In the room, the coroner Joel is taking care of the bodies in Dark Matter Season 2 episode 1. An agent shows up with Joel’s boss. He shows Joel his badge. He wants to check the bodies. Joel lifts the clothes one by one. The agent sees the bodies.
The policewoman meets the suspect. The suspect asks her is it illegal to look like dead people? Someone knocks at the door. The chief police shows up with the cop. He asks the policewomen Keller and Mason to leave with him. She doesn’t understand why she should leave. The chief police introduces the agent Mitchel MacNamara to Keller. It’s Mitchel’s case now.
Mitchel tells the two policewomen that it’s not personal. He’s sure they’re excellent detectives. They leave the room. Mitchel unties the suspect Jason Dessen. He agrees with what he said that it’s not illegal to look like a bunch of dead people. Jason asks Mitchel is he not under arrested? But Mitchel says he didn’t have time to familiarize himself.
He checks the papers. He asks Jason Can this be right? Thirteen Jason Dessens? All with the same fingerprints, blood type, DNA. That’s curious. Jason thinks Mitchel cannot get DNA that fast. But Mitchel says they did it. He hands over the report to Jason. Jason takes a look at the report. He says this could be faked. So Mitchel gives Jason some papers. He asks him if that fake? He tells him that he’s operating off the wrong assumption.
He says black sites, that’s where he normally works. They’re effective. How did they do it? They knew they were close on cloning. But setting up a full cell. In Chicago. That’s ballsy. And this Jason Dessen background is perfect. How did they age him? Mitchel tells Jason that he doesn’t mean to be impatient, but he had a brutal extraction process, then a 13-hour flight in the back of a C-17 to get here, so it’s kinda his moment. He got two other Jasons in custody. The first one to prove how useful they can be stays off his autopsy table.
Mitchel threatens Jason that he will cut them all open. Jason tells Mitchel that he doesn’t have all the answers that he wants. But he can help him find the man that does. He gives the Jason’s photo to Mitchel. He says he’s the one responsible for all of this. He will help him.
A house in the forest, Daniela wakes up in the bed. She asks Jason 01 why isn’t he in bed? She doesn’t wanna get up. He tells her that she doesn’t have to. He just gotta go in early. These guys are rushing to get the house dried in. She worries about her coffee. He approaches her. He tells her that he happens to have some brewing as they speak. She laughs, and she holds his face. She tells him that he’s an actual angel. He kisses her, and he leaves the bedroom.
She gets up and she wears her coat. She opens the drawer. We see a gun. She takes the socks. She wears it. He comes back. He hands over the coffee to her. He asks her what does she have going on today? She says the office is closed, so she thought she might get started on the roof. She got some shingles the other day. He offers to do it together this weekend. She mentions he said that the last two weeks. And it was raining in their bedroom last night. He asks her not to go climbing up the roof. She agrees. She wants him to come home early so that she doesn’t have to. He thinks he can do that.
Daniela burns the woods in the house. Jason 02 shows up. He tells her that the roof isn’t safe. She notices the ring he wears. He tries to conceal the ring. She guesses he’s hungry. She cooks sandwich, and she gives it to him. He eats the sandwich. She goes to get him some water. He’s close to her. He says that first night was like worlds colliding when she looked at him. He asks her does she remember? It was like no one had ever seen him before until that moment. He was with her. That night in the loft he married her. And he held Max with her that night in the hospital when his little heart stopped beating.
He was with her every single night and day of their messy beautiful life. Till that night when he kissed her goodbye, and that monster just stole it from him. He found her. She tells him that they cannot solve this. But he thinks they can. She says she made a choice. He asks her to make a different choice. She can stay in the house. Charlie doesn’t even have to know. He can take care of everything. But she asks him to go.
He says she’s his wife. That is his child. She runs into her bedroom. She takes the gun. She points it at him. He asks her does he mean nothing to her? He refuses to leave, and he approaches her. She shoots him. He dies on the floor.
Jason 01 shows up. Daniela is startled to point her gun at him. She asks him to tell her the safe word. He says patience. She drops her gun. She puts it on the table. They work together to carry Jason 01 out of the house. They put him at the glass house. Daniela asks Jason 01 if he thinks they can stay. Jason 01 says Jason 02 isn’t from this world. No one’s gonna miss him. Let’s put him in the ground and get on with their lives. She says she will start on the bedroom. He will start on the hole.
Officer Jay Stringer shows up when Jason 01 is digging the hole. Jay asks Jason 01 what’s the hole for? Jason 01 says their dog died. They’re all pretty broken up about it. Jay reveals a couple of hours ago, they got a report about an abandoned vehicle at the gas station quarter mile up the road. They ran the plates and turns out this car was stolen in Chicago about five days ago. Among the items they found a notebook. A lot of weird stuff written inside.
So he came. On the last page is an address. Jason 01’s address. Jay asks Jason 01 does he have any idea why? Jason 01 says no. Jay asks Jason 01 does he own the property? Jason 01 says they rent. He tells Jay that his name is Bruce Cheney. He lies. Jay asks Jason 01 does he live out here with anybody else? Jason 01 says his wife and his son. Their names are Lynn and Aidan. Jay asks Jason 01 does Aidan go to school out here? Jason says Aidan is a senior. But he’s a good kid. So he doesn’t think he could have anything to do with it. Jay asks Jason 01 he got his ID on him?
Jason 01 says he has got it inside. Jay wants to take a peek at that, and then he’ll get out of Jason 01’s hair. Jason agrees. He puts down his shovel. Jay notices Jason 01’s wound on his hand. Jason 01 explains it to Jay that dog was hit by a car and they found him down by the road. He had to carry him inside. It was a lot of blood. Jay guesses Jason 01’s son taking it pretty hard. Jason 01 says they all are. His wallet’s in the truck. He asks Jay to come with him. But Jay sees Jason 02’s body.
Jay pulls out his gun. He points it at Jason 01. He asks him to raise his hands. He contacts the dispatch. Daniela runs out of the house with a gun. She asks Jay to get away from her husband. He turns his gun around, and he points it at her. Jason 01 catches the chance to grab Jay’s gun. He points the gun at Jay. The radio says that the police are going to come. Daniela realizes that they gotta go. Jason 01 agrees. He asks his wife to go to get the go bags. Get in the truck. He will meet her there.
Daniela returns to the house to take the bags. Jason 01 gets Jay to handcuff himself. He tells him that they’re not bad people. He takes away the notebook from his pocket.
Jason 01 runs to the truck. She gets in the truck. Daniela drives the truck. Charlie calls Jason 01. He asks him where they are. Jason 01 says they’re on their way. They arrive at the supermarket. Charlie is waiting for them. He doesn’t know how to take care of the groceries. Jason 01 tells his son to leave them. Charlie gets in the truck. He contacts his girlfriend. He doesn’t know when he will meet her.
In the evening, the family arrives at the building. Jason asks Charlie to follow them. But Charlie rejects it. He asks his parents why is there blood on mother’s clothes? Why are they leaving this world after seven months when it was good and working? He claims that he’s not taking a step towards the box until somebody tells him what’s going on. This is his life as well. He has the right to know the truth.
Daniela understands it. She tells her son that a version of his father found them. He came to the house, and she shot him. He’s dead. Jason 01 urges his wife that police came. They had to run. The three get in the box. They close the door.
A woman walks into the cafe to meet her friend. A guy walks to her. He tells her that he came to this world with one of those pendants too. People thought it was a Banksy. So some kids set up a video feed in case the artist returned. That’s her. He shows her the video that she’s in the video. He says a few days before Jason left her here, he did the same thing to him.
She lets him have a seat. She asks him is he friend with Jason Dessen? Is the Jason he knows married to Daniela? Taught physics at a small college? He says annoying scotch lover, terrible at dancing, worse at board games. That’s his best friend. She tells him that the Jason who left him here, is Jason 02. He’s not the one she came here with. She thinks she came here with his Jason. Jason 02 kidnapped his Jason so he could steal his life. The guy remembers he tried to get in the box, but Jason 02 closed the door.
Jason 01, Daniela and Charlie walk in the box. Jason 01 tells the two to focus on what they want. No other versions of them can live in Chicago. They cannot be famous. They cannot be criminals. Jason 01 opens the door. The wind is picking up. The bag rolls outside. Jason 01 and Daniela go to take the bag. But Charlie is locked in the box. Jason 01 and Daniela manage to open the door. They return to the box.
At the cafe, the woman tells the guy that Jason 02 just abandoned him here. He reveals Jason 02 said he wanted to take him, his very best friend, to a place he knew he’d love. Then he shut the door with him on the outside. It took him a minute just to understand this is real. He had nothing. He had the clothes on his back. Nowhere to go, obviously. But he figured if his sister Camilla is in this world, she’s gonna his safest option. But he didn’t calculate the situation properly. The Ryan Holder of this world died ten years ago.
It flashes back. The guy visits Camilla. He told her the truth. She believes him. She took him in. And to her, she’s got her brother just magically back. But for him, this isn’t right. Camilla just reminds him of everything he lost. So, it’s been really hard.
At present, the guy tells the woman that Camilla has a friend with a lab, so he spent every waking hour trying to recreate the drug that was used to bring him here. It’s called Lavender Wings. He calls it Lilac Wings. After months and months, he made something that he thinks works. He was finally going home to his life. But they moved the box. It’s like his house burned down and every person he has ever known died. But then he was sent to another planet. So he cannot even talk to anyone about it. She knows what he means. It’s because of Jason 02.
In the box, Daniela offers to ask for a world with a hotel, so they don’t have to spend the night in the box. Jason 01 agrees. She opens the door. The three go to the hotel. They get a suite. Daniela walks into the bathroom. She cries. She accompanies his son on the bed. She joins Jason 01 on the couch. He notices that she just cried. He asks her is she fine? She nods and she apologizes to him. But he thinks she doesn’t have to apologize. He hugs her.
The next day, Ryan Holder walks out of his room. He sees Camilla. She asks him if he wants to drink coffee. He rejects it. Because he’s going to go out. He asks her what does she got today? She says just meetings about stuff that could easily be emails. She asks about him. He says just a little more under-the-table chemistry work. Amanda is coming, and they’re gonna go to the unveiling at Millennium Park together. She asks him is this becoming a thing? He pretends not to know what she’s talking about. But she thinks he knows it. He says he was thinking the three of them could have dinner together. She loves it. He asks her to cook. Because he loves that.
At Millennium Park, Ryan and Amanda have a date. She says she broke up with the guy she was seeing. They struggled to understand each other’s needs. He asks her is that her clinical assessment? She laughs. She says finding someone here who she connects with has been harder than she expected. They see the box.
Jason 01, Daniela and Charlie leave the hotel. Daniela offers to go to look for a place with Wi-Fi. Look themselves up. But they’re recognized by the fox on the screen. Jason 01 takes his family into the warehouse. Charlie asks his father how does this ever get any better? Jason 01 says the last 24 hours have been brutal. They will find a safe place. He tells Charlie that as hard as all this is, they’re together, and that is what matters.
Charlie tells his father even if they find a perfect world, another one of him will find them. He knows it will happen. It will keep happening. They’ll never be safe. That box ruined everything. Daniela tells Charlie that she ruined it. They did find a quiet life. It was a good life. It’s her fault. Because she panicked when that Jason came. It’s not gonna happen again. He tells her that more will come. Jason 01 says unless he destroys the box. He says they find a world that works for them. Then he just kills the thing. They get in the box.
At Millennium Park, Ryan checks the box. He tells Amanda that the ten million-dollar question is if they take Lavender Wings now and step inside the box. She says this is miles away. Her guess is, it severed its quantum connection to the box prime power source. Now, it’s just a box. He learns that he’s stuck here forever. He offers to go eat. Camilla’s dying to meet her. They leave the Millennium Park. In the box, Jason 01 prays that they’re going to get a good life. He opens the door. He gets out of the box. He tells his wife that he has been here before. He doesn’t want to stay in the world. He returns to the box.
