Father Duffy visits Van Ness in the morning in The Abandons episode 3. He’s on horseback. But he looks terrible. Van Ness’s servant picks up the priest. He informs the madam about the priest’s visit. The doctor checks Father Duffy’s body on a cart. He guesses the guy died from a fall. Because there’re leather buns on the neck. Sheriff wonders if someone witnessed Father Duffy’s fall. Van Ness doesn’t know the answer. She reveals Father Duffy visited her because his bishop asked him to do that.

The soldiers come back after they were attacked by Cayuse. They need a doctor. Van Ness takes Garret and Trisha to go to watch the wounded soldiers. She asks Garret to go to look for the commander of the soldiers. He walks away. Trisha is scared after she witnessed the scene. She holds her mother’s hand. She wishes her mother to protect her. But Van Ness asks Trisha to get Jack and Roache to her office. She leaves when her daughter needs her.
Fiona is on the street. She asks Elias to go to summon Issac. Because they need to set up a tent. She hopes Giselle and her girls help them. Elias needs to take those guys to the chicken yard. Fiona will wait for them there. Roache meets Van Ness in her office. He reveals the one who attacked the cavalry was Red Bird. Those guys refuse to conclude a treaty. He believes that Red Bird needs resources if they keep the pace. Van Ness realizes that the resources are war stock. She plans to make a deal with Red Bird. Roache persuades the madam not to do that. Because those guys are savages. But she needs the savages. Van Ness asks Roache to visit Cayuse with Jack. But he doesn’t trust her. He asks her to arrange a person of Van Ness family for him. She agrees. She asks him to come to her house tomorrow. He leaves her office.
Fiona treats the wounded soldier in the tent. He thinks her treatment method is soft. He calls her an angle. Trisha plays piano in the room. Van Ness brings up that her sister was favored by her husband because of her musical talent. Trisha knows her mother wants to use her musical talent to get a rich son-in-law. She claims that she’s not a puppet. Van Ness points out that Trisha’s talent is nothing if she cannot get a good husband.
Miles brings the medicine to Fiona. He asks her to pour the medicine in the wounds to cure the soldiers. He wants her to persuade his daughter not to be a doctor. He thinks it’s not a good job. His daughter overhears it. She claims that she won’t give up her dream. She walks away. Miles guesses his daughter defied him because of Fiona.
The commander visits Van Ness. He learns that the company is managed by her. He persuades her to let her son manage the company. Because he thinks it’s a man’s job. But she claims that she and her husband were partners in business. He reveals Cayuse won’t talk if they don’t resolve the internal conflict. She volunteers to help him.
Garret sends the commander off outside his house. Jack tells the young master that he and his mother are going to the badlands for the new investment. Garret wonders why his mother wants to do that. Jack doesn’t know the reason. He looks up. He sees Van Ness staring at him from the second floor. He tells Garret that he just let him know what happened.
Elias cuts off the wounded soldier’s arm in the tent. He goes to the church with Fiona. He brings up Father Duffy’s death. She claims that she will take the duty. He tries to leave the church. But Trisha gets into the church. Fiona leaves the church for letting the two kids stay alone. Trisha sits with Elias. She brings up that she and her family aren’t close anymore. He agrees with what she said. He reveals he wanted to go on an adventure. He holds her hand. He’s surprised that her hand is so firm. But he doesn’t know how to express it. She laughs. She knows what he means is that she’s a capable woman. Albert shows up. He informs Elias that it’s time to go home.
Fiona takes care of the wounded soldier in the tent. She cries because she doesn’t know if what she did is wrong. She lost the guidelines from God after Father Duffy was dead. Garret walks into his mother’s room when Van Ness takes out an iron box. He’s surprised that she’s going to take the silver to the Badlands. She realizes that Jack betrayed her. He explains it to her that the man confessed after he forced him. He worries about the Badlands. Because he doesn’t know her plan. She claims that they need to overstep territorial law for protecting the town. She reminds him that he’s her legacy. He asks her about Willem. He wonders if his brother knew his throne was taken away early. She claims that they love Willem. But Willem chose a different path. Garret mistakes that his mother gives up Willem. Because Roache received an new order. Van Ness denies it.
Trisha is bullied by the officer at the bar. Elias fights the officer outside the bar. Garret joins the fight. But he and Elias aren’t the officer’s rival. Van Ness gives Roache an order. The guy takes down the officer with one hit. He thinks Elias and Garret were brave. But they weren’t strong enough. Van Ness takes Garret and Trisha home after Trisha brought trouble.
The next day, the wounded soldier Grady wakes up in the tent. Fiona wants to do something for the man. He wishes he can lie in the grave where he can watch stars. Elias tails Roache to Van Ness’s house. He hides behind a cabin. He tries to watch Roache and Van Ness. But he’s caught by Trisha. She mistakes that he came to show her the bruises she caused. He denies it. He asks her about the guy who’s talking with her mother. She reveals Roache is the scout her mother hired for looking for Willem. She wonders why he’s interested in the scout. He tells her that the scout is a bandit. She laughs. Because she doesn’t believe that her mother would collude with a bandit. She learns that he’s going to follow her mother and Roache. She decides to accompany him for proving what he said is wrong.
Roache arrives at the destination with Van Ness. He asks the bandits to make sure that nobody follows them. The bandits spot Elias and Trisha. They ride horses to chase them. Trisha jumps over the narrow with Elias. But her horse is dead. They ride the same horse. They flee. The bandits laugh after the couple disappeared.
Trisha and Elias are safe. Trisha decides to go to have a talk with her mother. Because she knows she and Elias were hurt by Roache’s followers. Elias persuades Trisha not to do that. He mentions they don’t know the details. She agrees with it. She praises him for taking care of her. Because nobody did it for her before. She’s moved. She confesses her feelings to him. But he reminds her that their families are enemies. He’s not confident to overcome the difficulties. But he asks her to visit him when she needs his help.

Fiona goes out with Elias and Albert. She learns that Van Ness hired a bandit army. Elias reveals the bandits are looking for Willem. Albert worries that the bandits will find Willem soon. Fiona gets into the tent. She finds out that Grady is dead. Van Ness meets Red Bird at her place. She gives the silver to her. But Red Bird wants to get weapons. Van Ness promises to go to prepare the weapons. Fiona meets Grady’s supervisor in the tent. She claims that Grady asked her to deal with his body. The supervisor agrees to give the body to Fiona. Miles volunteers to go to prepare the grave. But Fiona goes against it. Because Grady said that he doesn’t need a grave.
Van Ness returns home. She finds out that the maid didn’t prepare knife and fork for Willem. She scolds her. The maid goes to prepare it. Van Ness, Trisha and Garret have dinner together. Fiona and her family leave Grady’s body out in the wild. Her children think it’s not a good idea. But she points out that they can only resolve the problem with the method. Miles shows up after he tailed Fiona. He knows everyone will think the body is Willem. But he doesn’t stop Fiona. Because he has to face Van Ness’s fury if Willem’s body is discovered. He leaves with Fiona and her family. The wild wolves eat Grady’s body in the end.
