. But she doesn’t know how to explain it to the girl. She worries that Fanny won’t believe them. They will break the trust.
James opens the door. He sees the kids. Marsali drives the kids away. She informs Claire that the breakfast is ready. Fergus asks his father to help him. James and Ian work in the workout. James finds out that his son is doing something rebelling. He tries to persuade his son. But it doesn’t work. So he asks Fergus to be careful.
James and Claire take Fanny to have breakfast with Marsali and Fergus. They leave Fergus’s place. The three are on the way to the Ridge. Fanny is excited after knowing the Ridge belongs to James. Claire tells Fanny that it’s her home.
The officer takes William to see John after William had a fight with the rebels. William claimed that he’s an earl. John testifies that what William said is true. The officer leaves. John introduces the baby he’s holding to William. The baby is Ben’s son.
In the field, James and Claire take Fanny to see the place Claire lives. Ian shows up. He’s happy to ran to his mother. He gives her a hug. Ian welcomes Fanny. Claire asks Ian about the baby. He reveals the baby isn’t born. He believes that his wife will be happy if she sees the people.
In John’s house, William tells John that there was a captain fighting the rebels. He believes that the captain was Richardson. The rebels refused to talk to him when he offered to play a game of brag. John asks William if he knows the whereabouts of the traitor.
William learns that Ben has a baby and a wife. He mistakes that the guy left with the army. But John brings a bad news to William that Ben is dead. He was caught when he went out with the raid party. He was held by rebels at Middlebrook encampment in New Jersey. An outbreak of jail fever.
John comforts William. He tells him that Henry doesn’t know it yet. He didn’t write any letter to his brother. Because he worried that the guy will be sad if he knows his son is dead. A young lady appeared on his doorstep with her baby after he knew Ben’s death. She claimed that she was Ben’s widow. The young lady had fallen into difficult circumstances because of her husband’s passing away. So he invited her to stay.
William learns that John had never heard of Ben’s wife until he received word of Ben’s death. He doesn’t believe it. He thinks Ben would have told him if he was married. He admits that he hasn’t received any letters from Ben for one year. But he thinks Henry would mention it. But Henry never did it. John reveals the young lady brought the lover letters that all sealed with Ben’s signet ring. He believes that what the lady said is true. But William thinks the lady faked the love letters for the money of the family. The lady Amaranthus shows up. She gets angry after she heard that William badmouthed her. She admits that Ben mentioned William. But the guy didn’t say that William is a drunkard and a fool.
Ian takes James and Claire home. The two are surprised that the guy built a house for them. Claire likes the house very much. Ian comforts her that he built a garden for her as well. She goes to see the garden. Rachel walks out of the house. She takes Claire to see her new house. Claire walks into her operating room. She thanks Ian and Rachel for preparing it for her. Ian confesses it to his aunt that he did it for his wife and the baby. Claire promises him that she will take very good care of the two. She gives Rachel a hug. James takes Fanny to her room. She likes the room very much. He plans to build an armoire for her and a chair that she can sit to read.
In the evening, James returns to the bedroom. He takes a look at Claire. He tells her that her shape reminds him that night when they had the child Faith. She thinks he shouldn’t have known when she had Faith. Because she doesn’t know. He kisses her forehead. He mentions she told him that she loved him at the night. He plans to give her a child.
The next day, James and Claire go to the trading post. They run into Amy. Amy is very happy after she saw the couple. Claire gives Amy a hug. James see Amy’s children Aidan and Orrie. Amy reveals her name is Lindsay now. She summons her husband Evan. James congratulates Evan on his new family. Evan expresses that he’s very happy. Claire thanks him for helping build the house. Crombie shows up. He welcomes James. James thinks Crombie’s shop is pretty good. Crombie gives the fabric to Amy. She thanks him very much.
Crombie takes James and Claire into his shop. Cunningham gives Claire some advice when she buys the item. Crombie introduces the guy as his partner. Cunningham has a talk with James and Claire. He decides to leave. James volunteers to accompany Cunningham.
Outside the shop, James asks Cunningham not to call him general. Because he resigned after the Battle of Monmouth. He has no further association with the Continental Army. Cunningham says that he has usually found out that any man who’s held a military post of any pretension clings to his title for life. He understands that there’re many fine officers who deserve to retain their titles after long and honorable service. James believes that Cunningham is the same. Cunningham agrees with what James said. He tells him that he’s retired. Although he prefers to retain the appellation of captain less as a measure of honor and more because he has never much liked the name Charles. He admits that he’s used to it after he fought for the king for thirty years. James stops after Cunningham told him that he fought for the king. But Cunningham laid down his sword for good after the battle of Bemis Heights. He heard that James was at Saratoga. James reminds Cunningham that they would have been an opposite sides of the same battlefield. Cunningham expresses that he hates war. James asks the guy how he came to settle on the Ridge. Cunningham says that he did it like many other people. He came to the place because he knew somebody there. He found a beautiful place. He decided to live there. Cunningham points at his house. He walks away.
James and Claire ride horses in the forest. Claire tells James that Cunningham is charming. The guy gained some influence when they weren’t there. He realizes that he should know the guy better. She thinks what he does is right. Because Cunningham is a redcoat. But he reveals the guy is retired like him. He believes him after he was told that he wouldn’t take part in the war.
In John’s house, John makes a raw egg drink for William. He tells him that he’s going to have dinner with General Prevost. He asks him to accompany him. He hints at him that the general’s cook is better than him. William is surprised that John is trying to tempt him to join the army. He mentions he went against it when he wanted to join the army. John tells William that he needs a job. He thinks he shouldn’t blame the army for what happened to Ms. Pocock. William takes the blame. Because he swore to protect the lady. He thinks the traitor Richardson should take the blame as well. John promises William that he will let the guy pay the price. But he doesn’t want him to drink anymore. He persuades him to return to England to manage the house. But William thinks his steward can do the job.
James and Claire return home. Lizzie gives a hive to James. She walks away with her baby. James suggests that Claire can talk with bees. Roger and Brianna come back when the two are having a kiss. Briana runs to Claire. She hugs her mother. Claire cries after she saw her daughter. Brianna introduces her child Mandy to Claire.
In the house, James suggests that Brianna and Roger should stay there. He plans to build a new house for them. Brianna notices that Fanny is sweet with Mandy. She wonders how Fanny lived with James and Claire. James reveals Fanny is an orphan. He tells Brianna that her father protected the girl, and he gave her to them. She realizes that William knows he’s his father. She guesses the guy isn’t happy with it. She suggests that James should give the guy some time.
In the evening, James asks Roger to meet Cunningham. Brianna gives Frank’s book “Soul of A Rebel” to her mother. James guesses something happened. Because Brianna and Roger are alive. Claire tells Brianna something about her sister Faith.
The next day, William visits Amaranthus. He apologizes to her. He explains it to her that he just learned of his cousin’s passing when she came. But he thinks he shouldn’t use it as an excuse. She tells him that she wasn’t friendly as well. She reveals she would be rude when she was provoked. But he thinks what she did is right. She invites him to sit with her. She reveals Ben told their marriage to his father with the letter. But the letter is missing. She expected that someone would suspect it. He notices that the baby is like Ben. She guesses he can tell the baby of his father when the baby Trevor is older. He promises her that he will protect her and the baby.
James and Brianna hunt in the forest. He learns that Robert read their letters. The guy not only knows the things of the Jacobite god, but he also knows where they live. He wonders if there’s a way to stop the guy from coming after her. She thinks they can do nothing if the guy can time-travel. But if he could, then why he hasn’t done it. They see the bodies hung in the trees. Brianna learns that those guys were killed for the king.

Mrs. Cunningham visits James. She slaps the kid because she thought he didn’t respect her. She gives a present to Claire. In the evening, James reads Frank’s book. He asks Claire why she didn’t tell him that Frank is like Black Jack. She tells him that the two are very different. She worried that he would be angry if he knew she married Black Jack. He claims that she belongs to him. She reveals Frank was an honest man. He could keep secrets. She believes that what the guy wrote is true. But the guy mentioned James in the book many times. He said that James would die.
