Koyuki goes to the school in The Ramparts of Ice episode 1. The guy asks her which of the three is the most handsome. She cannot give him the answer. It promotes him to laugh. He thinks she’s cute. The guy’s friend stops the guy. He reminds him that the girl is nervous. Koyuki’s classmates mock Koyuki. She’s not happy with it.
Boundaries And Walls
At another school, tomorrow high school. In the classroom, Miki invites her classmates to the snack party. The classmates are very happy. The guy watches Miki outside the classroom. He thinks she’s a goddess. Another guy likes Miki as well. He mentions the girl greeted them. He thinks she’s a fairy. But Koyuki shows up behind him with a gloomy expression. She hands over the paper to him. She tells him that the teacher asked her to give it to him. He’s startled. But he still thanks her. She walks away. The two guys think the girl is terrifying. She’s Koyuki Hikawa. Everyone calls her queen. She doesn’t know the guys in the class very well. It was the first time that the guy talked to her. She’s always with a stern expression. She exudes a certain aura that not coming near her.
Miki walks with the two girls in the hallway. They think she’s an idol. Koyuki walks past them. She looks out the window. She notices that it’s already winter. But nothing happened. She doesn’t care what others think of her. But she minds the guy’s expression. She wonders why the two guys were afraid of her. She looks at herself in the mirror. She thinks it was her face. She pulls her face.
Minato shows up behind Koyuki. She’s startled to fall on the floor. He apologizes to her. He explains it to her that he wondered what she was doing. Yota shows up. He mistakes that Minato bullied the girl. He thinks he’s bad. He run to Koyuki. He reaches out his hand to her. He asks her if she can stand up. She accepts his help. But she notices that he’s very tall. He apologizes to her. He thinks Minato was rude. But Minato claims that he did nothing. He tells Koyuki that he thought she was cool. But she was funny. He leaves with Yota. Koyuki wonders why Minato knew her name. She wants to know who is him.
Koyuki walks into the classroom. She sees the girl sitting on her chair. She decides to wait for a while. But the girl notices Koyuki’s terrified expression. She’s scared to tell her that she will leave her seat. But Koyuki says that it’s fine. She has a seat on her chair. The girl sits behind her feels sorry for her. Koyuki wonders what the girl are apologizing her. She turns around. The girl sees Koyuki’s terrified eye. She shakes all over. Koyuki is thinking what the girl did.
In the locker room, Koyuki changes her shoes. She receives a message from Miki. Miki asks Koyuki if she returned home. Koyuki denies it. Miki doesn’t need to work. She asks Koyuki to return home with her. Koyuki agrees. But she only gives Miki ten seconds. Miki runs to the locker room. Koyuki laughs. Because she wasn’t serious. Miki claims that she broke the record. Koyuki thinks her friend is very silly.
Miki and Koyuki walk out of the school building. Miki wants to visit Koyuki after she returns home. Koyuki agrees. Because her mother isn’t at home. Miki mentions Koyuki ignored her when she ran into her in the hallway. Koyuki explains it to Miki that she did it because she had nothing to say to her. The two guys watch them. One of the guys thinks Miki is amazing. He mentions the queen is nice to the girl.
In Koyuki’s room, Miki meets Koyuki. Miki reveals she likes the two girls because they were nice. But they treated her as an idol. They thought she was a saint. She thinks they should have treated her as a gorilla like before. She crushes the iron can. She complains it to Koyuki that she wanted to be kidding and do something stupid.
Koyuki laughs. She thinks Miki should have showed it in front of the classmates. She didn’t have to play innocent. But Miki thinks she cannot show her true natural immediately even if she wants to do that. She got into the zone naturally when she was in the classroom. It seems that the real herself didn’t exist. She doesn’t know which one is the real herself. She has been not knowing her feelings. She slaps her face. She thinks she became sentimental.
Koyuki tells Miki that it’s not a problem. She thinks someone will stay no matter Miki is an idol or a gorilla. She doesn’t want to stay with the person she dislikes. Miki wonders if Koyuki is fine that she doesn’t talk to anyone all day. She would die. She hopes she would have the ability to stay alone like her. But Koyuki thinks Miki is great. Because she considered others. But Miki shouldn’t force herself if she feels pain. Miki thinks the idea doesn’t make sense. She offers to prepare for the exam.
The next day, Koyuki walks into the classroom. Nobody is in the classroom. She sits in her seat. She likes the classroom in the early morning. She opens her schoolbag. She sees Miki’s notebook. She remembers she and Miki studied together at her house. She guesses the girl might need to use it in the class. So she needs to return it to her. Miki doesn’t come to the school yet. So she needs to put it on the girl’s desk.
Koyuki tries to get into Miki’s classroom. But Yota bumps her. He catches her before she falls down. The notebook drops on the floor. He asks her if she’s fine. She recognizes him. But he’s close to her. It promotes her to wonder what happened.
It flashes back. Koyuki’s father asks Koyuki to feed the Giraffe. She’s startled when the Giraffe approaches her.
At present, Yota explains it to Koyuki that he didn’t recognize her because he didn’t wear contact lenses. He asks her if she’s fine. But she remembers the Giraffe. He picks up the notebook. He figures it out that she’s Miki’s friend. She admits it. She asks him if he’s the student of Class 5. He tells her that he’s the student of Class 6. He came to take the textbook that he lent to his friend. He returns the notebook to her. But she doesn’t know where Miki’s seat is.
Yota takes Koyuki to Miki’s seat. He asks her if she wants to leave a message on Miki’s desk. She rejects it. She says that she will send a message to the girl. He reveals he wrote a lot on his friend’s desk. She can tell that he’s very gentle. He says goodbye to her. He calls her Ice Room. But her name is Glacier. She doesn’t correct him. She knows they rarely see each other.
Koyuki walks out of the school building. She notices that Minato is with Yota. They have an eye contact. She’s flustered to run away. Koyuki is in front of the vending machine. She feels awkward because she looked away. But she doesn’t know him enough to greet him. She tries to order the drink. But Minato shows up behind her. He asks her why she ignored him. She ran away after he waved at her. She’s surprised that he did it. He feels taken aback. He covers his face with his hands. She explains it to him that she didn’t notice it. She didn’t have an evil intention. He removes his hands. We find out that he’s fine. He gets her point. He reminds her that her drink is ready.
Koyuki takes the curry drink. Minato is surprised that she likes it. She denies it. She tells him that she pressed it wrong. It promotes him to think that he caused her to make a wrong decision. He apologizes to her. She realizes that he’s not a bad guy. But she’s wary of him. Because he’s different from her.
Minato’s friends show up. They think Minato is picking up Koyuki. One of the friends mentions the guy likes to pretend to know someone well. He asks Koyuki to be careful. But he says that he was kidding. Koyuki cannot endures the two’s interaction patterns. Minato pulls his face. Koyuki realizes that the guy is teasing her. She smiles at him. She walks away. Minato’s friend thinks the girl is terrifying. He wonders if she was angry that he interrupted. Minato comforts his friend that the girl didn’t mean that. He laughs. But he notices that Koyuki built walls.
In the classroom, Koyuki drinks the curry drink. She remembers she was bullied in her previous school. It caused her to build ice walls.
The Ramparts of Ice helps us get into Koyuki’s heart in the episode. She’s an ice queen who refuses to contact any person except her friend Miki. She doesn’t know how to react when people talk to her. She always does something terrible. It promotes the boys in the school to think that she’s terrifying. She doesn’t plan to get along with her classmates after she had a hard time when she was in the middle school. She shuts herself off. It promotes her classmates not to know what kind of person she is. She is actually a good person even if she looks scary.
But Koyuki’s fate might be changed by the two boys Minato and Yota. The two are nice to her. There’s a trend that she might open her heart. But it’s not time yet. Minato begins to pay attention to the girl after they had a talk at the vending machine. He sees the ice walls she built. Minato is a sunny boy. He likes to flirt with girls at the school. Koyuki isn’t the only girl he picks up. But she’s a special one to him. I only see a few scenes in episode 1 about the girl’s past. But I know she fell for someone ever. But she was hurt. I hope she will find her happiness.
