Pluribus Episode 8 Recap: Charm Offensive

The doctor saves Manousos in the operating room in Pluribus episode 8. He brings a good news to him that the infection is responding to antibiotics. But Manousos needs to stay in the operating room for a while. He pays attention to the scalpel.

Manousos kidnaps the doctor. He takes him out of the operating room. The doctor is polite to the patient even if his life is threatened. He persuades the patient that his body needs rest. Manousos is cold to tell the doctor that he wants to leave the hospital. But he wants to pay the money he owes. He’s furious to ask the doctor to take out the the bill. The doctor thinks Manousos doesn’t have to pay them. Because he doesn’t owe them. Manousos points out that he owes the real people who worked at the hospital ever. He knows the stitches and medicines have prices. The lady reveals the treatment fee is 8,277 Balboas. He realizes that he’s in Panama. She wonders if he needs an itemized receipt. He nods. He writes an IOU. Manousos walks out of the hospital. He gets into the ambulance he borrowed. He drives the ambulance away.

Carol is at home. She brings the drink to the girl. They drink together. She worries that the drink is too sweet. The girl expresses that the drink is perfect. Carol volunteers to add more water into the drink. But the girl rejects it. She notices the painting on the wall. Carol explains it to the girl that she wanted to return it. But the girl Zosia thinks Carol should keep it. Carol claims that she kept the painting because she worried that the animals will ruin the painting if she puts it into the museum. Zosia thinks what Carol did is right. She offers to send some people to guard the museum. Carol thinks it’s a good idea. She reveals she doesn’t want Mona Lisa to be eaten by a buffalo. Zosia laughs. She offers to play a board game. Carol agrees. But she doesn’t know which game they should play. Zosia reminds Carol the game she played with her cousin.

Carol plays the card game spit with Zosia. They’re very happy. Carol and Zosia are outside Carol’s house. Carol learns that everyone will be back soon. Zosia wants to stay in the house with Carol. But Carol rejects it. She wonders where Zosia lives.

Zosia takes Carol to the gym. Carol sees the people sleeping together on the floor. She wonders those guys do that. Zosia explains it to Carol that it saves on electricity and nature gas. She tells Carol their plan. A dog approaches Carol. Carol thinks the dog is one of Zosia. Zosia denies. She reveals the dog is a good boy. His name is Bear Jordan. Carol strokes the dog. She’s surprised that Zosia and her people raised pets. Zosia denies it. But they take care of the pets if the pets refuse to leave their former owners.

Carol spends the night with Zosia in the gym. Zosia takes Carol home. She volunteers to make breakfast for Carol. But Carol rejects it. She gets off Zosia’s car. She gets into her house. She writes down the words that those guys eat people.

Zosia takes Carol to the mountain top. They see a train. Carol is surprised that Zosia doesn’t know she likes train. Zosia reveals they need train to deliver food. Carol and Zosia go to get a massage. Zosia likes the feelings.

Carol sees the star Keple 22b in Zosia’s help at home. She learns that the aliens came to Earth because the creatures in the planet guided them.

The next day, Carol tries to write on the whiteboard. But her maker runs dry. So she calls Zosia. Zosia delivers the makers to Carol. She brings up that Carol wrote again. Carol admits that she was writing Wycaro. Zosia is very happy. Because she wants to read Carol’s new novel.

Carol plays croquet with Zosia. Carol is surprised that Zosia is a good croquet player. Zosia reveals they have the combined knowledge of every living croquet champion. She thinks it’s their advantage. Carol mentions hitting a ball needs muscle memory. She wonders if Zosia and her people shared it as well. Zosia isn’t sure about it. She thinks Carol sucks. She asks her about her writing.

Zosia takes Carol to a cafe. Carol is very happy after she came back to the cafe. Zosia wants Carol to share her story with her. Carol brings up that there was a waitress Bri who kept her coffee topped off. Bri shows up. Carol is surprised. She brings up the place burned down. She realizes that Zosia and her people rebuilt it. She walks out of the cafe suddenly. Zosia worries about Carol.

Carol drinks at home in the evening. Zosia visits Carol. She mentions Carol left suddenly. She wonders if she was fine. She admits it to her that they put a show because they know that she doesn’t give up. But it’s true they love Wycaro. Carol confesses it to Zosia that she likes her. But it’s a train wreck. She hopes the world is fixed even if she knows she will lose Zosia. Zosia kisses Carol.

The next day, Zosia wakes up in the bed. She finds out that Carol is writing in the room. She walks into the room. Carol hands over the papers to Zosia. She suggests that Zosia should read chapter 4. Carol waits for Zosia outside the room. Zosia shows up. She tells Carol that she likes what she wrote.

Zosia and Carol cook in the kitchen. Zosia reveals she likes mango ice cream. Manousos dresses his wound in the ambulance. He’s on the way to see Carol.

Pluribus promotes us to sympathize with Zosia. She’s an alien. She and other aliens ate people. But she’s nice to Carol. She always smiles at Carol. She appears just in time when Carol needs help. She shares what she knows with Carol even if she knows Carol is finding a way to deal with them. She remains silent until Carol finds the truth.

Zosia always owns collective consciousness when she talks with Carol. This is why she doesn’t like Zosia in the beginning. Zosia always says we instead of I. She changes her tone after she was effected by Carol. Carol hates the aliens. But she likes Zosia. This is why she kisses the girl at the end of episode 8. She tries to find a way to defeat the aliens. She writes down the knowledge Zosia shared. She’s a lone fighter. But she cannot change the world. She accepts Zosia in the end. But Manousos’s coming will break it.
