Minato eats with his friend at the restaurant in The Ramparts of Ice episode 2. He remembers he discovered that a lot of people were easy to get along with, after he talked to them. He decides to help Koyuki if environment caused her to be alone. Minato’s friend complains it to Minato that he didn’t listen to him. But Minato says that he did it.

On the street, the guy grabs Koyuki’s hand. He tries to take her to go to have fun with them. She flatly refuses. But she worries that she will provoke him. Because the guy has a friend. She’s not their rival. But she’s afraid and she’s angry. They didn’t respect her, and they wasted her time. She shakes off the guy’s hand. She tries to leave. But she bumps Yota. He explains it to her that he came to her because he needed to cross the crosswalk. She whispers in his ear. She asks him to pretend to be her friend. She begs him to walk away with her until they leave the two guys’ field of vision.
Koyuki claims that she gathered with her friend. She says goodbye to the two guys. Yota turns around. He looks at the two. He wonders if the girl knew them. He runs away with Koyuki. It promises the two guys to think that the high school students are scary.
Koyuki bows to Yota. She thanks him. But he thinks he did nothing. He asks her if she knew the two. She shakes her head. She says that the two appeared in front of her suddenly. It promotes him to think that she was popular. She denies it. She thinks it’s not what he saw. The attitude of them that they have fun. They actually looked down on her. So it’s not a thing that she should be happy.
Koyuki looks at Yota’s face. She wonders why she defended herself. She thinks she should have gone through the motions. She worries that he would think she was weird. He asks her if he should have beaten the two. She rejects it. She thinks he didn’t have to do that. She feels sorry for using him to get rid of the two. He thinks she doesn’t have to apologize. He tells her that it’s fine. He won’t get angry for something like that.
In the classroom, the class meeting goes on for quite a while. Miki feels sorry for letting Koyuki wait for her. Koyuki and Yota are on the way somewhere. She asks him to tell her his name. He tells her that his name is Yota. She’s told that they will arrive at the destination within five minutes. But she worries that they cannot talk for five minutes. He can tell that she’s a good friend of Miki. She reveals she and Miki were childhood partners. They lived very close to each other. They went to the same elementary and middle schools.
Yota reveals he and Miki were in same academy when they were in middle school. Koyuki is surprised that the two knew each other when they were in middle school. It means that the guy knows Miki’s true nature. Yota tells Koyuki that he likes Miki the way she used to be. She says that she’s too. He wants to tell everyone Miki’s true self.
The guy and Minato are in the restaurant. He sees Yota. He wonders who’s the girl with Yota. Minato is shocked after he saw Koyuki.
In the evening, Miki arrives at the academy. She sees Koyuki and Yota. Koyuki prepares a seat for Miki. But Miki cares for the team of Koyuki and Yota. The two laugh. Outside the academy, Miki blames Koyuki for not telling it to her early. Yota takes Koyuki’s side. He tells Miki that he asked Koyuki not to leak. Because he wanted to scare Miki. Miki wonders why Koyuki listened to the guy.
The three are on the way home. Miki asks Yota if he beat the guy who tangled Koyuki. He says that he didn’t do it. Because Koyuki asked him not to do that. He thinks the two girls are going to take the same tram. He volunteers to escort them to the station. Miki is happy to thank the guy. She wonders if he always went to the study room. He says that he did it. His siblings are still young so that it was too noisy at home. They are three years old, and they’re twins.
Koyuki thinks Yota’s mother was tough. There’s a big age gap among the children. Yota says that he could focus in the study room because there were preschoolers at home. Miki gets his point. She mentions she didn’t check her cell phone. She didn’t have time to take advantage of the chaos. Koyuki asks her friend not to take advantage of the chaos.
Yota stops in front of the vending machine. He thinks they should have some sugar after they studied. Miki thinks it’s a good idea. She wants to buy drinks as well. Koyuki notices that Yota is taller than the vending machine. She hopes she would be born to be tall. Yota volunteers to buy the two girls drinks. He knows Miki wants red bean soup. She tries to touch the machine. But the coins fall on the ground. Miki and Koyuki pick up the coins for Yota. Yota feels sorry. He asks Koyuki what she wants to drink. She tries to reject it. He gets Miki to choose for Koyuki.
Miki guesses Koyuki will want to drink warm cream of corn soup. But she wants to drink red bean soup. So she chooses red bean soup. She wishes Koyuki drinks the same drink. So they will say that it’s delicious together. Yota laughs. He thinks Miki is very selfish. Koyuki notices that the two are very close.
The three drink drinks together. Yota tells Koyuki that he, Miki and Minato were inseparable at the academy. Miki admits it. She says that they would talk and have a meal together. She’s surprised that Koyuki knows Minato as well. But Koyuki denies it. She remembers the guy pulled her face. Yota mistakes that the guy bullied Koyuki again. He thinks the girl is very poor. He asks her to ignore the guy. It promotes her to think that he and Minato didn’t get along well. He laughs. He says that he was just kidding.
Yota wonders if everyone around Koyuki called her Koyuki. Koyuki reveals only Miki called her the name. He calls her the name. He thinks her name is good. She notices that he’s very pleased with himself. He tells her that he doesn’t like someone is too reserved. She doesn’t have to be polite to him when she talks to him. Miki gets the guy’s point. She tells Koyuki that she feels more at ease when someone is a bit more laid-back.
Miki and Koyuki arrive at the station. Miki asks Yota if he will go to the study room tomorrow. He tells her that he will go to the study room. He says goodbye to the two girls.
Minato studies at home. He remember Koyuki was with Yota. He ran into Koyuki at the school. The boy introduced Koyuki as a weirdo because she was always unhappy. Minato guessed the girl couldn’t find the people who could get along with her. So his eyes followed her each time he ran into her. She was alone again. He thought she was cute.
Minato gets a call from the girl. She asks for a meeting up. She wants to tell something to him. He meets her in the park. He guesses she’s cold. He hands over the milk tea to her. But she tells him that she wants to break up. He’s surprised that she wanted to break up with him. She cannot trust him. He might have been thoughtful. But he never had feelings for her. She tears up when she complains. She wipes off her tears. He wonders what he did making her feel lonely. She tells him that she wants to know his true feelings. She thinks he lacks self-awareness.
Minato returns home. His mother thinks he had an urgent matter. Because he just went out. He says that he didn’t have something important.
The next day at school, Minato’s friends are happy after knowing Minato was dumped by a girl. Minato asks his friends to comfort him. But they know he’s going to get a new girlfriend soon. Fujita thinks Minato is very poor after knowing he was dumped. He catches the chance to ask her why he kept being dumped. The guy thinks Minato is a dangerous man. He pins him down on the desk. Yota walks into the classroom. He sees Minato being pinned down. He guesses he got himself into trouble. Minato claims that he did nothing.
Minato and Yota walk out of the buffet restaurant. Yota thinks he would get more if he came to the restaurant early. Minato asks Yota if he went home with Koyuki together. He guesses he will say that it’s a misunderstanding. But Yota admits it.
Koyuki opens the door of the infirmary when Minato talks to Yota. The two have an eye contact. Minato asks Koyuki why she’s in the infirmary. He figures it out that she was hurt. He notices that Koyuki and Yota are close. Koyuki tells Yota that she came to the infirmary to enjoy the heat. Because it’s cold today. She asks him if he wore contact lenses. Minato notices that the girl didn’t look at him.
The nurse shows up. She drives Koyuki out of the infirmary. Yota thinks Koyuki was scolded. Minato knows the girl is going to go to the fourth floor. He wants to accompany her. But she says that she wants to go to the first floor. She walks away.
In the evening. Koyuki, Miki and Yota leave the study room. Miki thinks they studied hard. But she wants to talk when she studies. Yota invites the girls to come to his classroom after school tomorrow. He will try his best to teach Miki. She’s happy to thank the teacher. But his head hits the utility pole. She worries about him.

Koyuki worries that Yota’s class will be noisy. Because she knows Minato will be there. Yota comforts the girl that the people will leave after the class. She feels awkward after her thoughts were discovered. Koyuki and Miki return home together. Miki invites Koyuki to her restaurant. Koyuki gets into her house. She notices that she just smiled. She thinks she was happy today. She expects tomorrow. But she prefers to stay alone. She feels torn. She wonders what she wants to do.
The next day, Koyuki walks into Yota’s classroom. She and Yota received the message from Miki that Miki will be late. He offers to set a group. She agrees. But they find out that Minato is behind them. Minato asks the two if they’re dating. Koyuki tells Minato that it’s a misunderstanding. Yota reveals Miki will come as well. Miki shows up. She’s surprised that Minato is there. Koyuki notices that Miki showed her true nature. Minato learns that it’s a study club. He wants to join it.
