Tenzin realizes that he should teach Korra airbending after he took her back from the prisoner in The Legend of Korra. But Korra isn’t a good airbender. She fails to learn airbending even if she tried to her best. She prefers to learn pro-bending from Bolin. She breaks the wind gates in the end. She and her teacher Tenzin have a conflict.

Tenzin and Korra

Tenzin Becomes Korra’s Airbending Teacher

Korra is taken to the Police Department Toph Beifong founded in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Lin Beifong informs Korra that she committed the crimes of vandalism and resisting arrest. Korra explains it to Lin that she witnessed the gangsters bringing trouble. But Lin thinks Korra should have call the police. Korra claims that she’s the Avatar. She begins to use the title “Avatar” to defend herself. Lin reminds Korra that it doesn’t mean she can bring trouble even if she’s the Avatar.

Korra claims that she’s protected by someone. She asks Lin to call the chief. Unfortunately, Lin is the chief. Korra is surprised that Lin is Toph Beifong’s daughter. She mentions Lin’s mother was a good friend of the Avatar. They saved the world together. Korra asks Lin if she actually wants to arrest her. Lin blames Korra for showing that she’s great after she sabotaged.

Tenzin shows up. He decides to bail Korra out in The Legend of Korra. He wants to scold her later. Lin isn’t happy after she saw Tenzin. She asks him to explain it to her why the Avatar is there. She thought he should have train the girl in the South Pole. He explains it to her that the case of the South Pole was delayed. He promises to send Korra back. He claims that he will be responsible for it if she drops the charges against Korra. She agrees to it and she thinks she cannot stop him. But she begs him to let Korra leave her city.

Korra leaves the prisoner. She asks Tenzin not to send her to the South Pole. She realizes why he cannot leave after she came there. Republic City is a mess. It’s not a peaceful city. She tells Tenzin that she knows Republic City needs him. But she thinks the city needs her as well. Tenzin has a headache because of the problems of the city. The troublemaker Korra came now. Although Tenzin doesn’t want to admit, he knows what Korra said is right when he looks at the statue of his father. The peace of the world is the duty of the Avatar. The problems of Republic City were left by his father the Avatar Aang. It’s a new era. Maybe he should let Korra face the problems.

Tenzin takes all night to think about it. He changes his mind. He tells Korra that he tried his best to let Republic City go to his father’s dream realm. But he thinks she was right that the place is a mess after his father left. He thought he should delay her training and achieve his father’s last wish fist. But Korra is the Avatar of Aang. Tenzin promises to teach Korra airbending there. He mentions Republic City needs the Avatar as well. Korra is very happy after knowing Tenzin changed his mind. Tenzin’s children are very as well. But Tenzin regrets when he promises it.

Korra Thinks The Training Is Boring

The media knows the Avatar came to Republic City. Korra is in the spotlight. The world expects the changes the new Avatar is going to bring. Korra is asked many questions by the reporters. She doesn’t know how to answer it. She gives a great speech. But she’s interested in everything after she came to the big city. She’s interested in the pro-bending most. Korra is very combative. She has wished to watch games since childhood. She actually wants to fight in the arena. She thinks it will be great if she can watch some games since she managed to come to Republic City. But Tenzin won’t agree to it.

Tenzin inherits the traditional thinking of Aang and Katara. He has thought the pro-bending is an insult to the traditional culture. It’s like the bender uses his bending art to be a clown on the stage. After all, Korra came to the place for training. She didn’t come to have fun. Tenzin asks Korra not to leave the Air Temple Island during her studies. She wants to cry. He summons some people of the White Lotus then. Republic City becomes a boring place like the base of the South Pole.

Korra wears the clothes of airbender. She’s ready for the airbending training. Although she masters the three bending arts, she’s not good at airbending. She cannot control airbending. It’s normal. All Avatars are the same. It’s hard for them to learn the bending that is the the opposite of his personality and traits. Aang had a hard time when he learned earthbending. The reckless Korra cannot learn to calm down.

Tenzin takes Korra to the training ground. There’s a maze that was built by some gates. The first step Korra needs to learn is to turn herself into a wind and run through the gates. Jinora shows it to Korra well. But Korra gets into the maze and she’s hit by the gates. She wonders why she couldn’t learn it since the kids learned it. She learns it the whole day. She’s in anger. She finds out that the members of the White Lotus are listening to the broadcasting of the pro-bending. She’s interested in it. She follows them and she listens to it as well. But Tenzin doesn’t allow her to listen to it. Korra is training all day. She cannot endure it. She thinks the training cannot help her master airbending. The funny Republic City is on the other side. But she cannot contact any message there. She thinks it’s not funny at all.

Korra Learns Earthbending from Bolin

Korra swims to the city in The Legend of Korra. She runs to arena of the pro-bending. The member of the Fire Ferrets Bolin sees her before she’s driven away. He takes her to the VIP auditorium secretly. He and his brother Mako are going to play the game. The rule of the pro-bending is three-on-three. They’re teamed up by earthbender, firebender and waterbender. The team can use firebending, earthbending and waterbending to attack. The rule is very simple that is taking the area. They will win as long as they push the rivals into the water. Mako wins after he defeated three players. But other members don’t like Mako because he was cold.

Korra witnesses the pro-bending in person. She sees a new world. She’s surprised that the bending arts could be used in such a way. She’s interested in the arts of the pro-benders. She wishes Bolin to teach it to her. But he thinks his earthbending arts cannot help a waterbender. She says that it’s fine because she’s a waterbender, an earthbender and a firebender. Bolin and Mako learn that Korra is the Avatar. Bolin thinks it’s very cool that he and the Avatar became friends. But Mako remains cold. Bolin is warm to teach Korra earthbending.

Korra accepts the training from Tenzin in the daytime. She goes to the pro-bending area for training in the evening. The technique of the pro-bending is improved. But Korra’s airbending gets worse and worse. She’s furious to break the wind gates. Tenzin scolds Korra. But she talks back that she cannot learn it. She thinks it’s not her problem. Because he’s a terrible teacher. Tenzin is devastated after he heard what Korra said. But he can do nothing because she’s the Avatar.
