These are the Recap & Review for Twinkling Watermelon: Episode 5. Eun-Gyeol drowns when his parents play with Eun-Ho. His father tells him that he will choose him when he asks his father to make a choice between him and Eun-Ho. Because Eun-Gyeol is the voice of family that can connect to the world.
Twinkling Watermelon: Episode 5 Recap & Review
Note: From here on out there are specific plot spoilers for Twinkling Watermelon: Episode 5.
Eun-Gyeol thinks his father told a liar to him because he cannot hear his voice. He thinks he’s going to die. But his father jumps into the sea to save him. He sees the scar on his father’s shoulder. Eun-Gyeol wakes up. He sees the red string that connects to his mother.
Eun-Gyeol unties the red string. He walks out of the tent and finds his father. His father thinks he was scared. He apologizes to him. He wonders how did he know he was drowning since he couldn’t hear any sound. His father reveals he has the third eye. He shows his scar to him.
Yi-Chan tries to grab the balloon for the kid. But the car rushes to him. Eun-Gyeol saves Yi-Chan. He worries that the accident took away his hearing. He takes a look at his shoulder. Yi-Chan stops Eun-Gyeol. He thinks he’s a pervert.
Eun-Gyeol doesn’t find any scar from Yi-Chan’s shoulder. He thinks the accident doesn’t happen. He believes that he can stop Yi-Chan’s fate if he stops the accident. He tells him for focus on him for one year. Yi-Chan mentions what he told Eun-Gyeol that he likes Se-Kyung.
But Eun-Gyeol tells Yi-Chan not to have feelings for Se-Kyung. Yi-Chan yells at Eun-Gyeol that he likes women. He runs away. Eun-Gyeol chases Yi-Chan. The two return home. They sleep in same bed. Eun-Gyeol promises to do band for Yi-Chan. But he asks him to stay where he can see. Yi-Chan hits Eun-Gyeol. He goes to see his grandma.
Ji-Hwan is going to see Se-Kyung off at the airport. He asks her not to date other guys because he wishes to be her boyfriend. Sang-A asks Se-Kyung if she will come back during school breaks. Se-Kyung doesn’t intend to return to Korea.
Se-Kyung’s mother reminds Se-Kyung that they need to get into the airport. She thanks Se-Kyung’s friends for coming to save goodbye. She leaves with Se-Kyung. But Se-Kyung stops. She looks around the airport. She waves at Ji-Hwan and Sang-A when the two wave at her. She leaves. The man Choi Hyun shows up.
Ma-Joo reminds Yi-Chan that their band will disband if they don’t have enough members. He wonders why he rejected Eun-Gyeol. Yi-Chan explains to Ma-Joo that he just didn’t give Eun-Gyeol an answer. Ma-Joo tells Yi-Chan to let Eun-Gyeol join them.
But Yi-Chan doesn’t wish to get burned by Eun-Gyeol’s eyes. He reveals Eun-Gyeol had feelings for him when the guy looked at him. Ma-Joo tells Yi-Chan to look at Eun-Gyeol when the guy looks at him. He doesn’t want to keep a crazy guy like Eun-Gyeol in his band.
The boys try to run away. Ma-Joo stops one of the boys. He asks him what happened. The boy drinks Yi-Chan’s milk. He reveals Hyun-Yool is going to have a fight with someone. Ma-Joo and Yi-Chan arrive at the hall when Hyun-Yool is going to have a fight with Eun-Gyeol.
Ma-Joo finds out that Eun-Gyeol is trying to make a band for Yi-Chan. He wonders how did Eun-Gyeol make Hyun-Yool work hard. It flashes back. Hyun-Yool returns to the band after the band disbanded. Eun-Gyeol invites Hyun-Yool to join the band again. But Hyun-Yool rejects it. He tries to leave. But Eun-Gyeol tells Hyun-Yool that he came to take Dong-Jin’s spot. But Hyun-Yool thinks Eun-Gyeol cannot defeat him. Eun-Gyeol tells Hyun-Yool to have a battle with him.
Eun-Gyeol defeats Hyun-Yool from the guitar battle. Hyun-Yool praises Eun-Gyeol. Yi-Chan is happy to hug Eun-Gyeol. He goes to see the teacher. He places the application form of his band on the desk. The teacher mentions what he told Yi-Chan that he needs at least five members.
Yi-Chan shows the names of his members to the teacher. The teacher learns that Yi-Chan’s club has six members. Yi-Chan asks the teacher to sign the paper. Yi-Chan, Eun-Gyeol and Ma-Joo arrive at the club. Hyun-Yool and other members are waiting for them.
Yi-Chan Begins to Study for Se-Kyung
Ma-Joo tells Yi-Chan and Eun-Gyeol to glare at the members in Twinkling Watermelon Episode 5. But Hyun-Yool greets Yi-Chan. He calls him chief. Si-Guk is furious to grab Hyun-Yool’s collar. He blames him for getting them involved. But Se-Bum points out that Yi-Chan brought someone who’s better than Dong-Jin. But he doesn’t want him to be the front man. Yi-Chan wonders how the members will accept him as the front man.
Yi-Chan sings in a music room. He passes out. Eun-Gyeol worries about Yi-Chan. He tries to wake him up. Ma-Joo asks Yi-Chan if he’s going to give up on the front man. Yi-Chan laughs. He thinks he doesn’t have to sing in front of the members.
Ma-Joo points out that Yi-Chan promised the members. He tells him to practice it. But Yi-Chan thinks it’s impossible to achieve the goal. He intends to make a son. But Ma-Joo worries that Yi-Chan’s son will take after him.
Eun-Gyeol offers to hold an audition to pick up their own bandmates. Yi-Chan agrees to Eun-Gyeol’s plan. Ma-Joo complains to the two the the festival is in next month. Yi-Chan tells Ma-Joo that he’s going to be reborn. He asks him not to stop him.
Eun-Gyeol stops Yi-Chan when he tries to jump off the window. He promises to teach everything to him. He agrees to teach guitar to him. But he asks him to go to college. He tells him that it’s his grandma’s wish. It flashes back. Yang-Hee hands over the pocket money to Eun-Gyeol. She tells him that it’s an offer of her dream. She mentions Yi-Chan gave up on studying for her. She cries to tell him that she wishes to see Yi-Chan wearing a graduation cap.
Yi-Chan thinks he cannot go to college even if he accepts it. Eun-Gyeol tells Yi-Chan that he’s going to help him get into college. Yi-Chan thinks Eun-Gyeol helped him because he didn’t want to be kicked out. Eun-Gyeol denies it. He reveals Yi-Chan saved his life many times.
Eun-Gyeol asks Yi-Chan to open the book. He puts his hand on his hand. He tells him that it’s their first day. Yi-Chan is scared to ask his grandma to help him. Yang-Hee watches Yi-Chan study with Eun-Gyeol. She cries. She thinks her grandson will have a good future.
Chung-A reads Se-Kyung’s letter. Se-Kyung tells Chung-A that she’s in New York. She wonders who will feel sad for her leaving. Chung-A goes to the bookstore. She remembers Yi-Chan protects her when the books fall to her head. Eun-Gyeol shows up. Chung-A ignores him. She leaves the bookstore.
Eun-Gyeol buys some books for Yi-Chan. He leaves the bookstore and runs into Ma-Joo. Ma-Joo reveals they’re going to give the closing performance. They get on the bus. They hear the girl talking about Yi-Chan let the talented guitarist join his band. They’re very happy. But they hear the bad news that Se-Kyung left Korea.
Ma-Joo thinks Yi-Chan won’t do the band if he knows Se-Kyung left Korea. He decides not to let Yi-Chan know it. Eun-Gyeol agrees to his plan. They get into Yi-Chan’s room. Yi-Chan tells his grandma not to prepare noodles for Ma-Joo after knowing Ma-Joo wants to eat noodles.
Yi-Chan tells Eun-Gyeol that he has completed his homework. Eun-Gyeol takes a look at the homework. He praises Yi-Chan. But Yi-Chan asks for the prize. Eun-Gyeol strokes Yi-Chan’s hair. Yi-Chan is furious to tell Eun-Gyeol that he’s not a dog. He asks him to teach him how to play guitar.
Yang-Hee gives a lot of noodles to Eun-Gyeol. She thanks him for teaching Yi-Chan. Yi-Chan reminds Yang-Hee that he’s her grandson. Bal-San wonders if Se-Kyung will come to the festival. Yi-Chan believes that his goddess will come if he’s well-prepared.
Bal-San intends to take his friends to the festival because he hears the girl is pretty. It makes Yi-Chan miss Se-Kyung. He plans to go to see her. But Eun-Gyeol and Ma-Joo are against it. Ma-Joo reminds Yi-Chan that he needs to be a black horse to impress Se-Kyung.
Se-Kyung Comes Back
Yi-Chan agrees to what Ma-Joo said. Eun-Gyeol apologizes to Yi-Chan because he knows Se-Kyung won’t come back after she left. Se-Kyung returns to Korea. She smiles. She returns home. The man hands over the key to her. He wonders why she came back. She explains to him that she needs to take care of something urgent.
Se-Kyung walks into her house. She sees her family photo. She apologizes to her for not being her daughter. But she tells her that she doesn’t feel sorry at all. Eun-Gyeol has a bad feelings after the nightmare. He walks out of the house. He finds out that Yi-Chan is playing guitar.
Yi-Chan tells Eun-Gyeol that he practices guitar for being the front man. Eun-Gyeol tells Yi-Chan to practice singing. But Yi-Chan wants to keep the promise. Eun-Gyeol tells Yi-Chan to talk with guitar if he wants to play guitar well.
Yang-Hee finds out that Yi-Chan and Eun-Gyeol do same action when they eat. She thinks the two are brothers. She laughs to leave. Yi-Chan asks Eun-Gyeol to meet him at the ice cream store. He reveals he has gotten him a job. Eun-Gyeol promises to come to the ice cream store. He gives Yi-Chan five.
Yi-Chan goes to the school. But he’s told that Se-Kyung left Korea. Se-Kyung cuts her hair at home. She does a mess. Eun-Gyeol passes by the music store. He sees the guitars. Choi Hyun sees Eun-Gyeol. He lets him get into his store.
Eun-Gyeol reveals he wants to buy his father a guitar. But he sees Se-Kyung. She sells her dress to the girl. Eun-Gyeol shows up when Se-Kyung is counting the money. He wonders why she came back since she left Korea. She promises to answer the question to him if he packs her stuff and runs to the snack store.
The members hear the beautiful voice. They go to the band room. They find out that Yi-Chan is singing a sad song. Yi-Chan misses Se-Kyung when he sings. The members are moved by Yi-Chan’s singing. They choose him to be the front man.
Eun-Gyeol finds Se-Kyung at the snack store. He asks her to tell him why she returned to Korea. She reveals she did it because she took the flight back to Korea. She begins to leave. He follows her and blames her for leaving without a word. He mentions Yi-Chan studied hard to her.
Se-Kyung agrees to what Eun-Gyeol said. She buys him a cold drink. He thinks she shouldn’t give Yi-Chan the hope since she intended to leave Korea. She agrees to what he said. She decides to go to apologize to Yi-Chan. But he tells her not to show up in front of Yi-Chan.
Se-Kyung smiles after she sensed something. She tells Eun-Gyeol that she came back to die. She reveals her mother turned into a crazy man after she found out that her husband dated another woman. Se-Kyung asks Eun-Gyeol not to tell others that he saw her. She leaves the cafe.
Yi-Chan is lost to return to the ice cream store. He bumps Chung-A. He apologizes to her. He tells his boss that his goddess left. But the boss tells him that the girl who just left was the one dropping off the invitation for him.
Yi-Chan runs out of the ice cream store. He chases Chung-A and he stops her. He blames her for writing the fake latter to him. She asks her if she’s happy that she’s a loser to Se-Kyung. She’s scared to walk away. She doesn’t know the car is behind her.
Yi-Chan chases Chung-A. He drags her aside before the car hits her. He asks her if she’s a deaf. She’s furious to shake off his hand. He returns to the ice cream store. He complains to his boss that the girl ignored him. The boss reveals the girl cannot hear.
Chung-A cries when she’s at the telephone booth. Yi-Chan wipes the window. He finds out that it’s raining outside. He remembers he told Chung-A that she’s a deaf. He leaves the store with an umbrella. But he sees Se-Kyung. Eun-Gyeol walks in the rain. He remembers Se-Kyung told him that she found something interesting.
Eun-Gyeol remembers his father told him that he fell for his mother when he learned the sign language in the class. He realizes that his father won’t meet his mother if he stops the accident. He thinks he needs to find his mother. He passes by the telephone booth. He sees Chung-A. He holds the umbrella for her because he worries that she will catch a cold. He hands over the umbrella to her. He arrives at the ice cream store. He finds out that Yi-Chan is seeing Se-Kyung. Chung-A sees it as well when she follows Eun-Gyeol. Both think they’re late. Se-Kyung greets Yi-Chan.

Episode 5 of Twinkling Watermelon gives me a big surprise that Se-Kyung returns to Korea. It seems that she doesn’t want to be a good princess anymore after she found out that her father had another woman. She loses her faith to be a good daughter. But it’s not what Eun-Gyeol wants to see. He wishes his parents to meet up. Let’s see what will happen in episode 6.
