At Dutton Ranch, Rip finds Wes’s body in Dutton Ranch episode 2. It flashes back. Eight days later after the fire, Rip is outside the inn. He walks to the room. He opens the door. He asks Carter to pack his stuff. Carter wants to know where they’re going. Rip doesn’t answer his son the question. He walks to Beth who’s feeding a cow milk. She reveals the cow is hungry.
Earn Another Day

Rip joins Beth in the trailer. He says that Walker told him about an opportunity in Texas. She asks him how much land? He says that five thousand acres, Black Angus, 175 head on it. They need to pay about every nickel they got. She thinks it’s cheaper than rebuilding a ranch. But she worries that if the place can give them the life they want. He believes that they can do it. He offers to go to take a ride. But she doesn’t want to stay in the inn. She mentions they gave the place all they got. But he points out that Montana will always be their home.
At the ranch, the ranch owner tells Rip and Beth that Jacksons haven been after the ranch for 20 years. But they will turn it into something soulless. She doesn’t want the ranch to be something she cannot recognize. Beth promises the ranch owner that they will keep it as it is. The ranch owner wishes their beef can help folks someday. That was Billy’s dying pride and joy. She believes that Rip will fulfill the prospect. She tells Carter that there’re four horses in the barn. She asks him to saddle them. She wants to take one final ride around her ranch before she loses it.
Rip leaves with Carter. He wants to help the kid. The ranch owner tells Beth that she heard her father’s reputation. Beth thinks nobody knew her father. But the ranch owner knows Beth’s father was a man. She thinks he’s like Billy. She tells Beth that the broken bits will someday create a beautiful mosaic for her. Beth tells the ranch owner Jeanie that it’s already beautiful. She understands stewardship. She and her husband will guard the ranch. Jeanie reveals there’s a guy named Azul Ramos. She wants to talk about the guy to Beth.
At the auction house, Beth and Rip drink while they’re going to make an offer. Beth sees Beulah. She introduces Beulah as a friend from the slaughterhouse to her husband. She thinks Beulah is like a grizzly in Gucci. Black Angus Bull is released. He weighs 1,900. Rip tells his wife that it’s their boy. He buys the bull with the price ten thousand five hundred dollars.
In the evening, Rob-Will and Joaquin are on the way to the place where Wes was buried. Rob-Will tells his brother that he will come back after three days. Joaquin goes against. Because the decision was made by Beulah. He stops his car after he was told that Wes was there.
The two men get off the car. Rob-Will guesses Joaquin thought about braining him with the shovel. He thinks it was his plan all along. He tells him that the work doesn’t suit him. Because he didn’t do it before. But he finds out that Wes is missing. He gets angry. Joaquin asks Rob-Will to leave tomorrow.
At Jackson Ranch, the guy asks Chet where is Wes. Chet doesn’t know. It promotes the guy to believe that Chet is the foreman. Chet tells the guy that Wes was drunk. He got a hooker. The guy wants to beat Tommy. Because he stands behind him. Joaquin enters the office. He tells Chet that Beulah is looking for him. Chet leaves the office. Joaquin tells Tommy that he’s in charge.
Outside the prison, the man is released. Rip asks the man to come to his car. He asks him if he knows how to cowboy. The man claims that he’s a cowboy. He was a drunk. He won’t touch a drop again. He needs a work. He’s good with horses. His name is Zachariah. Rip asks Zachariah if his God prevents him from from cowboying. Zachariah says that God loves cowboys. Rip laughs. He asks Zachariah to get in his car.
Beth sees the horse at the hospital. She asks Everett to help her get a slaughterhouse. She doesn’t want to work with Beulah. He realizes that she met the big role. He persuades her that Beulah is like an old whiskey. She’s an acquired taste. So he directed his friends elsewhere. The place is near San Antone. He thinks he should help her for selling the mare. She wants to set off right away. She’s not too proud for bribery or kidnapping.
At Jackson Ranch, Whitney throws a fit to Austin. She wants to see her husband Wes. Joaquin arrives. He has a seat with Whitney. He tells her that Wes hasn’t shown in days. But she thinks it’s not her husband’s style. He says that they hoped Wes got homesick with good reason. But she points out hat her husband only gets homesick for the bunkhouse. She needs to know the truth. He reveals the guy went to see a woman. But it’s just rumors. She doesn’t believe it. She thinks the kid changed Wes even if he’s not a perfect man. He enjoyed to be a father. So he wouldn’t abandon her and the child.
Rip and Zachariah are on the way to Dutton Ranch. Zachariah asks Rip to stop the car. He gets off the car. Rip worries that the man will go to Jackson Ranch. At Beulah’s house, Beulah asks Chet to guard the ranch with her. He says that he will do that. She reminds him that he was with Rob-Will that night. She guesses they understand each other. She lets him leave.
Beth and Everett are on the way to the slaughterhouse. The cows are in the trailer. He reminds her that she should control her speed. So the cows won’t feel uncomfortable. She points out that she’s going under 70. But he can tell that she’s not the slow lane type. He tries to give her the candy. But she rejects it. She notices that he was a Seawolf. He reveals he was a naval aviator for a helicopter attack squadron. He was young and looking for someone to save. She guesses he got medals. He says that a few. She suggests that he shouldn’t take off the hat. He reveals he only did it at the dinner table.
Rip and Zachariah arrive at Dutton Ranch. Zachariah figures it out that Rip bought Edwards Ranch. Rip tells the man that they did it. He reveals there’s a cot in the hay barn. Zachariah can sleep there. Zachariah goes to the barn. He runs into Azul. He gives him a hug. He thanks him. Azul teaches Zachariah to win the new boss’s heart.
Carter walks out of the school. Oreana Lynn is waiting for him in the car. She offers to go to rob a liquor store. But he says that he needs to complete the homework. She takes out a case of beer. She tells him that it will resolve all kind of problems. He gets in her car. She drives away.
At Jackson Ranch, Austin tries to bring a problem. Chet beats Austin. Everett and Beth arrive at the slaughterhouse. They see a kid Felipe. Everett tells Felipe that Beth doesn’t bite. The slaughter owner Claudio shows up. Beth mentions what Everett tells her that Claudio cuts the finest T-bone in the state. Claudio isn’t humble. He says that he does. She reveals she got six Angus outside. She couldn’t find a slaughterhouse. Her husband and she building a small outfit. Quality, family-run like him.
Felipe grabs the snack from Everett. He’s happy to run away. Claudio guesses his son will climb the walls tonight. He takes Beth to see his workshop. She asks him to complete it within two weeks. At Dutton Ranch, a cow tries to flee. Zachariah tames her. It promotes Azul to think that Zachariah is still a cowboy.
Oreana Lynn takes Carter to shoot. She hits the bottle. She worries that he’s a rookie. But he shoots two bottles. She gets angry. Because he tricked her. But she says that she likes that. They sit in the car. She guesses his father taught him to shoot. He denies it. He tells her that the cowboys did it. She thinks he’s mystery. He’s not handsome. But he’s charming. He dared to step up at the parking lot. His aim was incredibly precise. She asks him what else he hides behind them eyes.
She feels sorry for getting him involved at the rodeo. But he thinks he was lucky to take part in it. She reminds him that nobody’s gonna make it easy for him. He has got to do that himself. So he should take everything in stride. Don’t worry about what other people think. Just follow his heart. She laughs. She puts her leg on him.
Beulah is cooking at home. Joaquin reports to her that Rob-Will’s checked into rehab. He asks her if his father knows about it. She claims that the ranch is her dominion. He tells her that cleaning up Rob-Will’s mess is very difficult. The stuff walked off the Edwards Ranch. She orders him to go to find it. But he claims that it’s his brother’s fault. It’s not his business. He thinks he cannot contain it if his brother sets a fire one day. She points out that they wouldn’t get the problem if he didn’t lose the land. He says that Edwards never liked them. So they sold the land to the Montana couple. The late governor’s daughter. She reveals she met the woman. The woman came by the slaughterhouse. She wanted to kill and carve her cows. Beulah asks Joaquin to find out what the two know before it gets more complicated. He tells her that the new foreman she hired already put a hand in the hospital. She knows what he means is Austin. His arms and ribs were broken. She figures it out that the guy asked questions. Joaquin reveals Wes’s wife went to see the guy. She was asking questions as well. Beulah asks Joaquin to go to resolve the problem.
Whitney arrives at the police station. She tells the cop that she needs to file a missing person report. He asks her to have a seat. She yells at him that her husband is missing. Sheriff Wade takes care of Whitney. He takes her to his office. He reminds her that they need to follow the rules. They will take her information after it’s been 72 hours. She points out that it’s been 72 hours. She believes that someone at Jackson Ranch knows more than they’re saying. He claims that they cannot arrest a person without a reason. She reminds him that it’s a big case. She worries that she will be the next one. He takes on her case in the end.
Oreana Lynn drives Carter home. He wants to see her next time. He receives a message. She reminds him that she has a boyfriend. At Dutton Ranch, Zachariah tells Azul that his father was a good person. He reveals his father visited him when he was in the prison.
Oreana Lynn returns home. Beulah shows up with the food. She tells the girl that the dinner is ready. But Oreana Lynn says that she’s already eaten. She’s polite to thank Beulah. Beulah brings up that Oreana Lynn had quite night at the rodeo. Oreana Lynn laughs. She admits it to her grandma that she did it. Beulah mentions some steer wrestler put his hands on her granddaughter. It’s not a good thing for Beulah Jackson.
Beulah gets Oreana Lynn to sit down. Oreana Lynn pours herself a drink. Beulah tells Oreana Lynn that she sent her father off to rehab. Oreana Lynn heard it. Beulah thinks Rob-Will should face his demons. But Oreana Lynn points out that Beulah helped the guy create the demons. Beulah reminds Oreana Lynn that she’s right on her father’s heels. She won’t accept it. She won’t tolerate it. The family cannot survive another bad child. Oreana Lynn tells Beulah that she cannot survive as well. Just like she cannot survive her being anything other than perfect. Beulah tells Oreana Lynn that she has to be perfect if she wants to take over running the ranch. Oreana Lynn wishes she won’t do that. She doesn’t want to be like Beulah. Beulah orders Oreana Lynn to eat her dinner before it gets cold.
In the evening, Joaquin visits Whitney in the evening. She mistakes that he found her husband. He denies it. He gives her Wes’s last two weeks and he added Wes’s next two weeks. But she refuses to accept his money.
Carter has dinner with Rip at home. He tells him that he met a girl. But he doesn’t know how to get along with the girl. Rip teaches his son that he should listen. It’s the deal. She says something nice to him, he listens. She says something mean to him, he listens. And if he doesn’t know what she’s talking about, he listens. But Carter likes a girl who has a boyfriend.

Beth shows up. She realizes that the two men were talking about girl stuff. She tells Rip that someone is waiting for him at the bar. Carter wants to join his father. But Beth reminds Carter that he needs to go to school tomorrow.
Beth takes Rip to the bar. He introduces him to Everett. She walks away. Everett tells Rip that he agreed to kill the mare. But Beth went against it. He heard that Jeanie sold the ranch to them. He guesses he and Rip have more in common. Beth comes back. Everett walks to the stage to sing a song. Beth and Rip dance. Beth and Rip sleep at home. Rip carries Wes’s body away from home. He throws the body into a mine. Beth wakes up. She finds out that her husband is missing. She looks for him.
