The client visits Nolnoa’s shop in Witch Hat Atelier episode 9. She wants to buy the stuff that she bought last time. She wants to take the ink she booked a few days ago. Her wand is broken. She asks him to fix it for her. Tartah stands on the stairs. He remembers the light was very bright. But his grandpa said that he didn’t see it. It’s too weird. He guesses Qifrey might know something.
A Nightmare Stained in Black
On the hillside, Qifrey is hit by the apple tree. Coco feels sorry. He thinks she drew the magic circle too large if she wanted to use the wind magic to pick apple. She explains it to him that she wanted to draw it small. But the apples only swayed. So she wanted to enhance it. Tetia suggests that Coco should turn the arrow a bit. Letting the apple turn around.
Qifrey thinks it’s a good idea. As long as it changes the arrow with a goal, magic can be used in various places. Tetia says that she needs to find the reason if she fails. Success also requires thinking about how she made it. The purpose of repeated practice is to look for shortcomings, and give it a try. She asks her master if it’s very important to put some effort into studying. He agrees with what she said. He thinks Tetia master did a good job in teaching. She’s excited to ask him to praise her more.
Agott shows up. She’s surprised that Tetia has time to take care of others. Since she knows she’s not outstanding enough, she should practice more. Tetia and Coco run to Agott. Tetia asks Agott to demonstrate so that they can practice. Qifrey watches his disciples have fun. He laughs.
Coco eats apple with Brushbuddy. She asks her seniors if there’re other trials except the trial in the Dadah Range. Richeh reveals there’re five clueless trials. She complains that she can draw magic without passing the trials. Qifrey explains that the purpose of the trial is to test and get to know herself. As for whether it’s meaningful, it depends on what she thinks. If she doesn’t want to challenge in her heart, it’s hard to enough no matter what it is.
There was a witch, having the same trouble. Magic exists to bring happiness to people. If it lets the disciples feel pain, it puts the cart before the horse. So the three wise changed the trials into the outside adventures that everyone wants to take part in.
Someone who passes the last trial can take on disciples. Qifrey tells his disciples not to think about it before they graduate. But Tetia often thinks about the things after she graduates. She wants to travel to faraway places. Using magic to help all kinds of people. Listening to people in the world say thanks. She wants to grow up quickly so that she can design a hat with two horns. Coco is surprised that Tetia’s hairstyle has the meaning. Qifrey tells her that she can choose hat on her own after she holds her own.
Richeh dislikes trials. It’s a real pain in the neck. She doesn’t wants to listen to someone else’s orders. She doesn’t want to draw the magic that she dislikes. Agott points out that the magic Richeh can use won’t increase if she only draws the magic she likes. Richeh doesn’t care for it. If she can only hold on herself when she does the things she doesn’t want to do, she prefers to maintain the status quo. She returns to the atelier.
Agott claims that she won’t make no headway. She has many things she cannot do. She wants to pass all the trials as soon as possible. One day, she will be Librarian of The Tower of Books. Tetia whispers in Coco’s ear that Agott’s ancestors are the disciples who keep the three wise’s memories. They served as Librarian for generations.
Coco is surprised that Agott’s goal is The Tower of Books as well. She looks at the girl. Tetia smiles to ask Coco what kind of witch she wants to be. Coco says that her perspective is different from everyone else’s. She had the task that she must do. She needs to increase the magic that she can use. She decides to draw the wind magic again. Qifrey tells Coco in his heart that the magic she masters won’t betray her.
Coco opens her eyes. She’s in a dark space. She’s surprised that nobody is there. Her mother shows up with a lamp. Coco runs into her mother’s arms. She apologizes to her. She tells her that she didn’t intend to hurt her. She couldn’t give up magic. Her mother turns into a crystal monster. She pushes Coco away. She mentions what she told her that ordinary people couldn’t make it. She’s an uninformed person who knows nothing. It was all her fault. She turned her mother into a stone. She dragged Agott and other girls into the crisis.
Agott asks Coco if she’s going to say that she didn’t intend to do that. The grass balls chase Coco. Coco runs away. But she falls into the ink bottle. Iguin tells her that it turns out like this because she craved magic. He pushes her away with the ink bottle. The ink bottle is broken.
Coco wakes up from the nightmare. Brushbuddy runs to her to comfort her. Qifrey sees Agott. He’s surprised that she doesn’t sleep. She says that she doesn’t want to waste her time. He asks her not to put on a brave face. She promises him that she will go to sleep. She returns to her room. She sees Coco.
Coco draws on a paper. She tells herself that she can save her mother. But she doesn’t know when it’s enough. Qifrey tries to look into the Gemini bottle to find out where Brimmed Caps hide. But he’s hurt by the water magic. Iguin shows up. He breaks the bottle. Qifrey tries to stop Iguin from leaving. But the Brimmed Cap disappears. Qifrey swears he won’t give up. He wants to take back the things that were taken away. Iguin returns to the beach. He complains that he failed.
The next day, Coco and her people are having breakfast. Agott persuades Coco to take a break. She knows she practiced until midnight. Coco explains it to Agott that she did it because it went smoothly at the time. Tetia understands how Coco feels. But she shouldn’t try too hard. Richeh tells Coco that Excellent Magic comes from Quality Sleep. Tetia mentions what Olruggio said that the body would start to have problems if she didn’t sleep well when she was a kid.
She volunteers to make sleeping tea for Coco. Qifrey takes over the pot from Tetia. He tries to make the tea. But he’s burned by the pot. The pot falls on the floor. It’s broken. She asks him if he’s fine. He says yes. He knows the numbness hasn’t gone away. He apologizes to his disciples for breaking the last tea. He decides to go to pick tea leaves. He asks them to to continue to practice the basic magic textbook.
Tetia thinks the master was weird after he left. Richeh figures it out that the master did it because he didn’t have a good sleeping. Coco takes Agott to their room. She gives her the flying boots. She apologizes to her for giving it to her so late. She spent some time because she wanted to draw it well. Agott realizes that Coco drew it last night. Coco is shy to tell her roommate that she didn’t draw as well as they did. She asks her to give it a try. She will draw it again if the boots aren’t good.
But Agott asks Coco about her plan. She mentions she forced her to take part in the trial. But she didn’t report her. She didn’t blame her, and she fixed the boots. She doesn’t understand her intention. Coco admits it to Agott that she was hard. The trial was terrifying. She was alone and she felt uneasy. Although she could do nothing and wait there, when she stood at the foot of the mountain, she decided to challenge herself. She told herself that she could do it. She wanted to prove herself. She overcame challenges with her own magic. She caught the hope in the end.
Agott realizes that the only one who cannot get it out of the head has been her. Coco falls asleep in her bed. Qifrey eats the herb in the garden. His arm recovers. He believes that those kids discovered it since they’re smart. He decides to conceal it until the very end. He asks Brushbuddy to keep the secret for him.
Agott flies to Qifrey. They roll down the hill. He tells her that her speed was too fast. She reveals she was fast because the arrow was drawn too long. It made the magic circle crooked. He wants to see the magic circle. But she tells him that something happened to Coco.

Coco is sick. Qifrey decides to take her to the hospital in Kalhn. He asks others to talk to Olruggio if anyone has a business. Qifrey and Coco are on the way to Kalhn. He worries about her. In Kalhn, Tartah has fun with the kids in the alley. He decides to leave. Because he needs to go to take the boat. His friend realizes that his home is on the island. He thinks he should fly home since he comes from a witch family. Tartah says that he needs to follow the rules. He says goodbye to the two boys.
Tartah runs on the street. He complains that the two know nothing. They only made snide remarks. He runs into Qifrey and Coco. Qifrey is anxious to ask the boy where is the hospital. The boy takes Qifrey to the hospital. Qifrey hands over Coco to the doctor. He thanks Tartah for helping him. He praises him. He thinks he had a keen eye for detail. He looked at things very closely. Tartah wants to ask Qifrey something.
