Coco wakes up in the flying carriage in Witch Hat Atelier episode 2. She notices that Qifrey is next to her. He reveals he summoned the carriage. He thinks she’s cold in the sky because she only wears pajamas. He tells her that they’re going to arrive his atelier. He points at the atelier. It’s her school as well.
The School of The Grassland

Qifrey and Coco are on the way to the atelier. Qifrey tells Coco that he planted the seeds to guard her house. It will grow up soon, working as a barrier. After all, her house was petrified by an unknown magic. They shouldn’t let anyone approach the house. He tries to get into the atelier. But he notices that she’s not well. So he asks her what happened. She brings up that she promised not to leave her mother all alone. She tears up. He hugs her. He tells her that she doesn’t have to feel guilty. Because she didn’t want to make the mistake.
He takes her into the atelier. He persuades her to look ahead after she cried. She needs to live in the atelier starting today. He hands over the water magic to her. She’s surprised that water is plump and floating in the air. But he doesn’t answer her the question. He goes to take a piece of clothing for her so that she can get changed. She chases him to the stairs. She asks him how to use the stuff. But he walks away. She doesn’t dare to touch the unfamiliar magic.
The girl shows up. She tells Coco that she doesn’t have to be afraid of the magic. The magic isn’t hard to be handled. The girl is Tetia. She asks Coco if she wants her to teach her. She jumps in front of her. She tells her that it’s called Floating Water Drop. It’s the magic that sucks water from air. She takes over the magic. She asks Coco to reach out her hands to her. She tilts the magic. She pours the water into her hands. Coco thinks it’s amazing when she looks at the water. She thanks Tetia. Tetia is very happy to thank Coco. Because she likes to hear someone thanking her.
Another girl shows up. She suggests that Coco should ignore Tetia if Tetia is annoyed. Tetia will fall silent as long as Coco ignores her. Tetia blames the girl Richeh. She claims that she was just teaching Coco. Coco notices the inks and pens on the plate that Richeh is holding. She realizes that the two are witches. Tetia reveals they’re Qifrey’s students. She’s surprised that Coco isn’t a witch. She thought she was an intern like them. Coco smiles. She thinks she’s not an intern. After all, it was her first time to draw magic yesterday.
Tetia is shocked after knowing Coco was the girl. She and Richeh heard the rumor that the uninformed person used the Forbidden Magic. Her memory was erased. She even became a disciple.
Qifrey shows up behind Coco. He asks her if she’s fine. He can tell that those witches has introduced themselves. He asks Tetia and Richeh to return to their room since they have done the housework. He hands over the clothes to Coco. He tells her that everyone wears it. She doesn’t have to be afraid. Because he will explain it.
Coco gets changed. Qifrey tells her that magic wasn’t special a long time ago. As long as combine specific patterns and specialty ink, anyone can use it. But wars break out one after another because of the reason. As long as possessing omnipotent power, people will stop at nothing. Many terrifying spells were drawn. The few who still have a conscience. Join the alliance and become withes, going against wars, erase people’s memories of magic. Only teaching it to the disciples who can keep the secret. It’s The Day of the Alliance. It promotes people to think that magic can only be used by special people. Once the truth spreads in the world, it will plunge into chaos again.
Qifrey apologizes to Coco for spreading her case. But she thinks it was her fault. She asks him about the Forbidden Magic. He reveals the magic was drawn in times of war. It was forbidden on The Day of the Alliance. It’s the magic that’s used to hurt people. She asks him to tell her all the magics that cannot be used. She thinks she will be hesitant and timid if she doesn’t know it.
He asks her to follow him. He tells her that there’re many forbidden magics in the world. But it’s very easy to be concluded. She cannot use the magics on human. For example, transformation or change age. Teleportation that doesn’t use door or means of transportation. Manipulating thoughts and emotions. Harm the body, heal the body. But there is one exception. That’s the Magic of Erasing Memories. Most of the magics are used on items like carriages and lamps.
He makes a lamp and a window. She sees a lake through the window. She mentions just a moment ago, there was just a small hill nearby. He says that it’s Window of the Door. It connects to another window of the same design. He points at the building in the distance. It’s The Tower of Books. The tower preserves knowledge and all books related to magic. She realizes that the picture book was recorded in the tower. She wants to go to the tower immediately. She swears to find the picture book even if she doesn’t sleep. But the sea beasts close the window.
Qifrey tells Coco that it was the trial of the Librarians. The tower is guarded by four Librarians. Only the witches who pass the trial can get into the tower. Coco needs to study first if she wants to get into the tower. He was very happy after he heard that she wanted to know it. It’s normal that she feels terrified. But the ones that have been passed down are the magic of happiness. He wishes she learns the gentle magic more. She’s happy to agree.
Qifrey takes Coco to her room. He knocks at the door. But the person in the room doesn’t answer him. He learns that Agott isn’t there. Agott is Coco’s roommate. Qifrey opens the door of the room. Coco gets into the room. He asks her to take a break in the room. She can visit him if there’s a problem. He leaves her room. He talks with someone over the phone. He thanks him for letting him take Coco as a disciple. The kid is a little confused. So he doesn’t resolve the picture book.
Coco looks at the books in the room. She thinks it’s a witch’s room. She tries to touch the pen. But Agott claims that it’s her table. Coco looks up. She finds out that Agott is in the air. She asks Coco to move aside. Because she needs to go down. Coco moves aside. Agott lands on the floor like a gust of wind. Coco tries to introduce herself to Agott. But Agott has known that Coco is the uninformed person. She heard that she was going to be their new junior. She feels sorry about what happened to her mother. Coco thanks Agott. But Agott thinks it was Coco’s fault to make her mother not being able to return to the human world. Coco claims that she came to the place for saving her mother. She wants to be a witch.
Agott shows his five fingers to her. She reveals she kept drawing magic circle ever since she was old enough to understand. Her fingertips were blackened. She passed the trial, and she became an intern. Only in this way she could be accepted as a novice disciple. Coco is an ordinary person who knows nothing. She cannot make it as an uninformed person. Coco disagrees. She claims that she could draw the magic when she just gave it a try. She thinks nobody knows it before she tries it. But Agott asks Coco to prove it. Tetia interrupts Agott. She tells her and Coco that it’s time to eat. Her stomach is growling. She’s hungry. Richeh tells Tetia that she’s hungry as well. Tetia is excited to offer to throw a welcome party for Coco.
In the evening, the three girls sit at the table. Richeh takes a look at the food. She complains that it’s just like usual. Tetia asks Qifrey about the welcome party. He promises her that he will prepare welcome party next time. He asks her about Agott. Tetia reveals the girl wanted to eat in the room. He wishes the girls eat together. He asks Coco to give an order to eat.
Coco tastes the bread. She finds out that it’s delicious. Richeh reveals the master was a celebrity chef. Coco returns to her room to sleep after the dinner. She misses her mother.
The next day, Coco reads the book in her room. She learns that she needs to pass the trial if she wants to be a disciple. But the book doesn’t tell her what she’s going to do. Qifrey shows up behind her suddenly. It startles her. He says that all sorts of magical things weren’t written in the book. He thinks she should touch the magical items first. He hands over the magical items to her. She’s excited when she takes the pen. But she’s afraid of it. But she wants to heal her mother. She asks him to help her.
Qifrey teaches Coco. He asks her to explain the content that she understood. She says that magic consists of three elements. The Pattern is in the center. The lines drawn around it are Arrow. The circle enclosing both is called Formation. Types of Patterns include Fire, Water, Light and Wind. It will determine the types of magic. Arrow determines what form magic manifests. Finally, close the formation with a circle. Magic will happen.

She says that this kind of thing isn’t something to be seen in public. The artwork is poor, the lines are crooked. He thinks it’s reasonable. Because she’s a rookie. He points at the drawing. He reminds her that the formation disconnects. The spell won’t cast. He thinks she felt out of practice because she used a new pen. He tells her that she was like a little horse who stood for the first time. She will get used to it soon. He asks her to connect the lines, trying to launch it.
