This is the recap of 2019 Chinese drama Joy of Life: Episode 5. Zi Jing is on knees and promises to give his life to Fan Xian if he can take the file for him from Jiancha institution. But Fan Xian rejects it. Zi Jing says that he wouldn’t be on knees if he had other ways, and he tells Fan Xian not to force him because he gave up his pride as a human.

Zi Jing is on knees and promises to give his life to Fan Xian if he can take the file for him from Jiancha institution. But Fan Xian rejects it. Zi Jing says that he wouldn’t be on knees if he had other ways, and he tells Fan Xian not to force him because he gave up his pride as a human.
Fan Xian asks Zi Jing to tell him the truth so that he will help him. Zi Jing reveals he beat the nobles as he bullied normal people. The master of those nobles is Bao Kun, and his dad is minister You Zhi.
Zi Jing says that the ministry of penalty wanted to arrest him, and his crime was assassination of officer. Fan Xian wonders how Zi Jing was conviction. Zi Jing says that the couple he saved became witnesses, and he was sentenced for being killed his family.
Zi Jing is in tears, and says that his wife was in pregnancy. He asked for death to keep his family’s life, but they said that they couldn’t be favouritism. Zi Jing says that he wanted to laugh but he couldn’t.
The people of Jiancha institution saved Zi Jing from the jail and took away all of the files. They promised to keep the lives of his families if Zi Jing joined them. Zi Jing thinks his grave grows grass if he doesn’t study martial arts. He says that he is alive but many people has been wronged to die.
Zi Jing says that he doesn’t dare to hate Bao Kun as he is so lucky to live. He says that he wanted to beat the couple to take his revenge, but he saw them giving money to the beggar. Zi Jing thinks they have no way when minister asked them to testify, and he learns that there isn’t white and black in the world.
Zi Jing adds that he wanted to take his wife and son to leave, and Fan Xian learns that Zi Jing used him to pretend to die. Zi Jing reveals that he returned home but his family disappeared. He has no way to look into it as he is a dead, and he can only trust Fan Xian.
Fan Xian learns the reason why Zi Jing wants to look for the file of Jiancha institution. Zi Jing promises to give his life to Fan Xian if he can find the trace of his family. Fan Xian doesn’t need Zi Jing’s life but he promises to help him. Because Zi Jing didn’t hurt the couple.
Ling Er rides through the street with the guy who takes the garlics, and they arrive at the house. Wan Er drinks the medicine the maid gives her, and she hears that Ling Er wants to treat her chicken legs.
Wan Er goes out and blames Ling Er for letting everyone know it. But Ling Er tells Wan Er that she doesn’t need to keep the secret. She reveals that she ran into a cook who can make the flavor of meat with vegetarian diet, so she took him back.
Ling Er notes that Wan Er vomits blood again, and asks if she caught a cold at the temple. Wan Er says that she is fine, and asks if she will be used to it when she keeps vomiting. Ling Er doesn’t think so, and wants to get a doctor to cure Wan Er.
But Wan Er doesn’t want to get her fiance involved when she will die anytime. Ling Er thinks Wan Er doesn’t have to badmouth herself for an illegitimate son. But Wan Er thinks she and Fan Xian have no difference when she is an illegitimate daughter.
Ling Er reminds Wan Er that she is princess. But Wan Er thinks she cannot decide to marry the person she has feelings even if she is princess. She wants to marry the person she likes. Ling Er agrees to it, and she wants to look for a person she likes as well.
Ling Er takes Wan Er’s hand and intends to ask Fan Xian to ask Emperor Qing to cancel the marriage. The maid joins them as she worries that Wan Er will catch a cold.
Fan Xian invites Si Zhe to eat orange in the carriage. But Si Zhe wants to get off. The thug stops the carriage and asks Fan Xian to get off. Zi Jing beats the thug, and the thug climbs to Si Zhe and asks him for help. But Si Zhe kicks the thug away and tells people that he and Fan Xian are good brothers.
Mr. Hou asks Emperor Qing if they need to protect Fan Xian when Crown Prince and Second Prince sent people to follow him. Because Fan Xian is the talented person Emperor Qing chose. Emperor asks Mr. Hou how many fishes in the pond, but Mr. Hou doesn’t know.
Emperor throws the baits into the pond, and the fishes appear. Mr. Hou learns that Fan Xian is the bait and the fishes are the people.
Ruo Ruo, Fan Xian and Si Zhe arrive at the restaurant, and Ruo Ruo tells Fan Xian the restaurant is good. But Si Zhe thinks it’s expensive. Ruo Ruo points out that Si Zhe wanted to treat. The woman sells the book to Fan Xian, and Fan Xian finds out that the book is “Red Tower”. Fan Xian wants to buy all of the books the woman has, and she takes him away.
Si Zhe thinks Fan Xian isn’t dignity, but Ruo Ruo reveals the book was written by Fan Xian. The woman takes Fan Xian to see her boss, and Fan Xian sees many people taking books from him. Fan Xian gives the money to the woman, and she leaves. The man’s face is covered by the fan, and Fan Xian asks if the books belong to him.
Fan Xian recognizes Qi Nian and thinks he wants to be monopoly of cultural industry. Qi Nian doesn’t get Fan Xian’s point, and promises to compensate 10 times. But he flies over the rooftop to flee after he tricked Fan Xian to look behind. Fan Xian takes the book Qi Nian left.
The maid asks the servant and reports to Wan Er that Fan Xian went to restaurant. Ling Er asks Wan Er to tell her intent to Ru Yu. But Wan Er wants to look at Fan Xian’s eyes and tells him what she wants to say. Ling Er promises to help Wan Er.
Fan Xian returns and tells Zi Jing that the person who sold book was Qi Nian. Ruo Ruo feels guilty, but Fan Xian comforts her that the book should be read by people. Si Zhe asks Fan Xian if he is the author of the book. Fan Xian denies and reveals he just copied it. Si Zhe wants to do the book business with Fan Xian, and Fan Xian is surprised by Si Zhe’s calculating skill.
The servants drive the women who sell book away, and they take the book. Bao Kun gets off the carriage and he steps on the book. Si Zhe gets angry and goes downstairs. Fan Xian learns that Bao Kun is the follower of Crown Prince, and thinks he targets him as he looked at him. But Fan Xian wonders why Si Zhe was furious as he doesn’t have any revenge with Bao Kun.
Si Zhe picks up the book and tells Bao Kun that the book is good as many people like to read it. Bao Kun gets angry, and Zong Wei joins Bao Kun. Bao Kun thinks Si Zhe is superficial because his father Fan Jian manages money. Si Zhe wants to beat Bao Kun because he doesn’t respect his dad. But the bodyguard of Bao Kun takes Si Zhe’s fist.
Zi Jing wants to help Si Zhe, but Fan Xian stops him as he worries that the bodyguard recognizes him. Bao Kun asks Si Zhe to kowtow and apologize. But Si Zhe rejects it. So the bodyguard pushes Si Zhe. Fan Xian catches Si Zhe, and Bao Kun tells people that Fan Xian is the illegitimate child.
But Fan Xian thinks Bao Kun worship him as he just arrived. Fan Xian thinks Si Zhe’s arm would be broken if he didn’t help his brother. Bao Kun agrees to it and gets the bodyguard to beat Fan Xian. But Fan Xian hits the bodyguard away with just one fist.
Fan Xian blames Bao Kun Zong Wei for badmouthing the book when they didn’t read it. Prince Jing shows up and invites them to take part in his poetry meeting. Fan Xian thinks Prince Jing wants to pick up girls when he knows that many girls will take part in.
In the carriage, Ruo Ruo doesn’t expect that Fan Xian would take part in the poetry meeting. Fan Xian thinks Prince Jing waited for him. But Si Zhe doesn’t believe that Prince Jing would follow Fan Xian from home to the restaurant. Fan Xian adds that Bao Kun is the follower of Crown Prince, and Crown Prince wants to see him. Si Zhe doesn’t thinks Fan Xian is so hot.
Prince Jing gives the book to Second Prince, and Second Prince is interested in Fan Xian. Prince Jing offers to arrange Fan Xian to see Second Prince. But Second Prince wants to wait for some time.
Fan Xian asks Si Zhe why he rushed to the downstairs, and Si Zhe thought Bao Kun ended his road for gaining money when he wanted to forbid the book. Because Si Zhe is going to sell book with Fan Xian. Fan Xian asks Si Zhe why he wants to earn money, and Si Zhe says that he just likes to earn money.
Fan Xian asks Si Zhe not to get people to know that he leaves the carriage, and threatens not to allow him to sell the book. But Si Zhe thinks Ruo Ruo won’t help Fan Xian as she doesn’t like to lie. But Ruo Ruo tells Fan Xian to leave, and promises to control Si Zhe’s mouth. Si Zhe thinks Ruo Ruo treats Fan Xian different than him.
Fan Xian gets off the carriage and tells Si Zhe to think about place of the book store. Si Zhe smirks and thinks he is going to be rich. Ruo Ruo reminds Si Zhe not to get people to spot him.
Si Zhe is thinking about how to sell the book. But the carriage stops. Zi Jing tells Ruo Ruo that there is a traffic jam. So she heads out. Ling Er spots Ruo Ruo from another carriage, and Ruo Ruo suspects that someone else is with Ling Er in the carriage.
