The Witch Episode 2 Recap: Father’s Death

The misfortunes make people fear Mi-Jeong. They call her witch. She was a bright and sunny girl. But the fate is cruel to her. The bizarre cases always follow her. A bad boy cut off Mi-Jeong’s rubber band when she was a kid. But the bad boy fell into the sewer. There was a boy having a crush on her. He gave the flowers to her for showing his goodwill. But he was hit by the car soon.

Mi-Jeong thinks it’s just a coincidence. She doesn’t think it deeply. She gets into high school. The senior Ik-Jong she likes went to the college. He’s happy to give his notebook to her. He confesses his feelings to her that he will wait for her in the college. But he passes out.

Mi-Jeong thinks Ik-Jong was bitten by hornet. He recovers and he leaves the village going to the college. He hasn’t see her since then. There’s a rumor in the class that Ik-Jong was injured because he talked with Mi-Jeong. A boy Jung-Hwan interrupts the girls. He gives Mi-Jeong a box of milk. He explains it for her that Ik-Jong’s injury was just an accident. He thinks it’s not related to Mi-Jeong.

It’s Mi-Jeong’s birthday. Her father Jong-Soo doesn’t prepare any present for her. He gives her some money instead. He wishes her to buy her friends a meal. He tells her to make more friends. She tells a lie to him that she has friends in the school for making him not worry about her.

But the teasing of the fate doesn’t stop. There’re twelve boys having food poisoning when they’re in the class. The girls are fine. Da-Eun and the girls suspect Mi-Jeong. They believe that the poisoning case is related to Mi-Jeong. There’re many accidents in the school except the poisoning case. Most of the injured people are male students.

A rainy day, Jung-Hwan is thoughtful to take Mi-Jeong home. He takes courage to confess when they part. But she hears the thunders after he ran away. He’s hit by the lightning and he’s dead. Mi-Jeong feels guilty. She thinks Jung-Hwan wouldn’t encounter the doom when he didn’t hold an umbrella with her. She shoulders the heavy guilt since then.

She begins to fear to contact with people. The school organizes a trip. A boy Joo-Sung gives a drink to Mi-Jeong. He wants to confess his feelings to her. She stands up immediately and she interrupts him. She walks aside. But she sees him injured. The teacher carries him to the infirmary.

There’s a boy’s finger being cut in the art class. The boys who had accidents begin to avoid Mi-Jeong. The rumors about her spread in the school in a crazy way. Da-Eun tells everyone about Mi-Jeong’s mother passing away because of difficult birth. She thinks Mi-Jeong is an evil witch.

Sang-Ho thinks it’s unfair to Mi-Jeong. He comforts the girl that it was just an accident. But she ignores him. He has to ride his bike away. But the tragedy happens again. He’s killed by the falling wire soon. The case proves that Mi-Jeong is a witch. Everyone talks about it. They’re told not to approach Mi-Jeong otherwise they will be killed.

Mi-Jeong doesn’t have a place to stay in the school under such an environment. She drops out of the school and she locks herself in the room. Jong-Soo cannot accept that the outstanding daughter doesn’t go to the school. He goes to the school for knowing the truth. He asks Da-Eun about it. She reveals Mi-Jeong was given the title “Witch”.

Jong-Soo realizes that his daughter suffered a lot in the school. He takes away Mi-Jeong’s stuff and he runs into Dong-Jin before he leaves the school. Dong-Jin doesn’t believe Mi-Jeong is a witch. He tries to remove the slander from the bench. Jong-Soo learns that the boy is firm to take his daughter’s side. He’s toughed to cry. He asks him to remember the words he said. He wishes him to clear the name for Mi-Jeong.

Mi-Jeong still locks herself in the room. She wishes people to forget her. But the rumor spreads through the village. Jong-Soo feels sorry for his daughter. He goes to see the villagers who wronged Mi-Jeong. He has an argument with them. His heart is cut by knife when he thinks about that his daughter is surrounded by the rumors. He’s angry to tell everyone not to make rumors.

But those bag women continue to do what they did. Someone even reminds Dong-Jin’s mother Mi-Sook. She tells her to let Dong-Jin stay away from Mi-Jeong. Jong-Soo returns home. He sees Mi-Jeong feeding the stray cat. She asks him to buy some cat food. He goes to Dong-Jin’s family store to buy cat food. There’s no cat food in the store. But Mi-Sook gives the cat food Dong-Jin bought to Jong-Soo. She keeps a distance from Mi-Jeong’s family even if she pities the poor girl.

Da-Eun graduates. She puts a photo album and some flowers at the door of Mi-Jeong’s house. Dong-Jin wants to give his flowers to Mi-Jeong. But Mi-Jeong opens the door suddenly when he tries to walk forward. He’s scared to run away. Jong-Soo persuades Mi-Jeong to continue to study. He thinks she can go to college as long as she passes the test.

Jong-Soo wants to sell his house and the land after he harvests his potato. He plans to take his daughter to Seoul. Mi-Jeong has hope again after her father encouraged her. She takes the book and she begins to study. It’s the day of potato harvest.

Mi-Jeong doesn’t want her father to work hard alone. So she follows her father to the field. But the accident happens again. A viper appears when she’s working. Her ankle is bitten by the viper. She passes out. She wakes up and she finds out that her father passes out on the ground. He’s dying.

She realizes that her father sucked out the toxins for saving her. He’s poisoned because of it. She’s sad and she calls for help. Jong-Soo knows he cannot change her fate. He uses his last power to stop Mi-Jeong. He tells her to go to hospital. He thinks she will be a murderer if she’s found. She tells a lie to him that she will go home. She doesn’t want to let him know that the villagers has heard her cry. Jong-Soo passes away in Mi-Jeong’s arms. She becomes an orphan completely. People think Mi-Jeong is a witch who killed her father. She cannot stay in the village. Mi-Jeong leaves the village where gave her painful memories.
