The Abandons Episode 5 Recap: The Joaquins

Van Ness, Trisha and Garret sit in the church in The Abandons episode 5. The priest plays piano for them. Van Ness asks Garret to give an eulogy. The priest walks Van Ness out of the church. He wonders if he needs to bury Willem next to his father. She rejects it. Because she plans to send her son’s remains to New York. He will be buried with his grandma. She wishes everyone in the town comes to her son’s memorial. She decides to walk out of the tragedy.

The Abandons Episode 5

Van Ness mounts the horse. She’s going to leave. Trisha wonders why her brother needs to be buried with the grandma he didn’t see. Garret guesses his grandma is lonely. Trisha is furious to persuade Garret to suspect their mother. Because Van Ness was mean to Willem. But he refuses to peer into his mother’s secrets. It promotes her to think that he’s like Van Ness. He talks back that he’s like the dirty orphan. What he means is Elias. The man she loves. Garret reminds his sister that everyone will be hurt if she continues to be with Elias.

Trisha walks Elias in the mountains. She mentions Willem loved wolves. He wasn’t good at talking with people. But he got along well with animals. Elias can tell. Because Trisha’s brother hurt his sister like a beast. Trisha cries after knowing her brother is dead. Elias takes out a handkerchief from his pocket. He tries to hand it over to her. But she doesn’t accept his handkerchief. She reveals it was her first time to cry for her brother. She thinks she did it because he accompanies her. He confesses it to her that he missed her. She rides away on horseback.

Garret practices his eulogy for Willem in the office. Samara approaches his office after she heard his speech. She knows he missed his his brother. But she thinks he doesn’t have to let others know his longing. Elias finds Fiona at Willem’s grave in the forest. He thinks she’s reminding herself that she shouldn’t forget the truth. She admits. She wonders if Trisha was sad after the lady lost her brother. He confesses it to her that he developed genuine feelings for Trisha. He worries that everyone will be in danger because of his love. He thinks he shouldn’t have told it to her because she has burden enough.

Fiona takes her family to the church to attend the memorial service. She comforts Van Ness after the madam lost her son. Miles walks out of his house. He sees some horsemen. He asks his daughter to go to the horse. Because they need to leave. He takes her to the shop. He takes out some guns. He tells her that those guys are very dangerous. The horsemen enter the bar. They kill the bar owner after the bar owner refused to give wine to them. They ask the waitress to prepare the wine before they leave the bar.

Samara asks her father to explain the guns to her after she saw the guns. But Miles asks her to go to the storage room when he hands over a gun to her. He comforts her that he will protect her. The people are mourning Willem in the church. The horsemen break into the church. The chief of the horsemen Joaquin introduces themselves as Joaquins to the people. He reveals they came to look for their friend Arkasha. Arkasha tries to flee. But the priest betrays Arkasha. Arkasha is caught by the Joaquin. He’s asked about their guns. He tries to confess. But Jack shoots Arkasha after he received an order from Van Ness. The Joaquins shoot Jack. Jack’s arm is hurt. A gunfight erupts inside the church. Miles kills some Joaquins outside the church.

Fiona takes her family to run away from the church. Elias helps Van Ness and her family evacuate for Trisha. The Joaquin recognizes Miles outside the church. Miles mercilessly kills his friend. He gives his daughter a hug when she’s scared after she witnessed the gunfight. Fiona gives Elias a hug in the church. Van Ness returns to the church. She sees the kid who was murdered by the Joaquins. Her face is with the kid’s blood. She has an eye contact with Fiona.

The next day, Samara prepares breakfast for her father at home. She refuses to have breakfast with Miles because she has many questions. He confesses it to her that he worked for powerful men before he married her mother. The Mexicans didn’t like Old Hickory. So they gathered some bad men. Miles’s job was to stop the bad men. Samara learns that the guns are the tools of his father. He reveals her mother knew how he was changed.

The bodies are carried out of the church. Lilla applies the fat on the bodies so that it won’t rot. Marshals are on the way to the town. They will arrest the Joaquins. Albert wonders where Arkasha hid the guns. They don’t know about it because the guy was killed by Jack.

Roache hides the guns into an armory. He thinks the place is pretty good. He walks Jack. He mentions he risked himself to protect the madam. Jack claims that he just kept a promise. He agrees when Van Ness wants him to ride the horse.

Van Ness takes her family and Jack to visit Fiona. She wants to talk with the lady about their children. Fiona asks Dahlia to go to prepare the tea for the guests. Dahlia is reluctant. Fiona meets Van Ness in the barn. Van Ness asks Fiona to go to persuade other families letting her own forty-five percent of the land. She reveals she wanted to take all the land. But she made a compromise for her deceased husband.

Trisha finds a note from Elias’s box in his room. Dahlia thinks the lady is spying on her brother. Trisha admits it to Dahlia that she did it. Dahlia asks Trisha that if she loves her brother. Trisha laughs. She claims that it’s a personal matter. Dahlia brings up that love isn’t related to her. It promotes Trisha to wonder if Elias confessed it to Dahlia. Dahlia thinks she wouldn’t know about it even if her brother leaked it. Because Elias always cannot express what he wants to say well. But his love is passionate. Lilla informs the two ladies that their mothers ended the talk.

Van Ness and her family leave Fiona’s house. Lilla is surprised that the two mothers didn’t have a fight. Dahlia wonders what happened. Fiona doesn’t leak it. She asks her two daughters to go to summon everyone. Fiona has a meeting with the other three families in the barn. She plans to sell the land to Van Ness. But she needs to get their agreeing. So she decides to have a vote with them.

Van Ness returns to her company with her children. She prepares the contracts for the people. But Trisha worries that Fiona cannot convince the other three families. Van Ness believes that those guys will make the right decision because she has informed them about the severity. Sheriff visits Van Ness. He knows those Joaquins attacked them because she bought guns from Arkasha. There would be more innocent people being killed if Miles didn’t protect them. He threatens to resign if the same thing happens again.

Garret sneaks into Miles’s shop. He finds the guns Miles hid. He helps Samara when she returns to the shop. He mentions she was kind after the tragedy happened. She’s very happy after she was told that he wants to know her more. But her father comes up. Miles reminds Samara that it’s time to go back to Hollow. Garret praises Miles for his shooting skills. He leaves his shop.

Garret asks the cop to go to look into Miles in the evening. He returns to his company. He finds out that his sister doesn’t go home. She explains it to him that she wants to practice the sheet music. He leaves. Elias visits Trisha. She learns that the people in the Hollow agreed to sell the land to her mother. She gives him a hug after she heard the good news. She kisses him. She takes him to her room on the second floor. He takes off her clothes. He sleeps with her.

Garret returns to Trisha’s room. But the door is closed. He discovers that his enemy is sleeping with his sister. He’s angry to break into Giselle’s room. He insists on sleeping with her even if she thinks he should choose a young girl. She agrees. But she asks him to keep the secret.

Trisha and Elias complete their job. Trisha doesn’t know her brother is sleeping with another woman because of her. Elias watches the girl play piano. They confess their feelings to each other. Fiona visits Van Ness. Van Ness confesses it to Fiona that she killed her cow. She thinks it’s time to trust each other since they’re going to work together. She asks Fiona about the whereabouts of her son. She knows the body wasn’t her son. She promises not to take revenge on Fiona even if Fiona did something bad. But Fiona tells a lie to Van Ness that she doesn’t know it.
