Ossie tries to help Bernard upstairs with the rope in Silo Season 3 episode 9. He tells him that he’s gonna have to charge him double for that. And if it turns out he’s carrying tools, it’s triple. Bernard gives some gold coins to Ossie. He thinks it’s enough. He walks to the gate. He sees Chad and Jo. He thinks they both looking well. He guesses Camille is expecting him. He runs into Camille in the hallway.
Camille asks Bernard what does he want? They get in the Vault. Legacy asks Bernard why is he here? Bernard says he knows drugs are in the water, and that Legacy has Juliette. He’s here to ask for her release. He asks Camille to turn off the vitamin D. She asks him why would she do that? He says because in return he’s giving her the gift of narrative, which she needs right now. Word is spreading out of Mechanical that she brainwashed Juliette. He can save her from a rebellion.
Camille asks Legacy is that true? He says social harmony remains well below Mayor Jahns’s tenure. Even below Mr. Holland’s brief term. Bernard tells Camille that people are easily manipulated. All they need is someone worse, and he will be that person for her. She tells them that he killed Meadows. She can also say that he ordered the deaths of Jahns and Marnes, and that he lied about Juliette wanting to go out. Blame the unrest of the past few months on him.
She says none of it would be a lie. He was following orders, just like she is. She asks him what happens after that? He says rehabilitate him to show what a merciful leader she is, far more than he ever was. Then he will live his days out quietly. He asks Legacy to run the numbers. Legacy says the difference in outcomes is negligible. On the other hand, if they present the narrative Bernard has suggested, then send him outside to clean, and maintain the original plan with Juliette Nichols and the vitamin D, the Silo actually benefits.
Bernard says that cannot be right. Legacy is missing something. People want redemption stories. Redemption is the commonality in all the great myths, the major religions. Legacy tells Bernard that not only has he miscalculated, he has also failed to realize that he has no leverage. He’s already in custody, and he remains deeply unpopular with 89 percent of the population.
Bernard is angry to blame Legacy for taking everything from him after he has given his life to him. Legacy says goodbye to Bernard. Bernard thinks Legacy isn’t an omniscient. If he was actually omniscient, he wouldn’t have led them here to begin with. He wouldn’t need to erase everyone’s memories or kill so many. He doesn’t know much more than he does.
Bernard and Camilla leave the Vault. She asks him did that turn out the way he expected? He says yes. It’s been the same voice for the entire time he served. But he has never heard it end a conversation like that. He asks about her. She says no. But she also doesn’t provoke it. He agrees with what she said. It wanted to stop talking because of annoyance, frustration, anger. Rather unmachine-like characteristics. She reveals one time, not long ago. It was strange. It consoled her. He figures she wondered whether it was human. She thinks it’s impossible. Someone whose voice hasn’t changed all these years and is always available to talk.
He thinks perhaps not the same person. He knows one thing about a person. A person can be defeated. She turns around, and she takes a look at the Vault.
Camilla tells the citizens that former interim mayor and head of IT, Bernard Holland, has been found alive. For all his crimes against the Silo, he has been sentenced by the judge to clean at noon today. Please make plans to attend the viewing in the nearest cafeteria.
Billings is on the way somewhere. He runs into Hank. Billings asks Hank did he hear the announcement? Then he knows he cannot stay. Hank tells Billings that he just needs five minutes. Deputy Jerry calls Billings. Billings tries to answer Jerry. But Hank stops Billings.
Juliette tries to open the door of the cell. Robert tells her that he had that door reinforced. Whatever she’s doing, she should save his energy. She thinks if they hit the joints at the same time, maybe they can weaken the hinges. He says even if she got out, that hallway is full of raiders. The only way it ends differently is if his wife stops taking orders from that screen. He doesn’t even know who she is right now.
Hank tells Billings to Walker’s workshop. Walker tells Billings that Bernard Holland offered himself up to clean as a distraction. Knox tells her they can only do what they need to do if they use something that Billings discovered. Billings asks Knox did he tell Walker? Knox denies it. Walker says even her own wife wouldn’t tell her. Carla claims that she cannot decide it. Knox says he didn’t tell Shirley as well. Because this is such a big breaking of the Pact.
Billings has to be the one to show them. Billings asks Walker what is it she wants him to do? Shirley says to start, they have to get into water filtration on 55.
In the cell, Juliette and Robert are playing casting game. The door opens. Chad asks Juliette to get up. Robert reminds Chad that Juliette is still mayor. Juliette tells Robert that it’s fine. She leaves the cell with Chad. Billings takes Walker and Shirley to the cave. He lets them get in the cave.
Juliette is taken to see Camille. She asks her why she’s in her office. Camille lets Juliette sit down. She asks her did her friends tell her what happened during the rebellion? Juliette says she got the highlights. Camille asks Juliette did they tell her Bernard tried to starve them out? Stopped all food deliveries to the Down Deep? Even had one of the kitchen workers poison the pantry. She helped the rebels move the barricade up ten floors so they’d have a farm.
Camille tells Juliette that her friends would have died, and their rebellion would have been over if it wasn’t for her. And then they only won because Robert and she got the support of the sheriff’s deputies. Juliette thinks Camille had her reasons. Camille says Bernard couldn’t be trusted anymore. So she went against her orders, against the Pact, to do what was right. She knows Bernard didn’t die. In fact, they have him now. He’s going out to clean at noon today. Juliette will preside as mayor.
Juliette asks Camille did Bernard turn himself in? Camille guesses Bernard was hiding down with Juliette’s friends. Juliette asks Camille does she want her to confirm that? Camille denies it. She tells Juliette that she asked her here because she wants them to work together. Juliette laughs. She wants to have a drink. Camille says what’s happening with the water is an extreme measure, but she doesn’t have any other choice at this point. People know too much.
They’re starting to ask questions, in large part because of Juliette. Questions that can, and will, get them killed. Juliette drinks the wine. She doesn’t understand why people like that. Camille tells Juliette that after half a glass, she doesn’t really care. Juliette mentions Camille put drugs in the water. Camille says it will no doubt be painful, as it was 140 years ago. Juliette denies it. She says the forgetting won’t be painful. The consequences are. Hundreds of people jumped off the stairs. Children starved to death. Because their parents forgot to feed them.
Camille knows it. This is where Juliette comes in. She and a person from each department. Juliette figures because Camille needs them to train everyone to function as a society again. Camille tells Juliette that she and the other representatives will need to forget as well. But not Camille. Camille says someone has to ensure the transition is successful. She will have her memories. But she will be alone in that. Each day until everything is reset, she will have to remind her son who she is and hope he believes her. Or that there’s enough of him left to remember.
Emerson calls Camille. She reports it to her that a lot people are heading up. Camille tells Emerson that they’re expecting that. Everyone wants to see Bernard Holland die. But Emerson thinks it’s something else. There’s a couple hundred following the two from Mechanical who led the rebellion. And another group not moving, ten levels up on 55. Camille asks Emerson not to let those guys get to water filtration.
Shirley and Knox lead the people trying to pass the door. But Emerson and the guards block their way. Knox thinks Emerson knows what’s in the water. He asks her to step aside and none of her people have to end up in Medical. Camille and Juliette show up. Camille threatens Juliette that she will throw every single one of her friends over the side.
Shirley tells Emerson that they wanna wipe their memories. That goes for her as well. Emerson asks the guards to prepare their weapons. Knox tells his people that they’re going to do this another day. They’ve made their point. But the woman wants to go through. She knocks him aside. Juliette stops her fans. She asks them to drop their weapons down and go home. Shirley mentions they put drugs in the water. Juliette says it’s not true. It’s vitamin D.
The people leave. Camille praises Juliette. Her friends get to live another day. She walks to Emerson. She asks her to stay here until after the cleaning. But Emerson asks Camille is it true about the water? Camille denies it. She says it’s just another Down Deep conspiracy theory. Emerson believes Camille’s words. Because she’s too loyal to her.
Juliette is tied up. Camille tells Juliette that people obey her even when they don’t agree. That will be useful in the transition. Juliette tells Camille that she’s not gonna help her. Even if she did, she’d kill her anyone. That’s her plan. She’s just gonna get rid of anyone who helps her. Camille tells Juliette that just her. Juliette figures Camille is still angry she went into her home. Camille reminds Juliette that she let her go. Juliette says she remembers it.
Camille thinks even if they take Juliette’s memories again, she has no doubt they would still find their way back to this exact same moment Because she doesn’t ever quit. Camille asks the guard to check Juliette’s left sleeve. Camille finds a safety pin from Juliette. She tells Juliette that she will die. Everyone else gets to live. She will even make sure she’s remembered as a hero. Camille asks the guard to get Juliette ready for the cleaning. Bring her husband to their apartment.
Shirley and Knox run into Knox’s father Gus. Shirley tells Gus that she heard about him. He tells her that whatever she heard from Knox, he’s not wrong. He takes them away.
At Camille’s apartment, Robert tells Camille that he knows she’s upset with him for keeping Bernard alive. It wasn’t an easy choice. He loves her more than she knows. But he also loves their son. She was asking him to go along with taking his memories. Who will he be after that? Who would they be? He has no regrets. She says he talks about protecting their son, but he and Bernard put every single person at risk. Before long all Anthony will know about him is what she tells him. He asks the guard to bring Robert up in 15 minutes. She leaves the apartment.
Camille throws Juliette into Bernard’s cell. Camille tells Bernard that she’s not taking a chance. He will go out without a suit. Juliette thinks Camille cannot do that. She knows that’s against the Pact. But Bernard says it’s actually not. And a suit wouldn’t change much anyway. The guard reports to Camille that Billings is here. Camille goes to see Billings.
Juliette asks Bernard did he actually say he wanna go out or did some jerk pretend to hear it? He has drawn a record-side crowd. He laughs. He mentions he said that to her. In his case, it’s the perk of being hated by every man, woman, child, and sanctioned pet. She asks him why did he turn himself in? He says he did it to give Walker and her friends a distraction.
She mentions Camille forced her to send Knox and Shirley away. She had guns pointed at them. She was gonna kill them. She had no choice. It didn’t work. Bernard tells Juliette that it’s not over. She says he’s being sent out to die. She’s still the mayor. Camille wants her to help her. Once the drugs set in. So she wants her to be there. She wants her to make a deal with her. And she said no. But maybe she can.
Bernard stops Juliette. He reminds her that she wants to keep fighting. She says yes. He says good. Because he still is. She asks him how is this fighting? He says all eyes will be on him. Three months ago, her friends pulled off a rebellion in her name. Since then he has seen who they are, what they can do. He was able to be a part of it. He has never had that in his life. The power that her people have. what they’re capable of. Given an opportunity, given a chance. His death is a chance. They won’t waste it. Trust them.
She says it’s not about not trusting them. But she could still find a way. He asks her what choice do they have? The most important thing he can leave her with is this. That voice in the wall he always thought it was a machine. An entity of some kind. A higher intelligence. It’s not. Somewhere in Silo 1 is a person. Flesh and blood. No different or better than her or him. A person deciding their fates. Turns out, after all this, the wizard is nothing more than a man behind a curtain. And if that man were in this room right now, he’d kill him with his bare hands. But he won’t get that chance. But she can stop them. She’s the one their numbers missed. He knows she doesn’t want to be a leader, so she doesn’t see this. But she’s more than a disrupter. She’s a unifier. Her team proves that. They believe in her. And he believes in her. There’s one last thing on his mind. All the questions he won’t see answered. They all come down to just one question.
Camille comes back. Bernard is taken out of the cell. Juliette asks him does he have any last words? He shakes hands with Robert. Billings opens the gate of the Silo. Bernard walks out of the Silo. The people watch him in the cafeteria. The woman wonders why isn’t Bernard wearing a suit? Bernard dies under a tree.
Juliette tells Camille that Bernard said everything that they don’t know about the silos can be answered in one question. Juliette thinks it’s as simple as, “Why?” They keep asking the same questions over and over again. Why were the silos built? Why do people have to go into them? Why couldn’t the silos communicate with each other? And if the Founders cared so much, why would they put in a Safeguard to be able to kill them?
Camille thinks Maybe they aren’t meant to know the answers. A loud bang. Billings asks everyone to stay calm. He says they will figure out what’s going on. Camille realizes that Juliette planned it. Juliette denies it. He says she was in custody all day.
In the mines, Harwood detonates the explosives. Another loud bang in the cafeteria. Camille is furious to tell Juliette that her friends may have just killed them all. She runs out of the cafeteria.
It flashes back. Daniel accompanies Helen to have a prenatal checkup at the hospital. The doctor tells the two that the baby is healthy. Daniel feels so real now. Helen isn’t happy. She asks the doctor to give the guy the constant peeing, and the back pain and leg cramps and swelling. The doctor says if she could, half the world would love her and the other half would hate her. Daniel asks the doctor can his wife fly? She says Helen is almost at the cutoff point, but this weekend should be fine.
She asks the two where are they off to? Daniel says Atlanta. The doctor figures the Stensen thing. She guesses they won a golden ticket to the chocolate factory. She had a few friends that applied for that but couldn’t get it. She asks them do them know him? Helen says they met him once. The doctor asks Helen did they have to sign NDAs? He’s famous for making people sign NDAs.
Daniel and Helen visit Charlotte. Charlotte is very happy after she saw Helen. She gives her a hug. She thanks Daniel for making the trip. Anna walks out of the home. She welcomes Daniel and Helen. She hopes they like takeout. Someone forgot to defrost the chicken. Charlotte blames Anna for exposing her. Anna claims that she didn’t say who that someone was. Daniel gives the wine to Anna. Anna leads the guests into the house.
The people have dinner in the house. Charlotte asks Daniel about the bridges in Portland. He says they’re keeping him busy. They’re looking to retrofit the Burnside, which is a beautiful old Bascule bridge from 19. He mentions she drives a drone for a trillionaire. He asks her how’s that? She says it’s a job. But she refuses to leak the details. She asks Helen about The Oregonian instead. Helen says understaffed, budget cuts, dwindling subscriptions.
Charlotte asks Helen and Daniel have they picked out a name yet? Daniel says Daniel Keene II. Charlotte doesn’t like the name. Helen laughs. She asks Charlotte and Anna do they have any plans? She thinks they both look really happy. Daniel wishes his parents could see Charlotte. If they were alive right now. But Charlotte says they’d be clawing frantically to get out of their coffins. Helen says it’s a sickness. It’s so dark.
Anna tells Daniel and Helen that they’re glad they came. Helen says they almost didn’t. Daniel thinks Anna’s mother is still mad at them. He asks Anna is she? She says if she asks to speak with him, it usually means she wants to bury the hatchet. They will never know. Helen asks Anna and Charlotte are they ready for the big unveiling? Anna says the light’s finally at the end of the tunnel. Charlotte says except it’s not daylight, it’s a train.
She apologizes to Anna. She says tomorrow’s gonna be amazing. Her mother is gonna be thrilled. She comforts her that when it’s all over, they can finally go on a real honeymoon. She gets one extra museum. Because she was mean. Daniel asks Charlotte could they go back like 30 seconds? She says yes. He mentions she said she’s sorry. Anna thinks it’s very rare. Daniel says he never hears any apology. Charlotte tells Daniel that she’s not gonna apologize when she shoves the hot pepper down his throat. He takes over the hot pepper from her. He eats it.
Daniel washes dishes in the kitchen after the dinner. Anna volunteers to do it. He tells her that Keene family rule. Whoever makes dinner gets the rest of the night off. She says she drove to get takeout. Just let her. He asks her is she afraid he’s gonna do it wrong? She laughs. He lets her do it. He apologizes to her they didn’t make it back when she was sick. She says he sent enough flowers to fill three funeral homes. He confesses it to her that that’s not what they. She mentions Helen was newly pregnant and dealing with her father. He agrees with what she said. He thinks he could’ve come. He doesn’t know he left his wife alone.
Anna tells Daniel that even Charlotte doesn’t think he’s that much of a jerk. Fought it before, fought it again. She had Charlotte with her, and her mother, and Henry. Daniel thinks if Henry was there, it’s a problem. She claims that she has known Henry since she was 12 years old. He performs a very important service. He comes in after her mother visits and, like, sweeps up the emotional debris. Anyway, she’s fine now. She’s grateful actually. For Charlotte, not the cancer. The day they were married, she didn’t think she could love her more. And then this winter. It wasn’t even that she took care of her, which she did. It was that. So, when she was getting treatment, Charlotte would go to the floor below and see the kids in the chairs. She’s got some rough edges, his sister, the Navy thing and all that.
Anna wipes off her tears. She says Charlotte would, like, try and rein it in, but she would just wind up swearing like a sailor. Anna knew Charlotte is one tough lady. But, man, she’s kind.
Helen and Charlotte drink in the yard when they sit in the chairs. Charlotte says it’s wild. They’re actually letting people into the silos tomorrow. And by people, she means civilian swine, like Helen. Helen got it. She thanks Charlotte. She says she’s just glad she finally gets to talk about it. Charlotte knows those NDAs suck. But she couldn’t tell Helen much. Helen mentions signing those NDAs got them the nicest home in West Slope. Charlotte says got them the Craftsman in Morningside. It’s been nuts last six months. The second Anna’s cancer treatment was done, she was back to all silos all the time.
Charlotte asks Helen has she heard of the Pact? Helen denies it. Charlotte reveals it’s some crazy thing Anna and Dr. C wrote. Helen doesn’t know who’s Dr. C. Charlotte explains it to Helen that the guy is Victor. So, it’s a book of rules about how to live underground for 500 years without killing each other. Charlotte tells Helen that she said it was crazy. So in the fact that Stensen got the silos operational in three years. People are living there right now. She’s not complaining. Anna and her get to work together and come back home every night. Kind of reminds her of where Daniel and she grew up. Sometimes it kind of feels like someone else’s story, but it’s good enough.
Anna walks out of the house. She tells Helen that her husband wants to leave. Helen guesses Daniel said it’s past her bedtime. He helps her wear the coat. He asks Charlotte and Anna do they have time for breakfast tomorrow? Charlotte says sure. Anna doesn’t know. She says they might have to go over early. Charlotte thought everything was figured out. She asks Daniel and Helen to get pecan sticky from Star Market. Daniel and Helen leave. Anna isn’t happy.
The next day, Daniel and Helen go to the silos. They hold each other’s hands. He asks her about her number. She says eighteen. He says he’s one. They go to the 18 Silo. They run into Henry. Henry tells the two that they both are glowing. Helen thanks Henry. He says they weren’t sure they were gonna make it. She says she had to see how it all turned out. His advice is don’t take the full tour. It’s a lot of stairs and no elevators. She heard a rumor about that. He says something about people getting enough exercise. Not his department. He wants to borrow Daniel. The senator wants a word with him.
Daniel says he’d love to see Charlotte. Henry reveals Charlotte is at Silo 1 with Anna and the senators. Daniel asks Henry can Helen come? Henry says it’s a pretty long walk. Helen refuses to go to Silo 1. She asks Daniel to go see Charlotte alone. She wanna take the tour. Henry comforts her that they’re gonna feed her in there. And when they’re done, come on over to Silo 1. And the senator’s gonna make a speech. The senator swears it’s gonna be short. There’s music and fireworks later. Daniel tells his wife that he will come find her. He kisses her hand. He leaves with Henry.
Silo tour begins. Helen joins the people when Everett is giving a speech. He says he’s one of their tour guides for today. She tells Samantha that she’s assigned to 17. She asks him how did he know her name? He points at his glasses. He says augmented reality glasses. They pull up all of her info from the RFID in her badge. Samantha walks away. Helen asks Everett what if they’re using someone else’s badge? He tells her that these also come with facial recognition.
Rachel will take the next 20 people. But, if they’re one of the ones he greeted then follow him. Helen follows Everett. She asks him where is he from? He says Hoddesdon. It’s a small town just outside of London that even Londoners have never heard of.
The guy takes photos of Daniel. He recognizes him. The guy is Victor. He gives Daniel a hug. Henry reminds Victor that the senator wants to talk to Daniel. Victor says he will get Daniel there. Henry walks away. Victor mentions Charlotte tells him Daniel is gonna be a father. Daniel says he’s terrified. But Victor tells Daniel that he’s gonna be great. Daniel says the silos are more than he imagined. Victor asks Daniel is he trying to figure out how they pulled it off? Maybe he’s wondering what it would’ve been like if he said yes. But Daniel says he made the right choice.
Victor says it’s one of the biggest engineering projects in the history of the world. Nothing wrong with thinking about the road not taken. They all do. He tells Daniel that for what it’s worth, could’ve used him. Daniel points out that Victor had plenty of great engineers. Victor agrees with what Daniel said. But he always felt that Daniel had a gift for seeing things other people missed. Daniel tells Victor that he was a little surprised when he heard he was still on the project. He thought a bunch of holes in the ground wouldn’t exactly require his skills.
Victor says he thought the same thing. But the more he was here working with Charlotte, the more he realized that, if these silos were ever to be used, it would be after a massive traumatic event, and a lot of people would need help. The more he dives into the whole project, the more he sees how much there’s to do when it comes to managing mass trauma.
Daniel thinks what Victor means is the Pact. Victor learns that Daniel heard about the Pact. He guesses Charlotte told him. Daniel mentions Victor and Anna writing a book about how to live together for 500 years. Victor confesses it to Daniel that AI did it. They just did some editing. He hopes they will never have to find out if they did a good job.
Everett tells Helen that millions of people from all around the world applied to join the project. Dr. Stensen made it his goal to have at least two people from every country on Earth. She figures it’s really Stensen’s Ark. They arrive at Silo 18. Everett tells the people that the Silo was built to withstand a 30 megaton nuclear explosion as close as two miles. The two big sliding doors each weigh 25 tons and can keep out particles as small as 50 nanometers. Helen raises her hand. She asks Everett how much did each Silo end up costing? He says Dr. Stensen plans on releasing official figures soon. She asks him is he one of the people who’s been living in here for the past year? He says yes. And he hasn’t gone insane? He doesn’t answer her the question.
He tells the people that they’re going to get in the silo. He promises them that whatever it is they think they’re gonna see, they’re not prepared. So follow him, mind their step. He asks Helen that at the risk of sounding overly protective, would she take his arm? She takes his arm. She walks into the silo with him.
Victor takes Daniel to Silo 1. The singer is singing a song. Daniel knows the singer is Peter Gabriel. He asks Victor how much did that cost? Victor says nothing. Peter and his family wanted to see inside a silo just like everybody else in the world. The silo is 17. The best one. Daniel asks Victor they’re not all the same? Victor laughs. He says they are all the same. It’s a Silo joke.
After the performance, Stensen shakes hands with Peter. He says that was fabulous. He asks him would he like to see Silo 17 before his performance tonight? Thurman sees Daniel. She tells him that he’s a sight for these poor old eyes. Being out of Washington looks good on him. He tells her that she looks good herself. She asks him why is it he’d hear from Anna about him being in town, but he never stopped in for tea? He explains it to her that he knew she was busy. He didn’t wanna interrupt. She agrees with what he said. She reveals it took a ton of work to get his all up and running.
Stensen sees Daniel. He tells him that they really could’ve used him on this. If they hadn’t followed his suggestion of 50 diggers, they’d have been five years behind schedule. Could’ve used that brain of his on all the other problems they had. Thurman says Per and she have to do a tech check. She asks Daniel to stick around. She wanna discuss something with him. He agrees.
Thurman and Per leave. Anna shows up. She apologizes to Daniel for the breakfast. He says they will do it tomorrow. He asks her is everything okay? She says yes. He asks her where’s Charlotte? She says she doesn’t know. The last she saw, Charlotte was in the cafeteria finishing off a mocha. So she guesses she’ll be out soon.

Thurman gives a speech. She says the project is meant to safeguard all of them regardless of color, creed or nationhood. Daniel leaves the meeting. He calls Helen. He worries about her. But she doesn’t pick up his phone. Henry tells Daniel that he has to come back. Daniel asks Henry where’s silo 18. Henry tells Daniel that he will take him there later. Daniel steps back when Henry tries to drag him. Helen walks out of Silo 18. The staff tells her that it’s time to head in for dinner. Helen rejects it.
Daniel walks on the mountain top. Helen calls him. She asks him where is he? He says Silo 1. Top of the berm. He asks her to get to that raised area around her Silo. The signal might be better. She agrees. She says the Silo is so weird. It’s so deep she cannot see the bottom and there really aren’t any elevators. She’s going to come to Silo 1. She asks him to stay there. But he says he’s coming to 18. He got a text from Charlotte. He doesn’t think Charlotte wrote it. He doesn’t know who wrote it. She walks on the top of the berm. She sees him. They wave at each other. Helen is very happy. But the nuclear bomb explodes in front of them. Henry takes Daniel into Silo 1 when Daniel wants to go to save Helen.
