We Are All Trying Here: Episode 5 Recap

Outside the base, Jin-Man punches Dong-Man in We Are All Trying Here episode 5. Mi-Ran witnesses it inside the base. She doesn’t know what to do. Gyeong-Se gets in the base. He asks his wife not to go out. But Hye-Jin goes out. She yells. She tries to stop those guys.

We Are All Trying Here Episode 5

Jin-Man and Dong-Man are thrown into the police cars. Hye-Jin confirms that Ki-Ri didn’t drink. They go to get a car. Gyeong-Se remembers Jin-Man beating Dong-Man. Mi-Ran has a seat with a bottle of beer. She remembers Dong-Man told Gyeong-Se that he should have written his scripts that way.

Eun-A enters the base. She asks Bartender where those guys went. He reveals the police came. She hands over an envelope of money to him. She tells him that it’s for fixing the window. She asks him to tell it to her if 200,000 won isn’t enough. Gyeong-Se realizes that Eun-A was the one who threw the stone. She admits it. He asks her why she did that. She says that she was bored.

At the police station, Dong-Man is nervous when the cop asks him about his job. Eun-A runs into the police station. She tells the cop that the guy is a film director. Dong-Man passes out after he heard the girl’s words. Ki-Ri takes Dong-Man to a hospital. He reports it to Hye-Jin that the hospital refused to accept Dong-Man. She asks him if he told the doctor that Dong-Man was beaten. He says that he did it. But Dong-Man refused to pretend to be unconscious.

In the car, Dong-Man confesses it to Ki-Ri that he didn’t pretend to be unconscious because he thought it was so embarrassing. Ki-Ri figures it out that Jin-Man didn’t beat Dong-Man hard enough. He blames Dong-Man for answering the nurse’s question right at the hospital. Seung-Tae offers to send Dong-Man home. He mentions what the doctor said that the guy was fine. But Dong-Man wants to vomit suddenly.

Dong-Man vomits on the street. Ki-Ri guesses the guy was full. Dong-Man notices that it’s snowing. Jun-Hwan hands over the water to Dong-Man. Dong-Man rinses his mouth. He feels better. So he stands up. His coin falls into the drain.

He tries to get the coin out of the drain. Jun-Hwan asks Dong-Man to leave with them. He promises him that he will give him 50,000 won. Hye-Jin calls Ki-Ri. She’s told that Dong-Man stays for 500 won. She’s furious to hit the table with a toy hammer in front of her husband.

In the car, Dong-Man gets the coin. He goes to the base. He asks Gyeong-Se to come out. Gyeong-Se walks out of the base. Dong-Man tells Gyeong-Se that he quits the Eight Club. It’s the group of the high-profile people. The club means nothing to him since he chose a life of giving up. He apologizes to him for sticking in the group. He tells him that he won. But he points out that he can kill a person when he’s serious. He just chose not to do that. He says that he cracked jokes to relax.

Gyeong-Se asks Dong-Man why he was mean to him. He only criticized his movies. It seems like he has a deep-seated grudge. He wants to know the reason. Dong-Man confesses it to Gyeong-Se that he liked Hye-Jin ever. But Gyeong-Se thinks it’s not the reason. Dong-Man tells the guy that he disliked him first. He asks him why he hated him so much.

Dong-Man quits the group chat. Yeong-Su reveals Dong-Man and Gyeong-Se were close. Dong-Man runs into Eun-A on the street. He covers his watch. They go to a cafe. He eats the bread. She brings up that he just ate. He says that he needs to be full again. Because he threw up everything. If he cannot prove himself with success, he uses breakdown to prove himself then. He’s proud that he ruined himself. She laughs. She tells him that he will be tried if he does it alone. She persuades him to let somebody teacher him. She will accompany him and watch him.

She notices that he blocked his watch again. He explains it to her that the watch is red sometimes when he’s in a great mood. He checked his watch when it was snowing. It showed lonely. He thought he liked lonely. He’s a person who’s prone to anxiety. So the watch is always red. He thinks it’s rude to the person across from him. If the watch hits the market, it will ruin all relationships. Thinking about the couple wears the watch. Saying love. But it’s not love.

She mentions those guys said that love wouldn’t appear. Because love is an abstract concept. It’s not a feeling. He agrees with what those guys said. He thinks love cannot be recognized. Because everyone has his own love. The word love always makes him feel discouraged. Everyone keeps saying love. So he thinks if he’s the only one who doesn’t understand love. He wonders what’s love. He thinks he can believe love since it won’t appear on the watch. He doesn’t have to cover it with his sleeve. He worried that the watch would show love. It’s like a malfunction. He thinks it’s possible that loving someone. Because they cannot control their feelings. Dong-Man and Eun-A leave the cafe. She allows him to send messages to her.

The next day, Dong-Man has breakfast with Jin-Man at home. He tells him that he was beaten by him isn’t because his fist is more harder. At Choi Film, Sang-Jin discovers that Eun-A is Jung-Hui’s daughter. He runs into Dong-Hyeon at the elevator. Dong-Hyeon has a bad feeling because Sang-Jin came to his company early in the morning. They get in the elevator. He tells him that he did a good job on the Official Statement. He asks him if he encountered other trouble.

Eun-A stops the elevator. Dong-Hyeon lets the girl in. He asks her if she didn’t go home last night. She says that she did it. He wants to know why she doesn’t get changed.

Sang-Jin follows Dong-Hyeon into the office. The girl tells Eun-A that it’s not a good thing that Sang-Jin came. She reveals the guy is the president of Jung-Hui’s company.

In Dong-Hyeon’s office, Dong-Hyeon asks Sang-Jin if he found Jung-Hui’s daughter. Sang-Jin says that he found the girl. Dong-Hyeon figures it out that Jung-Hui’s daughter was very angry. He wants to know the truth. He tells Sang-Jin that he makes him nervous. Sang-Jin says that Jung-Hui’s daughter wasn’t angry.

Eun-A reads Jung-Hui’s statement. Jung-Hui claims that she didn’t neglect her daughter. Sang-Jin leaves Dong-Hyeon’s office. Dong-Hyeon asks Sang-Jin to beg Jung-Hui’s daughter to forgive Jung-Hui. He should get on his knees to the girl if it doesn’t work.

Dong-Man reads his script at home. He calls Jun-Hwan. He tells him that Eun-A revised his script very well. He feels embarrassed. Jun-Hwan asks Dong-Man to come out. He will buy him a barbecue.

At the restaurant, Jun-Hwan tells Dong-Man that he wants to cast Mi-Ran. He worried that the lady would reject him. He couldn’t sleep all night. He sent a message to her. He asked her to read his script. She replied to him immediately. She asked for a meeting up. She wanted to see Dong-Man.

Dong-Man is surprised that Mi-Ran knows him. He thinks she doesn’t know who he is. But she said that she saw him fighting Gyeong-Se at the base. Dong-Man guesses the beauty has feelings for him. She must hate Gyeong-Se very much. If he spoke up that words that he prepared, she might have wanted to marry him. He wonders if she’s fine with Jung-Hui’s biological daughter. Jun-Hwan asks Dong-Man not to mention it when Mi-Ran comes. Dong-Man won’t do that. Because he’s not a fool.

Jae-Yeong enters the restaurant. Jun-Hwan shakes hands with Jae-Yeong. But Dong-Man isn’t happy after he saw the guy. He offers to change a restaurant. But Jun-Hwan goes against it. Because they made plans with her at the restaurant.

Dong-Man complains it to Jun-Hwan that the company who took Jae-Yeong’s script is an idiot. Jun-Hwan points out that it was Hye-Jin’s company. He reminds Dong-Man so that Dong-Man won’t offend some people in the future. But Dong-Man says that it’s fine. Because he’s not in the Eight Club anymore. Jae-Yeong badmouths Eun-A. He thinks she’s a terrible producer. He asks Dong-Man why he didn’t make a movie. Mi-Ran shows up.

Jin-Man runs into Eun-A on the street. She asks him about a good poem. She cannot understand the poems that the expect recommended. He teaches her that she should recite a poem so that she can understand it.

At the restaurant, Mi-Ran drinks with Jun-Hwan and Dong-Man. She confesses it to them that she didn’t like the script. Gyeong-Se wanted to explain it. So she went to see him. But she was played. He got her to film the scene that she sawed off her arm many times. He said that she didn’t have soul. She thinks a person in her right mind wouldn’t saw her arm. She sawed it again and again. It’s as if she was sawing her real arm. She sawed until she lost half a life, the sun rose. She thought she lost an arm. The arm went numb.

She sawed her arm in her heart. The left arm didn’t listen to her since then. She was dedicated to act. But the movie “Second Sister Without A Hand” was called “Second Sister Without A Brain” online. She would be very angry as long as she saw weird movies. Because she knows it will show that she’s such an idiot if it’s filmed. She decides to write it, rather than lets a terrible script control her like a fool.

Dong-Man invites Mi-Ran to come to his class. She rejects it. Because she doesn’t want to study. Writing is the most boring thing in the world. She likes to open her heart to write and act. She tells him that he’s like a writer who can write scripts. Her arm moves when she hears his words. It’s like a dead who opens her eyes suddenly. He reveals Gyeong-Se’s nickname was The King of Licking Melons.

At the gallery, Sang-Jin reports it to Jung-Hui that her daughter changed her name. She realizes her daughter is Eun-A. He says that Eun-A is closer than he imagines. She works at Choi Film. He went to the company. But nobody knows she’s Jung-Hui’s daughter. He thinks Dong-Hyeon wouldn’t scold Eun-A if he knows Eun-A is Jung-Hui’s daughter. Eun-A isn’t sure who is her mother. He doesn’t think the girl intended to join Choi Film.

Jung-Hui is surprised that the man didn’t send Eun-A to college. The man passed away. Eun-A is living with her grandma. She remembers Eun-A’s grandma is gone. Sang-Jin reveals the man remarried. The grandma is the mother of the man’s second wife.

Sang-Jin and Jung-Hui walk out of the gallery. He thinks they should let Eun-A move out before the media finds out that she lives there. They need to let the girl cut ties with her grandma. He plans to call Eun-A immediately. But she stops him. Because she will contact her daughter on her own. She asks him about Mi-Ran. He reveals Mi-Ran is with Jun-Hwan. She asks him to tell Mi-Ran not to drink.

Mi-Ran walks out of the restaurant. She gets in the van. Jun-Hwan gives the script to her. She asks him and Dong-Man to gather when they’re free. Dong-Man is on the subway. He has an illusion that he wins the award.

The next day at Choi Film, Dong-Hyeon hears that Eun-A is going to work with Dong-Man. He scolds her for getting a job outside when she takes his salaries. She mentions many people want her to read their scripts. She thinks it’s not a job. He mentions Hye-Jin had raised the guy for ten years. But she gave up him. He persuades her not to accept someone else’s trash. He tells her that workplace isn’t a place to promote humanitarianism. She points out who will discover up-and-coming directors if she only works with big directors. He thinks she doesn’t have to do so. Because the wealthy will only focus on solid reputation masters. There’s no tragic genius or the overlooked master.

Eun-A receives a message from Jae-Yeong. He tells her that he cannot have her sign the script. He threatens her that he will go to her company and embarrass her. She wishes she has a brother. At the school, Dong-Man sees Jae-Yeong’s name on the script Eun-A revised. He finds out that Jae-Yeong’s script was written by Eun-A. But the guy didn’t have her sign it. He meets the guy on the street in the evening. He tries to give him a lesson. But Jae-Yeong tells Dong-Man that he’s not an incompetent person like him anymore.

Dong-Man sends a message to Eun-A. He thanks her. He reveals his watch is green because of her. Her watch is green as well. Gyeong-Se calls Yeong-Su. He confesses it to him that his first movie is Dong-Man’s story. They were roommates in the college. One day, Dong-Man was drunk to come back. He said that he gave the girl he loved a bottle opener. But it appeared on the senior’s fridge. He was angry. He said that he would pull the fridge down.

Gyeong-Se worries that Dong-Man will win if he debuts. But Yeong-Su tells Gyeong-Se that Dong-Man liked his first move very much. He comforts him that they would use someone else’s story. He thinks Dong-Man couldn’t make it even if Gyeong-Se told it to Dong-Man. The guy missed many stories. He doesn’t know how good his stories are. He has looked for new stories.

The next day at the base, Yeong-Su tells the members that the roles in their movies are Dong-Man. He knows everyone’s eyes will light up as long as Dong-Man speaks. He reminds them that Dong-Man gave them a lot of inspiration when the guy provoked them. But they want to kick the guy out. He doesn’t know they’re using him. But they still feel guilty. So they mock him. Yeong-Su claims that Dong-Man belongs to him. He disallows others to use Dong-Man’s stories. Gyeong-Se asks Eun-A to say something.

She doesn’t want Dong-Man to join the Eight Club. She wishes he will only look at her. She wants to have him all to herself as well. She will pay everything back to him then. Letting him realize that he’s so dazzling. Hye-Jin smiles. She walks out of the base. She calls Dong-Man. She asks him why he didn’t tell her that he had a girlfriend. She mentions what she told him that she would let him enter the base when he had a girlfriend. He says that he has a crush on the girl. He worries that Eun-A will find it out if she spreads the rumor. She tells him that the girl just guarded him in front of everyone.

At the wedding of Dong-Man’s cousin, Dong-Man’s uncle plans to draw Dong-Man down if the guy goes to the stage to sing. Mi-Ran shows up. She thanks Dong-Man for healing her arm. She sings a song for his cousin. He remembers he told Eun-A that he wanted to make a movie so that he wouldn’t think that he was good-for-nothing.
