Qifrey arrives at The Great Hall of Witches in Witch Hat Atelier episode 3. He uses wind magic to go down. Someone hits his back with a wand. It makes him fall down. She complains it to him that nobody took the stairs. She thinks he hasn’t been to the the seabed in a long time. He’s the problem child of The Great Hall of Witches. The witch Alaira shows up. Qifrey tells the lady that that’s all in the past now. But she doesn’t think so. She helps him up. She heard that he did something truly remarkable.
The Dadah Range Test

Alaira mentions Qifrey’s new disciple. He’s surprised that she knew it so fast. He thinks the rumor spread like wildfire. She points out that the case is related to those guys. The Brimmed Caps. It’s been four years that nobody used the Forbidden Magic. Coco is a key lead. He claims that it wasn’t because of the reason. Coco doesn’t accept test. So she’s not his official disciple. Alaira is surprised that Coco doesn’t do it. Qifrey thinks it’s too early. Plus, the timing isn’t right. She agrees with what he said. The Dadah Range reaches its highest elevation of the year. Qifrey cannot let the girl accept the test at a time like this. After all, it’s a matter of life and death.
In the Atelier, Coco is going to accept the test. She hesitates. Because the master isn’t there. Agott tells Coco that it’s a personal challenge no matter when she accepts the test. Coco points out that she just came to the atelier. But Agott says that she passed the test when she was ten years old. Everyone would accept test to become a disciple. The first test is Consent of the Crown. Coco can only take three magical artifacts and materials. She cannot rely on the help of others. Climb to the top of the mountain. Taking back the Crown Grass that grows on the mountain top.
Agott puts the Guidance Orb into Coco’s hand. The Guidance Orb can navigate to the destination. She then gives her the Floating Water Drop that she can drink. She thinks she can only handle them. She opens the window when she puts the items into her bag. But Coco asks for a pair of shoes. She guesses Agott’s shoes are a magic artifact as well. She remembers Agott and Qifrey’s soles would light up when they flied. She asks Agott to lend the shoes to her. She realizes that she was shameless. She apologizes to her. She asks her to forget what she said. But Agott takes off her shoes. She lends it to Coco. She pushes her out of the window.
Agott mentions what she told Coco that she can only accept the test one time. If she doesn’t pass, she cannot be accepted as Qifrey’s disciple. She has to leave the atelier.
Coco feels uneasy after Agott left. But she needs to fight. Because she has no way out. She looks at the Guidance Orb. She wonders how to use it. The orb shows her the way. The girl begin to run. She thinks she just goes hiking. She trips. She gets up soon. She tells herself that she can do it. She remembers what Agott said that she passed when she was ten years old. But she bumps the spider web.
Coco walks out of the forest. She sees some grass balls in the air. She realizes that it’s Dadah Range. Guidance Orb points upward. She doesn’t expect that the place floats in the air. She sees a dragonfly flying by. She lifts her legs. She looks at the shoes she borrowed from Agott. She tries to fly. But she’s blown over by the wind. She checks the shoes. She finds out that the formation splits in two. She needs to align the formation precisely. She floats up. But she cannot keep her balance. She falls into the grass.
Coco remembers what Qifrey said that she was the little horse who just learned to walk. But she flied. She thinks she can reach the mountain top easily since she can fly. But she fails.
In The Great Hall of Witches, Qifrey hands over the application to the witch. Alaira points out that Qifrey doesn’t have to brought the application if he lives in The Great Hall of Witches. She thinks he should have taken the disciple there. The Great Hall is the headquarters of witches. Everything he needs is there. But he wants to come when he must. She realizes that he has a deep-seated grudge to The Great Hall. She reminds him that he should keep an eye on his disciples. The kid at the age can do anything when the adult isn’t there.
In Dadah Range, Coco floats in the air. She’s much more balanced than before. She thinks she can fly a little higher. She flies on the grass ball. But she slides down. Fortunately, she grabs a vine. So she doesn’t fall on the ground. But the Brushbuddy shows up. He hits the girl with his tail. She falls into the water. Brushbuddy manages to stay on the Guidance Orb. He doesn’t fall into the water.
Brushbuddy follows Coco to shore. Coco shakes the mud out of her shoe. She wipes the sole with her handkerchief. She discovers that the formation blurs. She decides to draw it again. But the ink spilled into the sea. She thinks she’s over.
In the Atelier, Tetia is looking for Coco. She asks Agott if she saw the girl. She mentions the dinner is almost ready. Agott tells Tetia that Coco went to Dadah Range to accept the test. Tetia is shocked. She mentions Coco just came to the atelier. She thinks Agott should have stopped the girl. Agott points out that Coco should have accepted the test before she came to the atelier. Tetia agrees with what Agott said. If Coco cannot pass the simple test, she shouldn’t be a disciple of Qifrey. Agott hates the person who cannot do it that she could do. She thinks she won’t get any benefits from it if she stays with the person. Not to mention that Coco is an uninformed person.
Agott comforts Tetia that Coco won’t dare to take on the challenge. The girl will come back. Dadah Range during this period reaches the highest point throughout the year. Coco cannot fly that high with Agott’s shoes. The outsider who doesn’t know the rules and has no sense of urgency. Agott doesn’t want her to enter their world.
Tetia has dinner with Richeh. But Tetia doesn’t eat. She feels very down. Richeh goes to take another bowl of rice. Tetia complains that only she worries about Coco. Richeh points out that they have to wait for Qifrey even if they worry about Coco.
In Dadah Range, Coco is on the boat. She fails to reach the Grass Ball. Although she used the last bit of ink to draw the formation, she couldn’t float. She plans to draw on the sole of her foot. But she gives up the mind. Because it’s a Forbidden Magic if she draws on the body. She realizes that Agott was right that not everyone could draw well. She thinks only the individuals with special qualifications can become witches. Agott and the girls kept practicing drawing magic since childhood. Coco thinks she cannot make it.
She remember her mother taught her to cut fabric when she was a kid. Qifrey thought her skill was like a magic. Coco comes up with her magic. She draws a formation on the cape. She turns the cape into a mast. She tells Brushbuddy that the formation is ugly. Pattern should be at the center if it’s the correct way to draw it. Arrow should also be evenly distributed around the edges. But someone told her that uneven lengths of Arrows will also increase the force. So she intended to only draw an extremely long Arrow. She doesn’t know if she will succeed.
Brushbuddy gets into Coco’s clothes. She realizes that the animal wants to join her. She connects the formation. Air rises from the sea surface. Coco mistakes that she drew the Arrow wrong. The boat moves forward. It’s broken. Coco grabs the mast when she flies in the sky. She learns that she makes it with her own magic. It’s the real flying cape. It’s like a dream. She learned the skill when she helped her mother. She’s surprised that it helped with magic. She wipes off her tears.
Coco checks the Guidance Orb. She finds out that she needs to fly up to get the Crown Grass. She sees the Crown Grasses. She tries to take one. But she fails. She remembers her mother who took care of her after she was born. She tells her mother that she will take duty for what she did. She picks one of the Crown Grasses.
Qifrey returns to the atelier. Tetia reports to the master that Coco went to Dadah Range to accept test alone. He thinks it’s too dangerous. He has to stop Coco. Tetia points out that Coco will be disqualified if she quits. He thinks it’s too early that the girl accepts the test. She’s different from them who learned magic since childhood. What he will lose isn’t the kid if something bad happens to Coco. He opens the window. But Coco comes back with the Crown Grass. Tetia cries to run to Coco after knowing her friend is fine. She hugs her. She tells her that they worried about her very much. But Coco runs to Agott. She tells her that she took back the Consent of the Crown. She shows her the Crown Grass. She thinks she proved it.
Agott doesn’t say anything. She walks away. Qifrey tells Coco that it’s very dangerous to use magic if she doesn’t prepare well. He thinks she should have known it early. She would die even if she just made a mistake. He asks her not to do something like that again. She apologizes to him. He tells her that she’s his disciple even if she doesn’t risk her life to prove it. He hands over a box to her. She wears the witch robe. He tells her that the proof of witch is an honor. It’s also a shackle. As long as she wears the hat, she shouldn’t forget the heaviness. The magic hat will keep watch her magic. He asks her to cherish it. She smiles to agree. Outside the Atelier, the Brimmed Cap Iguin watches Coco. He thinks the seed has sprouted.
