Outlander Season 8 Episode 2 Recap: Prophecies

In London 1775, Ben walks into the room in Outlander Season 8 episode 2. His two friends are playing pool. He tells them that he will be sent to Boston. He joined General Howe’s detachment. Ben’s cousin gives Ben General Rolan’s statue. Ben promises the guy that he will keep it.

In North Carolina 1779, the girl is studying the creature in the room. She learns that she will swallow it each time she drinks water. Claire Fraser comforts her that what she sees is harmless. It will be dissolved by her stomach acid. But there’re plenty of nasty things in water. The girl worries that her stomach acid will eat right through things. She’s told that it’s how her food is digested. Her stomach walls are very thick, and they’re covered in mucus. She figures it out that her stomach is full of snot. The teacher laughs. She tells the girl that she will find mucus in most of the inside of her body. She has the things called mucous membranes, and they secrete mucus. Whenever her body needs help with a little bit of slipperiness.

The girl wishes Jane was there. She thinks Jane would have loved it. She brings up that Jane would tell it to her after she heard something interesting. Mrs. Abbott didn’t like such a talk. She stopped Jane from doing so. She thought she was weird. She scolded her for practicing the dark arts. But the men liked Jane’s strangeness.

Claire Fraser tells the girl Fanny that she saw the terrible things like her. She can tell it to her family. But she shouldn’t tell it to the people on the Ridge. They won’t have had the same experiences as them. They might be shocked if they know her previous life. She allows her to talk about her sister Jane. Because Jane helped her leave the hell. She promises her that they will protect her.

James and Roger saw the wood in the forest. James talks about Dougal’s son William. Roger says that they called the person Buck. Buck stayed in 1739. They invited him to leave with them. But Buck rejected it. James feels relieved after knowing Roger forgave Buck. He brings up that Buck had him hanged. He’s not sure if he can do the same. Roger says that Buck is a good man. He thinks good men do things thinking them right. They realize later that they were wrong. He thinks he should forgive those men.

James tells Roger that he’s reading Frank’s book. Frank says that a battle will come to the backcountry. The Patriots will win. Because the Overmountain men call upon each other. He mentions the names John Sevier, Benjamin Cleveland and Isaac Shelby. But Roger never heard the names from history. James worries that Frank won’t like him if the guy knows his identity.

Captain Cunningham shows up. He came because he received the message that James wanted to see him. He went to James’s home. His wife told him that he’s there. James introduces his son-in-law Roger to Cunningham. Cunningham reveals he had a talk with Roger a few days ago. James shakes hands with Cunningham. He realizes that he’s a Freemason. Cunningham hasn’t attended the meeting for a long time. James wants to chance it. He plans to organize a meeting on the Ridge every fortnight. He invites Cunningham to attend the meeting.

In Philadelphia, the couple gets married in the house. Their marriage isn’t accepted by the law of Pennsylvania. The guy attends the wedding as the only member of the Grey family. He apologizes to the bride Mercy. He thinks they’re very stubborn. He says that they have their ideas. But they will support the couple. He praises the groom Henry for marrying the girl. He wishes he will be happy.

Henry thanks his cousin for his wonderful speech. He takes him to another room. He knows he’s concealing something from him. His Cousin reveals it’s about Henry’s brother Ben. Ben was taken prisoner by the Continentals whilst leading a raiding party in New Jersey. Ben died in his custody. Henry is shocked after knowing the bad news. The cousin reveals Ben has a wife and son. He will go to take a look what happened for the two. He will try his best even if he’s not in the army anymore. Henry cries.

Amy is attacked by a bear in the forest when she talks about how she gave a birth with the ladies. One of the ladies shoots the bear. James hears Amy’s scream. He carries the wounded Amy home. He asks his wife Claire to do something. Amy’s daughter Aidan worries about her mother. She tries to approach her mother. But she’s taken away. Because Claire needs to work. Claire drives Fanny out of the room. James reveals Roger went to look for Evan. Claire asks her wife to go to get more bandages.

In the kitchen, Aidan expresses that she wants to see her mother. The lady persuades the girl that they should let Claire help her mother. Claire checks Amy’s wound. She finds out that the lady cannot be saved. She tells Amy that her daughter is there. Her husband and her son are on the way to the house.

Ivan and his son Orrie arrive. Ivan hugs his daughter. Roger informs Claire that Ivan arrived. She tells him that Amy is bleeding internally. She cannot help the lady. Ivan tells the kids that their mother will be fine. He takes them to see Amy. Aidan grabs Amy’s hand. She asks her to wake up. Ivan thinks Claire should help his wife since she helped so many people. But she cannot do it. Ivan promises Amy that he will take care of the kids. Roger prays for Amy.

Ian runs out. He worries that his wife Rachel was hurt. She tells him that she and the baby Oggy are fine. But Amy was attacked by a bear in the woods. She cries for her friend. James walks out of the house. He tells the two that Amy passed away.

Claire takes care of Amy’s body in the room. Mrs. Cunningham comes to help Claire. She heard what happened from the trading post. She made a shroud for Amy.

Outside the house, James and his people decide to go to kill the bear. But Ivan and Orrie want to join them. James gives a gun to Orrie. He tells him that he will let him and his father kill the bear. He teaches the boy that he should aim at the bear’s heart. He needs to take the bear’s meat and bones because the bear took his mother. So the bear won’t hurt anyone.

Brianna persuades her father James not to do so. She reminds him that Orrie is just a kid. But he thinks Orrie has the right to take revenge for his mother. In the room, Mrs. Cunningham suggests that Claire should have plastic surgery for the dead. She tells her that her name is Elspeth.

James and Ivan are looking for the bear in the woods. But the bear has been killed by Cunningham. Cunningham tells Orrie that he has taken revenge for his mother. He reveals he followed the bear with a gun. The bear was very strong. He had to reload a time or two when he ran. James thanks Cunningham.

Claire makes the sauerkraut for Rachel in the kitchen. But Rachel is going to give birth. Claire realizes that she doesn’t have to do it for the girl. She asks Brianna to take Rachel into the surgery. Ian asks Claire to wrap the baby with the pelt when the baby is born. But she asks him to do it on his own.

The baby is born. Ian is very happy when he holds his child. He lets Rachel hold the baby. Fanny sees it. Ian offers to name his son Marmaduke. But Rachel prefers the name Fox. James joins Ian outside in the evening. He mentions his wife and son fall asleep. He knows his son’s name is Oggy. Ian tells his uncle that he though everything was changed when Claire put the baby into his arms. He wishes his father can come to see Oggy. James tells Ian that his father will be proud of it. He thinks his mother Jenny will be happy with it.

The next day, Benjamin Cleveland visits Claire. She claims that James is her husband. She tells the guy that her husband is in the woodshed. But he refuses to introduce himself to her. He rides the horse away. Benjamin finds James in the woodshed. He tells him that he’s his servant. He knows he’s General Fraser. But James says that he’s not a general anymore. He resigned his commission. Benjamin brings up James resigned for taking care of his wife. But his wife is fine now.

Benjamin wants to know if James plans to rejoin the army. He reveals many of his countrymen are in the mountains. They’re raising their own militia to protect their families and their property. James wonders who are those guys. Benjamin says that the people are John Sevier, Isaac Shelby and William Campbell. The Tories and Indians want to rob their land. James brings up that he saw some bodies. He guesses Benjamin might know it. Benjamin admits that he killed those guys. It’s retaliation. He mentions what he told James that those guys were Tories. He heard that there’s a Tory on his land. The guy’s name is Cunningham. James admits it to Benjamin that he knows the captain Cunningham. Benjamin laughs. He reminds James that nobody knows when the British will appear. He can help him if he joins his group.

James brings up that he rejected George Washington in person. He wonders why Benjamin thinks he will change his mind. Benjamin claims that it’s just a friendly invitation. James promises Benjamin that he will take care of Cunningham. Benjamin leaves.

Roger shows up. He sees Benjamin. He remembers Frank mentioned the guy. James tells Roger that the guy wanted him to fight with them. Roger learns that James becomes James Fraser in the book.

In the house, James tells his wife that Benjamin asked him to kill Cunningham. Claire wants to know the reason. Benjamin thought the guy is danger to James. Frank’s book says that Cunningham is retired. James decides to keep an eye on Cunningham. Roger is told that he won’t take part in the battle. He feels offended. He offers to start with Lodge. Roger goes to work. James tells Claire that he didn’t tell the guy that he will die in the battle. She praises him for saying so. Because she believes that he won’t die.

The lodge begins. Cunningham gives a speech. He says that he heard a call from God when his son died in his arms. James suspects Cunningham. In the evening, James reads Frank’s book at home. Frank says that Cunningham knows he will die. James sleeps with Claire in the bed. He remembers the book told him that he will die. He wonders who will sleep with his wife after he dies.
