Fiona prays in her room in the morning in The Abandons episode 4. Her prayer is interrupted by the quarrel of the kids upstairs. She’s furious to run downstairs to find out what happened. Elias and Albert plan to confess it to the people in the town that they buried a sheep in wolf’s clothes. Dahlia goes against it. Because they did it on their own. Fiona thinks the kids shouldn’t care for it. But Elias claims that they’re not children. He wonders if the angels asked his mother to tell the truth. He tells Fiona that she’s a troublemaker.

Roache visits Van Ness. He reports it to her that he didn’t find her son. But he found the guns she needs. He reveals her friend Arkasha is dealing in arms. Van Ness thinks their situations are out of control. Elias and Albert work for the boss. Albert notices the pretty girl. The boss reveals the girl is his wife’s niece.
Elias goes to see Trisha. She’s surprised that he visited her. He brings up Roache. She complains it to him that her mother trusts a criminal more than her children. He feels the same way. Because his mother trusts her rosary more. He wants to run away because of her protective nature. Trisha reveals she doesn’t want just be a daughter. Elias grabs the lady’s hand. He tells her that he sees so much more from her. She smiles. Albert whistles. Elias offers to meet Trisha at a place without Albert’s whistle. Trisha thinks it’s a good idea. She asks him to meet her in the field dear the delta trail. He kisses her hand. He leaves.
Lilla steals the item from the horse. She tries to leave. But the guy stops her. He calls her a thief. She claims that the item belongs to Lakota. He knows what it is. Because he killed three Sioux to get it. He punches her. Fiona and Dahlia beat the guy and the guy’s accomplices for protecting Lilla. Van Ness and Trisha watch it from their company. The guy tries to shoot Fiona. But Sheriff stops him.
Jack takes the priest to see Van Ness. The priest asks the madam to help him. He takes her to the school. He opens the door of the classroom. He claims that he wants to teach the kids. But he has a job in the church. Fiona finds Lilla at the lake. The girl is having fun with the rope. Fiona mentions Lilla ran away. Lilla cries to tell her mother that she betrayed her clansmen if she didn’t steal the item. She realized that she shouldn’t betray her family after she saw Fiona and her siblings. Fiona gives her daughter a hug for comforting her. She knows she did it because she had no choice. Lilla realizes that her mother loves her. She thinks she shouldn’t let her mother down. Fiona wipes off her daughter’s tears.
Albert helps the girl Lucinda when she’s working. She shakes hands with him. She learns that he’s a free man. The priest and Van Ness walk out of the school. The priest reveals he’s looking for a teacher. But the good teachers aren’t in the town. Van Ness sees Albert and Lucinda. She has an idea.
Lucinda helps Albert carry the goods into the cart. Van Ness shows up. She has a talk with Albert. She knows the guy received an education from his father. She decides to prepare decent clothes for him. She walks away. He doesn’t know he’s going to be a teacher. He doesn’t have to do manual labor.
Dahlia and Lilla visit Walter with a dog. The dog approaches the man immediately after Dahlia released him. Walter thinks the dog will be a troublemaker. But Dahlia points out that the dog likes Walter. Walter doesn’t want to raise another animal. Lilla offers to kill the dog. She mentions they need to send the dog away. She wants to do like wolves. Dahlia tries to take the dog away. Walter worries that the dog will die if she sets the dog loose. He keeps the dog after she asked him to take care of the dog before the dog finds a new owner. He realizes that she and Lilla worked together to trick him. He blames them. The dog licks Walter’s face. The two ladies take the carriage to leave. Walter promises the dog that he will give him a name as long as he’s obedient.
Van Ness takes Albert to the school. She introduces him as a teacher to the kids. The priest isn’t happy with it. Because he doesn’t like Albert. He visits Fiona. He’s angry to mention that her son became a teacher because of Van Ness’s order.
Fiona breaks into the classroom when Albert is getting alone well with his students. She leaves the classroom soon. He goes to chase her. But he knows his students need him. He returns to the classroom. Fiona visits Van Ness at her company. She mentions she gave a job to her son. She questions her motives. Van Ness claims that the school is funded by the synod. She didn’t hire Albert. Fiona points out that Van Ness controls the whole town. Van Ness admits it to Fiona that she controls the town. But she does it for making it better. She thinks her son is going to help her.
Fiona is furious to blame Van Ness for using her son to manipulate her. She worries that her son will betray her once he wears the exquisite clothing. She mentions Van Ness got her father to betray her. Van Ness questions Fiona how she achieved it. Fiona cannot give the answer to Van Ness. Because she killed Father Duffy after the guy betrayed her. She blames Van Ness for using Albert’s kindness to threaten her. But Van Ness points out that the case isn’t related to Fiona. Because she didn’t give a job to her. She wonders if she doesn’t want her son to get a good job. She mentions a mother’s protective instinct is powerful. But it would cloud their judgment. Fiona thinks Van Ness’s judgement was clouded. She wonders if the madam is sad after her son went missing. Van Ness claims that her mind is clear about Willem and Albert. She explains it to Fiona that she let her son be a teacher. Because she thought it’s a right thing. She reveals Albert’s suit and shoes will be deducted from his earnings. She reminds Fiona that their fight is about property. She thinks they shouldn’t get their children involved. She persuades her not to control their children.
The man takes his child to show up when Albert is working in the classroom. Albert notices that the man is holding a leather whip. He asks the kid to stay outside. The boy tries to leave the classroom after he received the order from the teacher. But his father keeps him because he thinks he should witness it. Fiona agrees with what the man said. He threatens Albert that he won’t forgive him. He leaves the classroom. Fiona apologizes to Albert for what she did. She reveals she had a talk with Van Ness. He promises his mother that he will resign if the madam destroys their relationship. But she supports him to be a teacher. She gives him a hug.

Van Ness meets Arkasha at the bazaar in the evening. He refuses to sell the guns to her. Because someone ordered the guns. She threatens to destroy the bazaar. He changes his mind. Because he worries that he will lose his home. She lets Roache take care of the guns. Trisha walks into Garret’s room. She misses Willem with Garret.
The next day, Albert works in his office at Van Ness’s company. Lucinda visits him. They talk about the book he’s reading. They’re in a good mood. Samara passes by Albert’s office. She sees him with another girl. She’s jealous. Fiona drinks with Elias at the bar. She notices that her son fell for the daughter of her enemy. He runs out of the bar. He joins Trisha. They walk in the forest. Trisha tells Elias that he made her feel very comfortable. She kisses him. They see the Marshals visiting Van Ness with a body. Van Ness walks out of the company. The Marsha hands over the ring to her. He reveals he found it from the body. She asks him to show her the body even if he claims that the body is a gruesome sight. She checks the body. She doesn’t give him an answer when he wonders if the body is her son.
