A bear passes by Mayor’s house in The Abandons episode 2. Mayor hears the sound. He walks out of his house. He’s killed by the beast. Van Ness, Trisha and Garret ride horses on the street. They see the body of Mayor. Trisha expresses regret. She wonders who is the guy. Garret realizes that Mayor was eaten by the bear. Sheriff guesses the bear went to the rivers at the summit for food. Van Ness thinks her boss Mr. Vanderbilt won’t want to see the scene.
Garret offers to form a hunting party to kill the beast. So the beast won’t affect their work. Van Ness thinks it’s a good idea. Fiona gathers the accomplices to her house after they buried Willem. She comforts them that they won’t be suspected. Miles doesn’t think so. Because they buried the lie. The two deputies show up. They reveal someone was eaten by the bear. They need good hunters to kill the bear. They want to hire Quentin and Walter. Quentin rejects it because he and his wife are going to meet the Cayuse. Oma reminds her husband that the deputies need him. She offers to let Lilla accompany her to meet her clansmen.
The hunters are gathered on the street. Garret gives the vouchers to Albert. He reveals the vouchers were prepared by her mother. He walks away. Elias is angry after knowing Garret became the hunter king. Albert shares the vouchers with Dahlia. Elias goes to take care of his horse. He sees Trisha outside her house. He joins her. She knows he’s going to go to hunt the bear. She persuades him to be careful. He agrees. He mentions her brother is a good leader. She realizes that her brother offended him. She asks him to forgive Garret. She holds his hand.
Van Ness gives a speech to the hunters. She asks Garret to make sure that he won’t be hurt. He promises it. He leads the hunters to leave the town. Fiona takes a look at Mayor’s body. She persuades Pastor to let Father Duffy give the guy final rites. Pastor agrees to do that. But he reveals Duffy is Monsignor. He walks away when Van Ness comes to Fiona. Van Ness wants to make up with Fiona. But Fiona rejects it. Because Van Ness killed her cow. Van Ness agrees to give the safety to Fiona as long as she becomes her friend. But Fiona knows she needs to pay her silver. She thinks it’s an extortion.
Father Duffy returns to the town. He greets Fiona and Dahlia. Fiona is happy to give her father a hug after he got promoted. But he doesn’t care for his new identity. He heard the death of Mayor. He guesses the hunters went to hunt the bear. Madame Giselle shows up behind Father Duffy. He persuades her to use her Latin skills at services tomorrow. But she rejects it because she needs to go to wash clothes with those girls.
Father Duffy walks Fiona and Dahlia. He asks the two about Willem. Fiona pretends not to know it. They get into the bar. Fiona invites Father Duffy to have dinner with her. He agrees. Because he came back for her food. She takes him to the second floor after he drank.
The hunters work in the forest. They found the tracks of the bear by the river. They plan to draw the bear to the fat pig. Elias gives an order. But Garret isn’t happy with it. Because he thinks he’s the leader. Elias asks Garret to stay at the camp. Because he promised Trisha to protect her brother. Garret doesn’t know it. He mistakes that Elias took away his leadership. He wants to punch the guy. Miles stops the young master. He asks Garret to join his team. But Garret rejects it. Because he wants to watch the orphans.
Oma and Lilla arrive at Cayuse. They witness the guy wanting to join Cayuse rebels. But he doesn’t make it because of the treaty. Oma isn’t controlled by the treaty because she left the clan. Roache visits Van Ness. He goes to the second floor. He finds out that Trisha is playing piano in the room. He joins her. Because he’s good at playing piano as well.
Van Ness is on the way home with Jack. He mentions Roache and his men committed numerous crimes. But she needs those guys to cross the lines for her. She returns home. She finds out that Roache is playing piano with her daughter. She asks Trisha to go to pack up Mayor’s trinkets. Trisha leaves the room. Roache reports to Van Ness that he didn’t find her son after he searched everywhere.
Garret, Albert and Elias walk in the forest. Garret asks Elias to put the bloodier bait. But Elias throws the bait at Garret. He thinks it’s bloody enough. Garret wants to have a fight with Elias. Albert stops Garret. Father Duffy visits Fiona when she’s cooking. He has dinner with her and Dahlia. He brings up that she was kicked out of the schools. She throws the rag at his face when he laughs.
The hunters set the fat pig at the river. The bear shows up. Walter is startled when the beast is close to him. Miles shoots the bear decisively. Father Duffy looks at the purchase of the land. Dahlia reveals her father Angus did it before he passed away. He mentions Angus entrusted Dahlia to the fierce Irish nanny. Dahlia reveals the nanny didn’t leave her father after she helped him recover.
Trisha organizes Schubert’s sheet music at home. Van Ness tells her daughter that the man who played piano with her looked for Willem. Trisha guesses her brother is dead. Van Ness mentions Trisha’s father liked Schubert as well. She misses her husband. Fiona plays chess with Father Duffy. She wins. He tries to give the money to her. But she refuses to accept the money. Because he’s her lighthouse. She gives him a hug.
The next day, Father Duffy gives Mayor a final rite at the funeral. Fiona and Dahlia watch the funeral. Dahlia wonders what Fiona is going to say to God. Fiona thinks God will forgive her once she confesses. Dahlia worries that their revenge was wrong. Fiona persuades Dahlia that God stopped the jerk. Dahlia cries. She points out that she and Fiona killed Willem. Fiona is clam to teach Dahlia how to confess. She claims that she did it for protecting a good girl. She asks Dahlia to leave the problem to God. Dahlia wipes off her tears.
Fiona walks into the church. She runs into Van Ness. Van Ness mentions she’s painful after she lost her son. She thinks the only one who can resolve the problem is God. Fiona promises to pray for Willem. Van Ness leaves the church. Dahlia walks into the church when Fiona just leaves the confessional. She gets into the confessional. She confesses it to Father Duffy.

Mr. Vanderbilt visits Van Ness in the evening. He threatens to withdraw the shares if she doesn’t do a good job. Fiona is at the bar. Issac hands over the letter Father Duffy dropped to Fiona. Father Duffy has left the town. Issac wishes Fiona returns the letter to Father Duffy. But she reads it. She goes to chase Father Duffy with her people.
Fiona stops Father Duffy before he visits Van Ness. She learns that he betrayed her for the money of Van Ness. She slaps him. He knows what he does isn’t right. He asks Elias to kill him. Fiona stops the kid before he shoots. She hits Father Duffy. She thinks he’s a coward. He mounts his horse. He rides away on horseback. Albert thinks they’re over.
