100 Days of Deception Episode 4

The man tells Ga-Kyung that it’s the place where Koreans die. Korea has been ruled by Japan for twenty years. Koreans refuse to accept reality, and they’re just messing around all day. It’s the police station. He mentions she’s the thief who comes from Shantytowns. The train station is the area she usually hangs out in. She denies it. She claims that she’s the Interpreter from Government General of Korea. He slaps her so hard, and she falls to the floor.

He asks her who sent her to be a spy? She says she doesn’t know. She shakes her head. He kicks her. Song Jeon stops the man Se-Hwan. He learns that Ga-Kyung won’t confess. He knows her boss is Yoo Philip or his wife. He takes out his gun. He points the gun at her head. He thinks a lowly thief like her wouldn’t be a spy for independent business. He asks her to speak out what benefits they promised her.

As long as she tells him the mastermind, he will not only forgive her, he can also give her the stuff that they promised her. Does she think she takes the secret into grave and Korea will gain independence? She says twenty million Koreans are behind her. He pulls the trigger. But there’s no bullets in his gun. She asks him who’s behind him? So-Ran and Yoo Philip are having breakfast at home. The phone rings.

So-Ran and Yoo Philip get in the room. Ga-Kyung knew it was So-Ran. So-Ran yells at her people. She asks them what were they doing? They shouldn’t have done something like this behind her back. Yoo Philip apologizes to Ga-Kyung. He says he planned the whole case. She asks him didn’t he trust her when he let her be a spy? He thought he pointed a gun at her. She would cry and confess all? They should have acted a little better since they wanted to act. Did they think they could trick her the second time after they tricked her one time?

She tells them that she knows the police station. In the neighborhood where she lives, a lot of people were beaten at the police station. They ended up disabled. At the police station, if she was knocked unconscious, they would hang her and pour chili water up her nose, and wake her up. They would pull out her fingernails and toenails. Using red-hot metal chopsticks to burn her body.

But the place is way too basic. And when someone flew into a rage, she would take things at her hand to beat. But Se-Hwan didn’t use the stick. She guesses he couldn’t bring himself to do it. And the sound of the tram. When she was in the car, she heard that a tram passed by. But from the place where he caught her, they wouldn’t pass by a tram on the way to the police station. If it’s the police station, why did they blindfold her? They worked so hard, and she almost felt sorry for them.

She says goodbye to them. She has no season to trust them since they don’t trust her. She refuses to be a spy for them. She asks them not to think it’s unfair. The advance payment is the compensation that she was beaten. She tells So-Ran that it’s not her business that Korea gains independence or not. She doesn’t want to get involved. She said Korea gained independence to end the big show of them.

She tries to open the door. But Yoo Philip points a gun at her. He threatens her that he will shoot her if she dares to open the door. So-Ran guards Ga-Kyung. She asks Yoo Philip to drop his gun. She grabs a gun from the table. She points the gun at him. He has to drop his gun. So-Ran tells Ga-Kyung that her daughter Seo-Hee was killed by Shinichi Sato. She asks her to help them. She needs her.

So-Ran and Yoo Philip return home. She asks him not to conceal anything about Ga-Kyung from her. He asks her did she really want to shoot him? Or it was just an acting to win Ga-Kyung’s trust. She mentioned Seo-Hee to Ga-Kyung. Was it part of her plan? She tells him that he doesn’t have to worry about Ga-Kyung. Ga-Kyung wants to go to the United States. So she won’t betray them. They must make sure Ga-Kyung won’t know that she cannot go to the United States.

At Japanese Government General, Gwan-Sil tries to warm Tae-Woong’s bed. Tae-Woong persuades her not to do that. Because winter is coming to an end. But she says it’s winter in Gyeongseong. It’s much colder than Tokyo. She notices that he’s sick. She wants to take him to see a doctor. He stops her. He says he’s fine. She tells him that he should go to hospital immediately if it happens again.

Hanako Sato informs Tae-Woong that she finished writing. He takes a look at her writing. He praises her. But he asks her to write it ten times. She asks him to teach her Korean. She reveals her mother is a Korean. She asks him to promise her that he won’t tell it to her father. Tae-Woong asks Gwan-Sil does she know his mother’s name in Korean? She doesn’t know it. He has looked for his mother after he came back to Gyeongseong.

He found something when he packed his stuff in Tokyo. He thinks it will help him find his mother. But he asks her not to let his father know it.

In Shinichi Sato’s office, Shinichi Sato scolds Fukuda for not catching the fugitive. Fukuda says though the fugitive is on the run, they raided some rebel strongholds and caught a lot of people. They’re trying to get intelligence from the prisoners’ mouths. But those guys have hard bones. They’re good at not speaking.

Sato thinks it’s not that they have hard bones. Fukuda is too weak. He has lived in Korea for twenty years. He doesn’t understand Koreans’ personality. They still continue the stupid Independence Movement even if they witnessed the bloodbath. They refuse to give up. Because there’s on thing in their heart. It cannot be destroyed by guns and torture. It’s a foolish hope. They always think they can be independent one day. Bullets can kill one person, but hope can be passed on to the next generation.

This is why Sato and Fukuda need to crush it. They have educated them for twenty years. But they’re still a group of uncivilized barbarians. They should know their place and submit to their civilized rule. But the young masters who have lived a life of luxury in Tokyo sit serenely on the high dais. They talk about Korea’s development and peace. Even if they have never set foot on this land.

Sato was born in Korea. He grew up in Korea. Nobody knows Koreans better than he does. Korea’s future will be shaped by him.

The next day, Ga-Kyung goes out. She doesn’t want to walk Yoo Philip. He tells her that she won’t be fine if she lets So-Ran in danger. She learns that he warned her not for his group, but for So-Ran. She takes out his wallet. She tells him that she won’t return it to him next time.

At Government General, Ga-Kyung cleans Tae-Woong’s office. He remembers Tae-Woong is a Korean orphan. This is why he thought her stealing skills were very good. He tells her that her job doesn’t include cleaning. She says she’s bored out of her mind because he didn’t give her something to do. He doesn’t dare to boss her around. It’s her freedom if she wants to clean. She should let the guy know that he didn’t force her to do that. He asks her when will she return the ticket to him?

She says the case is resolved. She doesn’t understand why he mentions it. She points out that he doesn’t need the ticket before he finds the pawnshop. As long as he finds the pawnshop, she will return the ticket to him. He asks her to deliver the English dictionary to the location. But he disallows her to take elevator. She complains it to him that a little Interpreter shouldn’t use the elevator that Upper Management uses. But he’s Sato’s son. Cannot even he take the elevator?

He mentions he didn’t say he couldn’t use the elevator. She checks the note he wrote. She tells him that she doesn’t understand Chinese characters. So he explains it to her. He notes that her leg was hurt when she’s leaving. She comforts him that she won’t use the elevator.

Ga-Kyung walks out of the Editorial Department after she delivered the dictionary. She tries to take the stairs. But her foot hurts a lot. She has to sit on the stairs. Tae-Woong shows up. She asks him why did he come? She figures he wanted to make sure that she didn’t take elevator. He walks to her. He asks her to take his arm. She rejects it. So he walks away. She’s anxious to beg him to help her. But he wishes she would say please.

She gets angry. She tries to take the stairs. But she begs him again. She wants to take elevator with him. He walks to her. He offers to talk about it after they go down the stairs. He reaches his arm to her. She takes his arm. They reach the elevator. She wants to take the elevator. But he tells her that she cannot take elevator. Because she’s a Korean. She lets go of his hand. He asks her to go to the first floor with him. He needs to go out for a business.

Tae-Woong takes Ga-Kyung to a hospital. She doesn’t sit down or lie down. He figures she’s worrying about the medical expenses. She probably ran out of the money in his wallet. She says she does it not because of the reason. She wasn’t sick, and she didn’t go to hospital.

The doctor Woon-Hak shows up. Ga-Kyung remembers he was with So-Ran. Tae-Woong tells Woon-Hak that Ga-Kyung’s right ankle is very swollen. Ga-Kyung says she sprained her ankle. Woon-Hak gives her a treatment. She thinks he should ask her where she was hurt. She says she’s covered in bruises. They were the ones who beat her.

Tae-Woong asks Woon-Hak to prescribe Ga-Kyung some ointment. Ga-Kyung claims she has ointment at home. Woon-Hak walks out of the room. He tries to go to send word. But the parents ask him to save their son.

At Gugukdan, Cheol-Ryong reads the newspaper. The 16 years old girl wins Governor’s Award. But Governor is in Tokyo. So Sato will present the award. The time is the night after tomorrow in the library auditorium. Cheol-Ryong thinks it’s the chance that they should catch. But So-Ran says they need to confirm if Sato will go to the auditorium.

Cheol-Ryong takes over the schedule of Sato that Ga-Kyung got. It shows speech. He says he didn’t trust her when she gave them the schedule. He didn’t know where Sato would give a speech. But the same schedule shows up on the newspaper.

He tells So-Ran that it’s the first intelligence Ga-Kyung provided. He decides to do it. Jung-Yeop asks So-Ran not to leak anything to Ga-Kyung. If the girl tips them off. They will be in trouble.

At the hospital, Woon-Hak doesn’t come back. Ga-Kyung pulls out the silver needle on her own. Tae-Woong asks her why did she come to the hospital since she doesn’t listen to the doctor? She talks back that she didn’t say she would come. He thinks she shouldn’t leave like that. Her ankle should be fixed. He asks her to sit down. He bandages her up. He holds her ankle. He reveals he learned the skill at the school. She’s surprised that the school taught it.

She doesn’t know it. Because she has never gone to school. He tells her that those guys taught him first aid after he entered the Army Officer Academy. She takes a walk. She’s very happy after she felt better. He tells her that she should thank him. She thanks him. She says it’s not a lie. She’s honest.

He brings up that she said that she liked him. She insisted that she didn’t lie. He asks her not to let Yoo Philip know it. He must maintain a friendly relationship with Yoo Philip. She used it to join Government General.

Tae-Woong and Ga-Kyung are taking the medicine. He asks her did Yoo Philip beat her? Yoo Philip shows up. He tells Tae-Woong that he came to take the medicine that he bought his wife. He heard that the hospital was very famous. She needs some time to recover.

Yoo Philip puts his arm around Ga-Kyung’s waist. He wants to take her away if Tae-Woong doesn’t mind. Tae-Woong thinks Yoo Philip is a jerk. He doesn’t understand why Ga-Kyung dated Yoo Philip. He takes a look at the ointment in his hand. He didn’t give it to Ga-Kyung.

Yoo Philip takes Ga-Kyung to the alley. He asks her did she think they would be afraid after she took Tae-Woong to the hospital? Why didn’t she tip them off? She claims she didn’t know it was their turf. The one who took her there was Tae-Woong. She sees Tae-Woong. Yoo Philip asks Tae-Woong why is he there? He thought he left. Tae-Woong returns the ointment to Ga-Kyung.

In the evening at So-Ran’s house, Yoo Philip learns that Ga-Kyung got nothing because she ankle was hurt. Someone forced her to get work early. He laughs. He thinks she has an excuse for her incompetence. She yells at him. Her ankle was hurt because of him. So-Ran can understand that Ga-Kyung was hurt, and she couldn’t do her job well. She wants to talk about it after she recovers. She gives the information of the employees in Government General to her. Although Sato and his wife’s information isn’t in the notebook. But it will help Ga-Kyung.

Ga-Kyung checks the notebook. She realizes that So-Ran and Yoo Philip arranged a spy at Government General before. So-Ran denies it. She says they collected the information for a long time. She asks Ga-Kyung did something happen at the hospital? Ga-Kyung remembers Tae-Woong confessed his feelings to her. She doesn’t tell it to So-Ran. She says nothing happened. The guy just took her to the hospital. Because he thought she was someone’s lover. The guy asked him to be nice to her.

In the room, So-Ran applies the ointment to Ga-Kyung’s wound. She apologizes to her for causing her to get hurt. Ga-Kyung says it’s nothing. She endured an even more brutal beating. She knows So-Ran and Yoo Philip aren’t a real couple. But the guy likes her. So-Ran guesses Ga-Kyung read too many novels. But Ga-Kyung can tell from Yoo Philip’s eyes. He couldn’t take his eyes off So-Ran. A married man wouldn’t do that.

Ga-Kyung asks So-Ran about Seo-Hee’s father. She feels sorry. Because she shouldn’t have mentioned it. She figures she doesn’t want to call her Seo-Hee. But she has no choice. So-Ran tells Ga-Kyung that Sato is going to give a speech according to the schedule she provided. Ga-Kyung takes out the ointment from her pocket after So-Ran left.

So-Ran has a meeting with her people. She tells them that Sato will be at Government General when the ceremony is held. It was told by Ga-Kyung. At the same time, Editorial Department will report a history of Korea to Sato. But the girl who won the first place in the art game said Sato will present the prize to her in person. Jung-Yeop confirmed from the mother of the girl. Because Sato will come, so the school invited the girl’s mother to attend. Cheol-Ryong tells So-Ran that he knows Ga-Kyung is very smart. But she should trust them in the situation.

The next day in Tae-Woong’s office, Ga-Kyung asks Tae-Woong is he going to report to Sato on his work? He says it’s the director’s job. He’s just an interpreter. He asks her how did she know Sato is going to listen to the report. He doesn’t remember he mentioned it. She says she heard that someone talked about it in the hallway. He asks her not to walk around Japanese Government. Many pairs of eyes are watching. There’re not too many female employees here.

In the evening, So-Ran is lying in wait on the second floor of the Fabric Store. It flashes back. So-Ran wants to shoot Sato if the guy shows up. Cheol-Ryong rejects it. He says he will do it on his own. So-Ran and the two doctors have been recognized by the enemies. Woon-Hak reminds Cheol-Ryong that he’s the most dangerous one. The walls are covered with his photos. Cheol-Ryong says the photo was taken a while ago. It doesn’t look like him. He comforts Woon-Hak that he will wear a hat.

Jung-Yeop volunteers to ride a bike. Cheol-Ryong reminds Jung-Yeop that she has three children. He asks him does his family know he’s doing the job? Jung-Yeop says his family will be proud of it if they know it. But Cheol-Ryong insists on riding the bike. He asks Jung-Yeop to block the road if he wants to take part in.

At present, Tae-Woong asks Ga-Kyung to bring a photo with her tomorrow. But she says she doesn’t have any photos. He asks her to let Yoo Philip take a photo of her. Ga-Kyung calls Yoo Philip. She reports to him that Sato doesn’t leave Government General. He opens the door to leave the office. But she sees Tae-Woong.

On the street, Cheol-Ryong mistakes that Sato is in the car. He rides his bike to tail the car. He tries to shoot Sato. But he sees Jung-Yeop being tied in the car. Someone in the car shoots Cheol-Ryong. So-Ran shoots the driver in the car. She suppresses the enemy with firepower. Her comrades catch the chance to save Jung-Yeop. But Jung-Yeop dies in Woon-Hak’s car.

So-Ran tries to retreat. But Fukuda shows up. She shoots the soldier behind him. He’s furious to shoot her back. Her arm is hurt. She doesn’t have any bullets. Fukuda leads the soldiers to head to the store where she hides. Sato walks out of Government General with a group of soldiers. He smiles.
