Dutton Ranch: Episode 3 Recap

Beth wakes up in the morning in Dutton Ranch episode 3. She doesn’t see her husband in the bed. So she walks out of the bedroom. Rip is making coffee. She says good morning to him. He asks her if she wants coffee. She brings up that he wasn’t there when she woke up in the night. He explains it to her that he got up that early. He gives the coffee to her.

Dutton Ranch Episode 3

Beth tells Rip that she got to Dallas. She got a meeting at the Swexan. He asks her if she got time for a ride. She says always. She gives him a kiss. She goes to get dressed. Beth and Rip ride horses to drive the cows to the river. Beth thinks they did a good job. She points at their girl. She thinks the girl looks right at home. He volunteers to get the cows watered. He asks Beth to get them a deal. She promises him that she will do that. All she needs is one. He feels bad for the poor guy.

Zachariah walks out of the barn. Azul asks Zachariah if he’s ready to get back at it. Zachariah says that he cannot wait. Beth wears a pair of red heels to walk out of her room. Carter thinks she looks nice. She suggests that he should be dressed for school. He talks back that he’s dressed for school. She knows he doesn’t want to go to school. But if he keeps his head down, work hard, try to learn something. She reveals she’s going to go to Dallas. She wants to sell some beef. She asks him to go to change his shirt.

At the church, Beulah gives a speech for the dead sheriff Ellis Logan at the funeral. She meets Everett. He tells her that she almost made him like Ellis. She laughs. She says that she almost made herself like the guy as well. She tells him that she has missed him. He asks her to take care of herself. He walks away.

Beth goes to the slaughterhouse. But the kid blocks her way. She has to throw a bag of snacks to him. She tells him that he got a real problem. The slaughterhouse owner shows up with the beef. He shows her the beef. She tells him that he’s a talent. He asks her if she got her cooler. She forgot to take a cooler. He volunteers to give one to her. He says that the business is still hard. Last years, they serviced nine ranches. Three gave up. Three were sold off by the acre, and three were bought by Big Beef. She promises him that she will take care of his business as long as he takes care of her business. He gives the cooler to her. She likes the sticker on the cooler. He says that it’s the kid Felipe’s sticker. He asks her not to remove it.

Beulah runs into Sheriff Wade outside the police station. He asks her for a talk. She feels like it’s coming up a cloud. But he says that there’s no rain in the forecast. He brings up that Wes Ayers goes missing. His wife’s mother is raising all kind of hell, and telling everybody who will listen, “10-Petal had a hand in it.” Beulah asks Wade if he listened. He says that it’s his job to listen. He asks her to get a handle on her bunkhouse. She says that she did it. She blames him for not telling her about Oreana Lynn at the rodeo. He explains it to her that he thought it was a small thing. She reminds him that she gave him the election contribution. She brings up that Ellis was so grateful. Because he knew it. She asks Wade to learn faster.

Carter arrives at the cafe. Oreana Lynn is waiting for him. She reveals she and Hoyt had another fight. Hoyt slept with another girl. Oreana Lynn called him out on it, and he dropped her at the cafe. She tells Carter that she got Hoyt’s lying this time. She dropped an AirTag on the guy’s truck. He’s at Nicole’s. Carter doesn’t understand why she dates someone she hates so much. She asks him to save her instead.

Beth arrives at the hotel. She sees the boss refusing to pay the chef Paula tip-outs. She walks into the kitchen. She puts the beef on the table. She tells Paula that she will double last night’s shortfall, if she adds some perfectly-grilled rib eye to the family meal. She says 1,500 dollars. Medium rare. Paula thinks it’s the only choice.

At Dutton Ranch, Rip shoots the bull. Everett checks the bull. He thinks Rip is right that it’s foot-and-mouth. It will burn through his whole herd if he doesn’t act quick. Rip brings up that there hasn’t been a case of FMD in decades. Everett reveals they got anti-vaxxers running wild. Animals shipping all over. Mexico’s 70 miles south, and that screwworm infestation shut down live cattle imports for months, hurt a lot of pocketbooks. Borders don’t care about critters or desperate ranchers. All it takes is one.

At the hotel, Beth serves the hotel owner the beef. She tells him that hundred and forty years. That’s how long her family’s been raising cattle. She introduces herself to him. He shakes hands with her. He remember the Yellowstone was a cow-calf operation. She reveals she and her husband moved to Texas, and they’re raising beef now out of Rio Paloma. He claims that he has an exhausting excess of eager ranchers all singing the same ranch-to-table song. But she says that it’s not her tune. She has the crown jewel, Giles. Impeccable genetics, certified Black Angus, refined over decades in the Winter garden. He realizes that she bought Bill Edwards’ ranch. She says that she’s going to bring her next one to Nick and Sam’s in about a minute. He knows the myth of the cattle’s floated around Texas for years. He asks her how she got it. She reminds him that it’s fifty seconds. It’s getting cold.

At Dutton Ranch, Everett tells Rip that he will mitigate it. They don’t have to cause a panic. But if the thing breaks bad. Rip understands it. Everett recognizes Zachariah. He asks Rip if he trusts the guy. Rip reminds Everett that he’s trusting him.

Carter and Oreana Lynn arrive at Nicole’s house. Oreana Lynn knows her boyfriend is in the house. Carter notices the stickers on the truck. He climbs into the truck. He pees the stickers. She laughs. She tells herself that he might be a keeper. She gets off her car with a flashlight. She hits the truck taillights. Hoyt runs out of his house with a gun. He chases Carter and Oreana Lynn. The two get in the car. They flee.

Beulah goes to the hospital to see Austin. She hands over the present to him. She wishes he will feel comfortable. She says that she has spoken with Chet. The guy will apologize. Austin needs to accept it. But Austin prefers to kill Chet. But she doesn’t think it will help. She tells him that his bills will be paid. But he doesn’t want to take her money. He wants to do his job like before. But she thinks it won’t be easy. Because she can make it a lot harder for everyone. She wants to talk about it after he recovers. She will take him home. He agrees. She thinks he’s a good cowboy.

Beulah leaves the hospital. She’s in a car. She gets a call from someone. He heard that she got a new foreman. He reminds her that they need to carry a lot of cattle this month. He doesn’t expect any surprises. She expects him to let her run her ranch as she sees fit. She calls Joaquin. She asks him for the address of Whitney.

A woman Anna drives to Dutton Ranch. She gets off her car. She points her gun at Zachariah. Everett asks Anna to put the gun down. But Zachariah is ready for it. He gets on his knees to Anna. Rip shows up. He asks Azul to drop the rifle. He tells Anna that it’s his ranch. He asks her to drop her gun as well. But she wants Zachariah to pay. He wants to know what the guy did. Zachariah says that it’s his retribution. Rip asks the guy to shut mouth.

Anna cries to tell Rip that Zachariah killed her baby. He understands her feelings. He’s told that her daughter’s name was Theresa. He asks her if she thinks Theresa would find peach there. He promises her that she won’t. But Zachariah can do that. Anna hands over her gun to Rip in the end. She cries in Everett’s arms. Rip walks to Zachariah. He wishes his prayers aren’t for show. Otherwise he will kill him.

At the hotel, the hotel owner is glad Beth came to him. But the competition is fierce, even if her beef is good. Most of these Texas outfits, they have a significant lead. She needs to deal with Frontier Hospitality Group. They supply nearly every high-end hotel and restaurant in Texas. He will place the call. But Zane Nash can be difficult. He says that she handles difficult.

Oreana Lynn and Carter are very happy after they got rid of Hoyt. But the police car is chasing them. She asks him not to stop the car. But he stops the car. Wade gets off his police car. He tells Oreana Lynn that he doesn’t find her antics exciting. He has got her for disturbing the peace. But she points out that Hoyt was waving the gun around. He threatens her that the weight of his badge will bury her. He tells Carter that he wants to be nice to him. He asks him not to let him change his mind. He orders him to take Oreana Lynn home.

In the evening, Beulah visits Whitney. But Whitney is gone. Beulah thinks it’s a problem. At Dutton Ranch, Rip goes camping with his people. Everett asks Zachariah if he’s fine. Zachariah says that he still prays for salvation through the Lord’s judgement. Everett doesn’t know the Lord’s plans as well. Rip wants to know the story of Theresa. Zachariah reveals he and Theresa were in love. They kept the secret from her family, from Anna. They had a fight. He was drunk. He was blinded by hurt. He tried to run away. Threw his truck in reverse. Azul tells Zachariah that it was an accident. But Zachariah still cannot forgive himself. Everybody thought he was the devil. He thought he was the devil as well until he found the Lord.

Everett says that everybody took Theresa’s death hard. Zachariah took the brunt of it. Zachariah thinks he deserves it. Azul disagrees. He mentions his father used to say he cannot ask for forgiveness. All he can do is give it. Even to himself.

At the hotel, Joaquin joins Beth. He mentions what she did with Giles earlier. She notices that he has three cell phones. She guesses one for the wife, one for the girlfriend, one for the boyfriend. He laughs. He tells her that it’s all for business. She thinks he has a lot of business. He says that he represents the 10-Petal Ranch. She realizes that his business is to follow her there. He claims that he’s just friendly competition. But she points out that there’s no friendly competition in the world. He tries to shake hands with her. But she rejects it. Because he’s not a cattleman. He says that he’s more of a problem solver.

He reveals Jacksons raised him like family. She realizes what he means is Beulah. She thinks he’s very lucky. He says that his parents never had the means or the chance to raise him. Some say family and business don’t mix, but sometimes, that’s all they have. It reminds her of her father’s attorney. It’s not ideal. Joaquin wants to help Beth’s ranch. He tells her that Beulah mentioned her. She made an impression. She says goodbye to him.

Carter takes Oreana Lynn to his room. She sees the photo. She guesses it’s where he was before. She asks him if he wants to go back. He does but he cannot. She tells him that he can do anything he wants. It promotes him to think that she wants to go with him. She knows she’s nervous. She lies in the bed. She kisses him.

At Dutton Ranch, Everett tells Rip that he does what he can do. He thinks Zachariah is a good man. Zachariah has just done some terrible things. Rip thinks the guy is like them. He gets a call from Beth. She’s happy to tell him that she got it. But he asks her to come home. She mistakes that it’s Cart. But he says that he and the guy are fine. She drives home. She sees the dead bull.
